I've become something called a … a regular. You know. The type that's ordered the same thing over and over again and comes at a certain time/day. I think it's slowly becoming my date-night spot and why not? They've got fantastic pizzas and the appetizers I've had were all good. Their soppressata arancini are to die for and the goat cheese salad is a must-order. The breading on the cheese and arancini are very light, its great and you don't feel heavy afterwards. Fantastic brick oven pizza. Crisp with delicious sauces. I've never been able to catch their pesto square special but it looks like it'd be delicious.
Emma's isn't great for nightly takeout since it's pricier than the local pizzeria but for a night out, it's very affordable especially since it's BYOB. Portions are perfect in my opinion, the large pies are enough to feed 2 hungry people with some to take home. I've never been able to try their desserts (very curious about their tiramisu).
Service is always fantastic. I've been here a bunch of times and each time, I got nothing but smiles and great service. They're very friendly, fast, and accommodating. I don't think I could ask for much more.
I've really only ever had their pizzas, which have been great, and since moving to the area I decided to see what else they're cooking up. I can tell you it's mediocre pizzeria Italian food. Maybe the management changed or maybe they really only know pizza but the Emma's I recall is gone.
The menu is quite large, double-sided in fact, and there are numerous items that are marked as being New! Clearly someone who created this menu wanted their customers to notice these items and order them, and honestly they sounded delicious. But guess what, when we tried to order the fried pepps appetizer our server made up some bogus story how the restaurant is no longer serving that dish because it wasn't working out. It's awful that you make your servers go through with making up these stories day in and day out when you can just update your menus! And the worst part is the menus aren't new, they're old and used, so it appears that it's been like this for awhile. Shame on you.
As for the other food, meh. My wife got a salad to start where the 2 main components were strawberries and pumpkin seeds, sounds great! What came out was an enormous salad with mostly lettuce and tomatoes, a ton of goat cheese maybe even the whole container, and guess what barely any strawberries. And to make it worse, they thought they could trick the customer again by replacing pumpkin seeds with sunflower seeds. Either update your menus or tell the customer what you are doing! What was a $7 salad mostly consisted of lettuce and tomatoes, not cool! And it was overdressed.
For entree I had the pasta arrabiata with sausage and my wife the shrimp francese and a side of pasta. The food was honestly just whatever and we were better off at olive garden, not that there's anything wrong with the OG at all! The pasta was not fresh and came from a box of ronzoni and the sausage was frozen and overcooked. I don't eat out to make the same crap I can in my kitchen at 10x the price. My wife's dish was initially served incorrectly, chicken instead of shrimp, but was corrected. The least you could have done was have a stellar marinara, but nope you didn't.
Your website has this great line "traditional old world italian favorite dishes with a modern flair." Maybe you should read that back to yourself a few hundred times and figure out what you are trying to achieve with this restaurant. There's plenty of Italian competition in the area, just keep that in mind.
The pizza itself is pretty good. I got the Vodka personal pizza for lunch and enjoyed it. The pasta is sub par. I would stick to the pizza when ordering here. The customer service and wait staff during a Friday afternoon for lunch is slow. There was one lady waiting on the whole entire restaurant. We waited a long time to get our check that we finally went to pay at the register. There was a guy there who could've helped the waitress out and fetched our check. Instead he was sitting there looking bored on his phone. Either help your co-worker out or hire another server.
Very good brick oven pizza, good pasta/salads. BYO. Very crowded. Very basic decor.
I've been hearing a lot about Emma's for a while so I was really excited to try it. I ordered a large margherita pie with sausage and the salumeria rice balls. The rice balls were decent but I probably wouldn't get it again. It was nice and cheesy on the inside but lacked the flavor I was expecting. The marinara sauce complimented it nicely. For what it was, it was a little overpriced at $6.
The margherita with sausage was different than I expected. Usually, there are ribbons of basil and patches of fresh mozzarella and sauce. This one had barely any sauce, no visible basil. The cheese tastes pretty fresh and the crust was really nice and crispy. After my second slice, the pie cooled down and the crust got pretty difficult to chew and the sausage was also difficult to chew.
Next time, I want to try the pesto square on Tuesday nights!!
Staff members were nice and accommodating. No complaints there.
Stopped in Emma's pizza on a freezing cold day – it was kind of cold inside because I think the walls open up in the summer.
I wouldn't really categorize Emma's as brick oven pizza – it's more like basic jersey pizza. The margherita pie was a basic cheese/plain pie of pizza. The crust is thin and the pizza was crispy but it really wasn't what we were after.
We also shared the minestrone soup which was pretty good but really salty. Maybe we'll have to try it again!
I usually get takeout from here, as i work across the street from the place.
Pizza is on of the best in New Jersey.
My wife loves their fried ravioli, and also the goat cheese and arugula salad.
We usually get a regular pie with fresh garlic.
Making pizza is definitely an art, and this place does it right!
Went here with friends and their kids on a Friday night. We got right in and they had a highchair for the little one. Waitress got drinks out quickly. We ordered 4 different pizzas, buffalo wings, escarole, and a kids meal. They brought the wings, escarole, and kids meal out first. Kids enjoyed the chicken fingers. The buffalo wings were breaded, not my favorite, but had good flavor. The escarole was tender and sautéed in garlic.
The pizzas were all enjoyable. I got a margherita with meatball topping (I wanted arugula but they wouldn't do that). The crust had that brick over flavor and the sauce was bright. The meatball had nice seasoning and was tender. DW had the white pizza and enjoyed the distribution of the ricotta cheese. The only downside was it took a long time to get our leftovers wrapped up and get our check. This was because the restaurant was understaffed and our waitress had way too many tables both inside the restaurant and out on the sidewalk.
