  1. Really great green grocer in the heart of Astoria. I like the selection and quality a lot better than the people next door @ Green Brothers. They have so much produce! All their herbs are located in the refrigerator in the back so if you need cilantro or parsley ask one of their helpful employees! They even have fresh Thai bird eye chilis and fresh grape leaves so that you can make dolmades! Prices are very reasonable. Nothing here is organic but their quality is unparalleled. Never shop for produce at a supermarket! Everything in supermarkets have been hanging out for god knows how long. Shop local and you will truly be much happier with the product. I will return.

  2. While next door United Brothers get a lot of hype, most of which is warranted, most folks walk by Eliniki Agora and not realize it's a hidden gem!

While United Brothers does offer tons of produce, fruits and other goodies, Eliniki Agora offers a lot of the same, PLUS a lot of hard to find items and while this may be hearsay, supposedly the same folks own Eliniki Agora and United Brothers, but that Eliniki gets the fresh stuff off the truck and afterwards, it gets transferred to United Brothers, since they get so many more customers and traffic.

Nice cashiers, awesome selection, ULTRA fresh fruits and produce turned my gf and I into regular custies!

  3. I have to say that the quality here is much better than ….next door. They also have some interesting finds like fresh almonds and white egg plant. This will be my go to from now on.

  4. This is officially my go to place for fruit in Astoria! The prices are unbeatable, and I've yet to find anything there that doesn't look fresh and delicious! They also take debit/credit cards (minimum $8) which is a rarity for small businesses like this.

Prices change, but the other day I got a box of strawberries and blackberries for $1.79 each. Those are generally $3.99-$4.99 in supermarkets!

  5. Fruits and vegetables must be a huge business here in Astoria. On this particular corner we have Elliniki Agora and a competitive store right next door that is 10 times the size. In my opinion, Elliniki is a strong and viable business on 30th Avenue.

Elliniki has a very fresh product with all your standard fruits and vegetables. I must say, that I usually shop for my F & V across the street at the supermarket. I do so for convenience, but if my local is out or it does not look fresh I come here.

I am a big fan of watercress and my supermarket usually does not carry it. Elliniki to the rescue. It is always fresh and bright green with a clean look. No yellowing.

Their pricing is competitive and it is open 24 hours.

If you can't find what your looking for, just ask. They probably have it in the back cooler. The place is spotless, clean and tidy. Some restaurants should take a class from these guys in maintaining a clean and safe operation.

I am very fortunate that I live in a community where I have options to purchase fruits and vegetables. Elliniki is a good choice. Besides I like saying "Elli-ni-ki". Say that 10 times fast. On my way to buy some goodies for Easter Sunday Dinner.

    Happy Easter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. Fresh fruits and veggies, easy access off the N/Q at 30th/Grand Ave., what more can you ask for?!  The biggest tomatoes, hard to find herbs and spices (fresh, yes), and tropical fruits in the middle of this crazy winter too?!?  Now you're spoiling us (however you pronounce this place's name)…

And they do accept credit cards too.  Damn damn damn, what else do they do?  Well, they are open 24 hours, forgot about that.

Every time I walk by this place, it makes me think in a flash of insanity that it is possible to live as a vegetarian.  I do quickly come back to my senses though, because duh… beef, pork, and chicken are amazeballs.  But the fact that a green grocer (or it's Greek??? equivalent) can make me think such irrational thoughts speaks volumes.  It also helps that the place "smells like a peach" in the summertime.
