I know a lot of NY-area based yelpers love to moan and whine about the lack of good Mexican food around here. Here's the tip: you'll have to travel a little farther than you'd like. New Rochelle has a ton of authentic Mexican restaurants thanks to its population. Do your research, explore a little, and you'll be surprised at what you find.
El Gran Rodeo is one of many authentic joints dotting the city. Here, you'll get the real deal tacos with meat, cilantro, and onions. None of the cheddar-based BS that the illegitimate joints put out. They're also cheap!
The atmosphere may not be the best, but hey, you're not here to be fancy. You're here to be down-home.
A little pricey for Mexican but it was authentic and tasted very good. Service was very good, all servers were friendly. Nice Tex-Mexican ambiance and decoration
Had to be a family owned establishment since I saw the kids running out from the kitchen, eh as long as they don't stick their fingers in anything back there I cool with it.
I paid for water, since they gave me bottled instead of tap although I didnt request bottle. No big deal, maybe you just have to be specific what you are asking for. Speaking spanish will come in handy here as the waiters don't seem to understand English well.
A meal for two with 2 entrees ran me about $35.
