“It really is the only nice bar in town (halcyon next door has a nice bar too).”

Love the decor. The clientele was mostly young professional. The cocktail menu was extensive. Sevice was great bartenders where friendly an even though they had alot of people to service they where still very attentive. Heard food was great but didn't order so I'll update next visit.
I love Egans in Montclair! The beer and and liquor selection is endless. The food is consistently great every time I visit. The pizza is my favorite but they do offer delicious entree items. They have a dj on Saturdays and I would say that it is the best time to attend it you're looking for something to do on the weekends. The atmosphere is a classy irish pub! It's a beautiful environment with people of all ages. It is a very clicky place so I wouldn't advise you to go there looking to meet people if you're out of town. Go with friends or on date.
Came here to eat on a not so crowded Sunday afternoon. There was plenty of parking and seating available. If you go after 5 it becomes very packed here otherwise.
Maybe it was because it wasn't busy, but the food took a while to comeout. And to my surprise the wings that we ordered came out a good 15 minutes after our food did. We are already finished when they brought them out. I was certain that they have been forgotten. The wings were also extremely dry and overcooked.
Also the grilled cheese that my son ordered was so salty that he couldn't even eat it.
The beer that I normally order was flat and undrinkable. Our server has changed it for another and that was was good.
I was not impressed with food or the pace at this place. Our waitress however was very nice and accomodating, if it wasnt for her I would give this place 2 stars.
Came tonight for mom's birthday dinner, both my parents had been with cousins a couple of times, and this was my first time coming to this place. Usually I do not like bars, I find them entirely too loud and crowded, but this place is quite open and spacious, and there is an outdoor dining area. Getting seated once we walked in was confusing as it's not clear where the main entrance is or where you're supposed to go in. There's a parking lot round the back (behind Walnut Street) with an entrance, and that's where the host/hostess's tall desk is rather than at the Walnut Street front entrance. So, not knowing who was supposed to be guiding us to a table, we awkwardly kind of walked through the place with the help of a few clueless waitstaff to the hostess in the back of the restaurant from where we entered who sat us outside when we asked. Apart from the seating bumps in the road, the food was absolutely delicious, and service was good. Friendly waiter. I had red snapper for the first time, with some fragrant tasty South Asian rice. My mom's falafel was too spicy, she couldn't eat it. We also kind of filled up on delicious appetisers and just sat outside leisurely as it got dark out. An evening well-spent.
LOUD!!!!!!
Wanna grab a bunch of friends and go hang out a bar, this is the place to go. Young and vibrant crowd, they stay quite late also. We were there to meet up for dinner with a few good ol pals, and then seated, and all agreed we should have perched our buttons somewhere quieter.
Overall, its a nice spot in Montclair.
For a place like this to exist in this area is perfect. There a few places to park also which reduces your headache once you get in. Our crew got there a little late, seated by 930pm "–ish and they were generous and patient with us.
We ordered some of their best meals, sat for an hour or two, in the midst f great conversation and catching up, we nibbled and masticated on them well cooked streak, calamari, salad's and some good ol' ribs.
Food was great, our seating for 8 or so was just right, and the waiter was actually good. He worked with passion, we didn't feel bugged too many times, which is a great asset to any restaurant. Because, sometimes in the mainframe of flipping tables, they might end up loosing customers. We didn't feel rushed at all.
Why are we giving this place a 3 star? Well let's make it a confident 4 STAR!!
Cheers!!!!
This place is cute. I came here for after work drinks and dinner w friends and coworkers. It's pub fare with the expected range of drinks (I think they had some specialty beers, I'm not sure – not a huge beer drinker). I stuck to my wine, which both times came out in a dirty glass ::side eye:: and had the grilled chicken sandwich, which was ok. Chicken was a little dry. Nothing crazy to my experience. Everyone else said their food was good, which ranged from burgers, to the special of the day…
This place is advertised to close at 11 – I thought that meant they stopped serving food then. But I think I was wrong, by the time we left (shortly after 11), it was completely empty – to the point that I got the feeling they were waiting in us to close up. Coincidence? Maybe – we were also there on an off night.
Parking is hard so leave extra time for that. Overall this place is cute and located in a cute area, I would go back…after checking out other restaurants around there.
Decent pub, but I thought it was expensive for what I had and I did not find the menu interesting.
Very popular with yuppies looking for a bar scene.
Came in Saturday afternoon for lunch.
The decor is somewhat rustic with copper antique lights hanging from the ceiling.
I decided to sit at the bar. There are several TVs for viewing in the area.
Ordered the Mexican fish tacos. I was under the impression I was going to get the same fish tacos served in the adjoining restaurant Halcyon (same owners). These tacos had less fish, spicier and were served on soft shells. These tacos were fair. The tacos in Halycon have lots of fresh cod and are served in hard shells.
Ordered the Sticky Toffee Pudding with caramel sauce for dessert. Now that's a dessert to write home about!!!!
The male bartender was particularly nice. Sorry, I didn't catch your name.
The restaurant is good for people of all ages.
Just to mention, outdoor seating is available.
Egan and Sons share a back parking lot with Halcyon. Street parking is available too.
