Menu looked great, it looked great for the 15 mins we sat there as our table got skipped in order to tend to a bigger group who were probably regulars. The waitress probably thought "bigger tip". That's great because we walked out shortly after.. Maybe if we were just served with glasses of water to be acknowledged it would've been better.
Located across from my old apartment , I never had a desire to come to this place while it was some other name even though it was within 2 minute walk for me, just seemed blah. Here we are now, new name and all I figured why not check it out.
So I had a long Saturday night, asked a friend if they wanted to do brunch and we ended up here. They have outdoor and indoor seating, there is some street parking, they have their own small parking lot, and another one across to the right. The location is nice.
Anyhow on to the restaurant, the decor is decent, the staff seem quite friendly, and made some recommendations.
So ordered a Mango Smoothie, Orange Juice, coffee, Blueberry Orange Pancakes, sweet potatoe fries and the Chicken Quesdilla with goat cheese.
The Mango smoothie is Delicous and the serving is enough for two people, but it's so addicting you might not wanna share.
The Orange Juice just seemed to be like what it is, fresh squeezed Orange juice.
Sweet potatoe fries were average.
The Blueberry Orange pancakes, were tasty but it is an acquired taste. I'm not a fan but I can't say it didn't taste good.
The Chicken Quesdilla was awesome. I definitely recommend it for quesdilla fans.
Maybe some better options on sauces might have solidfied it for me.
I'd give it 5 stars but just felt the menu was slightly lacking.
Check it out sometime if you are ever in the neighborhood, having parking and being located near A park also make this a fun spot for brunch.
Had such high hopes for this place but it was so disappointing. The server/waitress would never come by, even to take our order. We had to literally yell for someone for everything we needed just to get some attention and basic service. Food was average, at best.
I was lucky enough to enjoy ny linner (lunch/dinner) here on Sunday afternoon.
Let's start with the decor. It's French themed but the food menu has changed. It's a homey atmosphere with comfortable seating.
The staff was wonderful and we were able to meet the owner James and his wife. Both were delightful and were very meticulous when bringing out food. They definitely made us feel important asking us for refills and napkins.
The food.. Well we ate a lot of food that we left in a food coma.
We started with the spring egg rolls which were absolutely delicious. What made them so delicious was the sauce. I can't pinpoint what the sauce was, but it was good. Then we enjoyed deep fried dumplings which were also good but the spring rolls were definitely better.
We then had an eggplant panini sandwich on a whole wheat roll with fresh mozzarella. This was one of my favorite entrees so far here.
We also had chicken quesadillas which were typically good. Followed by blueberry pancakes with blueberry syrup. They were fluffy and felt like I was eating healthy just because of the syrup and blueberries.
We finally ended with the chicken goat cheese salad which was extra refreshing.
Overall really nice place and good food! Will have to return here again soon!
When in mood for some sun dried tomatoes & brie w/grilled chix sandwich, this is my goto place. Easy, friendly staff, quick service and location is very convenient.
On multiple occations, tried their breakfast / brunch & lunch menus and food has always been decent +. I feel consistency is always a plus for a food business.
Crispy oriental chix salad, grilled veggie salad, sandwiches on 7 grain bread, quesadilla, burger… etc. It's a great place for a easy brunch or lunch.
Meh. When this place was La Maison, they served similar dishes but the food wasn't this bad. The service is still just as spotty as before. They can't handle more than 4 tables. They're coffee is apparently a tad more special, so don't expect cheap coffee here, but it is unlimited.
The service was SOOOOO SLOW. The staff seemed to be the same peeps as La Maison's. There were only 2 other tables filled when we arrived at 11am for family lunch. Four of us had to turn around and wave our arms to flag the waitress down. We wanted more coffee… Is that not something you should be coming back around for anyway? So I give 0 for service.
The food was about 3 stars at best. I would skip this place and go to Maywood or Edgewater family rest/diner if you want good food. My shashuka was TASTELESS. DO NOT ORDER THE SHASHUKA. I ate half an egg in it and almost threw up and had to just eat off other people's plates. Everything else seemed decent but none of the food puts it on equal footing with, say, the Original Pancake House, which is also a 4 star place at best. I should've had a sandwich. Ugh.
Parking is inconvenient so we just walk here from our condo.
The food price were warranted. I just wish service was better and that I had never tried their shashuka ever. My family members all said their food was so so- again, nothing to rave about.
I came here for brunch wth my friend..first visit here for both of us. The staff was nice but I felt like we ended up waiting a while to give our orders. I overheard the staff saying there was a large table inside that had a lot of orders. In any case, it was nice enough to sit out and enjoy brunch. I ordered a seafood omlette. It was cooked well and was a decent portion. The scallion pancake we ordered on the side was ok but nothing to rave about. I felt like it was mostly doughy. The Benedict was good but almost like any other Benedict. Our server was nice and I'm giving this spot 4 stars because he noticed a bug in my coffee and gave me a fresh cup! If you come on a weekend, give them a call to confirm where you can park because you maybe able to park Ina nearby lot for free!
Places like there annoy me because of the service. Small diners, coffee shops and such always want to beat the bigger competition but are unable to do so and it's probably the reason why they can't do so. My boyfriend and I went for breakfast on a Sunday morning and asked for regular breakfast food; eggs, potatoes and ham and this entire order took over a hour. I asked the waiter for two eggs over easy and two additional ones poached. All four eggs came back the same; over easy. Why don't you just tell me that you have no idea what that is and I will order something else or google it for you? The food was good but dear god tiny shops, get your efficiency together! We all would like to go to places other than Brownstone and The Original Pancake House.
