We were a party of 8+1. While they were accommodating, I wouldn't recommend coming here with more than 5-6 people. We were given a long table, so narrow, it was hard to talk to everyone. I couldn't even see my grandma down the table!
For starters, I tried the Fried Calamari, Coconut Shrimp, and some Chilled Lobster… I forgot the name… It might've been a daily special. The appetizers weren't bad but they were nothing special.
For entree, I tried two of the steak options and Grilled Scottish Salmon. Steak was good but please pass on the salmon. Not worth the money. It was so bland I could've made better ones at home.
To my dismay, the food was nothing special but I must say, service was extraordinary. Our server was a sweetheart. Super polite and he came by to check up on us from time to time to see if we needed anything.
I dined here on a Saturday night without a reservation. My husband and I had to wait a little (about 20 minutes) but I feel it was worth the wait. Embers has a beautiful and inviting ambiance, much like your home…it's cozy and lit with candles. We waited on a long, comfortable couch in the front by the bar until we were seated.
Our table was near the front in the first dining area. There are two dining rooms, one by the bar, and another separate room to the left. The waitstaff was professional, polite, and attentive. Our order was taken soon and our food was brought out without much of a wait. We weren't rushed but also didn't have to wait for our food or the check.
The food was very good. My husband and I had the Coconut Shrimp for the appetizer, Filet Mignon, Potato Pie, and vegetable of the day, for the entree, as well as, the NY Sirloin Steak and a side of Creamy Spinach. The Potato Pie is a mouth-watering portion of mashed potato with proscuitto, mozzarella, and grated cheese. Yum! We loved everything and were so full at the end of dinner, we didn't have any room for dessert. The food was a bit pricey, but I think it's worth it.
We were there for about two hours… a nice, long meal. I like the fact that there were plenty of other occupied tables in the restaurant but no one rushed us to get out after we finished. We were celebrating my new job so we had a great time. I think we'll definitely be back again for dinner.
The entrance leads right to a bar area with a more mature crowd. The space itself has a pretty dark ambiance. The volume is at a rate where you can still easily have a conversation with the person next to you. There are 2 rooms and there is a large TV in the back of the dining room which definitely detracts from the idea of a classy steakhouse. They put green olives and bread on table, olives were perfectly tangy and might have been one of the highlights of the dining experience. Unfortunately after that everything went downhill. We were with a large group and ordered two bottles of wine which were left unopened on the table for about 10 minutes, at which point we were told that the glasses were too hot from just being washed so we would have to wait for them to cool down before being served. After we put our orders in, most people were served steaks that were not cooked to their liking. I enjoyed my skirt steak but most people were unhappy and one person had to send their steak back twice (first time was overcooked, second time undercooked!). The sides were also not that exciting. The potato pie that they are supposed to be known for is just your run of the mill mashed potatoes. The vegetable offerings were zucchini or peppers (like the peppers and onions that you get with sausage and peppers). We didn't go for dessert and I don't think we will be returning!
Came here with my mom for Mother's Day. Ordered the grass fed rib eye steak with string beans and potato pie, while my mom ordered the surf and turf (filet mignon and lobster tail). My meal was mediocre; the steak was fattier than expected and lacked flavor, and the string beans were soggy. I was told by the waiter that the grass fed rib eye was leaner than the regular rib eye, so I can't imagine how much fattier the regular rib eye would be. I've had better steaks, so I probably won't be coming back here unless the meal is free or the quality of the food improves.
I can understand why this place has good and bad reviews. Let's start with the good. Luckily, Embers is located in BayRidge, great place for steak w/o having to travel far (I live in BK). They have a full bar w/ two sides to their dining room.
As for the food we ordered plenty of dishes. I wanted to try almost everything. My only complaint was they undercooked our ribeye, we asked for it med/well and it came out super rare. It was sent back to the kitchen, but when it returned to our table I could tell that all they did was deep fry our steak. Literally. It was oily and way too over cooked. I was already annoyed and decided to keep the steak anyway since I was also waiting for my side dish (baked potato), which took forever.
Service was good. Everyone was friendly and welcoming. I would return and I would recommend Embers to others. Next time around, I would love to try their prefix menu.
I was brought here as a surprise and didn't know what to expect except that I had this restaurant bookmarked in my yelp!
Once you walk into the restaurant, it brings a very relaxing, romantic, candle lit environment! Came here with a reservation so we got seated asap. The place for full once we sat down so remember to reserve just in case.
As for the food, we ordered the crab cake which was OMG! I loved that the size was big enough and very meaty! It filled me up a bit plus that sauce that came with it was a little spicy yet unique! As for entree, I ordered the skirt steak paired with a red wine! You can't go wrong with these combo! The steak sauce that they provided was something different, not quite strong taste which is good so it didn't take away the steak's flavor. We also ordered the Angus steak which was humongous! It was he size of two of my hands! More than enough! You can even share amongst two people with a appetizer!
Due to the overload of food, dessert was not needed! There was no room for anymore! Lol but I must say great steak house in Brooklyn! Definitely recommended and give it a try!
Stopped in here with the wife for our anniversary. Our steaks were OK, nothing too memorable. I doubt I'll ever come back here though as most of our leftovers were thrown out and not packed up to go. Not like they misunderstood me, I mean they threw out some of my food. I didn't even touch an order of Calamari, had it wrapped up and when I got home there was about a third of what was on my table. Same with the Mac and cheese. I consider that theft.
It hardly matters. Chadwicks is right in the area and is a better restaurant. I'll go there instead.
Embers is sort of the Bay Ridge version of Peter Luger but without the fancy restaurant and the experience. The Porterhouse here is huge and it comes with sides, which is a plus. We ordered the Porterhouse for two and it really could've fed 3-4.
The crabcakes are pretty good and the Prince Edward Mussels were very plump. Both serving sizes are very generous so we had more than enough to go around. The Peach Melba was also very delicious.
Embers is almost as good as Luger – if they had the thick cut bacon, I would just come here instead of having to make reservations 3 weeks in advance for Luger.
