  1. Definitely disappointed with my experience here. First off, we wanted to try the burger and there are some regulations about burgers during the week so fair enough. But generally we just didn't like it. The okanami fries were good enough and I (not the rest of my table) liked the spicy chicken sandwich. But we order the namesake Emmy Pizza and it just missed the mark for us. The crust was very nice though, so would like to try a more standard option like the pepperoni, so likely will return to give it another shot. Still, given the hype, it felt misplaced based on our experience.

  2. After being slightly underwhelmed with the original Emily in Clinton Hill, I'm pretty over the moon with their latest project, Emmy Squared. I can't recall ever eating 'Detroit style pizza' (I've had Naples, Sicilian, Chicago, New York, and Connecticut styles previously), but color me a fan.

I know evenings can get hectic, but lunchtime on a Wednesday wasn't an issue accommodating a party of six at noon. Between our group, we ordered two pizzas: the red sauce Deluxe with mozzarella, sausage, peppers, and mushrooms, and the white style Marn Blanc featuring mozzarella, ricotta, pecorino, and caramelized onion. The rectangular pies came out perfectly crisp with what seemed like cheese baked into the outside of the crust. For a square pizza, it was light and airy, not unlike a Sicilian style square slice, and absolutely delicious. Depending on your level of hunger, you may need to order additional pizzas, or augment with other items on their menu. Had we not ordered a kale salad, a Caesar salad, and two burgers to share, we'd have definitely needed a couple more pizzas to walk away feeling full.

Regarding the latter, I don't know what it is, but I still find the burger disappointing. I wasn't thrilled with the exclusive hit at Emily, and I had high hopes I'd be proven wrong with Le Big Matt here at E². I'm going to stick with the pizza, because after two tries, it's just not resonating with me. I'm also one of the only people I know who doesn't like Game of Thrones or the matcha trend, so maybe I'm a giant idiot surrounded by humans who've ascended to a higher level of consciousness…

If you've been holding on, get in here ASAP. You won't regret it.

  3. No slices.
    There is usually a wait.
No coke products on the menu.
    Service not the best.

I don't think this is the king of the square, but it's definitely in the top five.

"Detroit style pizza" is just another recipe for Sicilian style, that got picked up around metro Detroit, mainly because of the cheesey burnt ends, and some other minut details. So don't get excited about the name, and judge it compared to other squares In the city.

The perfect square for me is still L&B Spumoni, but the corners here are to die for… And the dough is also not shabby.  About their pepperoni: prince street pizza is ten times better!  so if you are looking for an "imperfect pizza" that has some really great addictive qualities to it, then come visit Emmy squared..

The addictive part is mainly the ends, where they intentionally burn the ends while dropping some brick cheese on top of it before hand.

One note before I continue, for me a perfect slice is when the dough, sauce, cheese, crust, balance, are good, and complement each other…  It Doesn't have to be high end, or artisanal. quite the contrary, the more experimental, and unique, the harder you have to work to perfect it.

Don't get their "cheese curds", it's extremely overhyped, and not worth the price…

    Service:
It's a hit or a miss, I had a somewhat pleasant experience, but it doesn't look like they are overly interested in pleasing their customers.

No pops here, one star down.
having a pizzeria that doesn't serve coke proo to wash down the grease and acidity is the latest "crime against humanity" by these hipster, wanna be cool Pizzerias…  I simply don't get it! And they don't have any alternatives.

    Bottom line:
If you are a pizza snob, you need to check out this place, if not, there are a lot of better options out their considering they don't serve by the slice, and their service is below part.

  4. We stopped by Emmy Squared for a snack. The two of us shared the deluxe pizza ($19). Each pizza comes with six rectangular slices. The crust is thick but crispy and airy. While Detroit-style pizza isn't my favorite, I thought the pizza here was pretty good.

Service was good. The space was clean and modern. Not crowded at 2pm on a Sunday.

  5. Venue: (4/5) great vibe.  This place would be good for dates, groups…all types of guests.  It's casual with a modern pizza parlor twist.  There is plenty of seating and a nice looking bar sign a large beer selection on draft

    Food (3/5)
    Deluxe pizza (3/6)
good pizza and crispy.  However with the amazing NYC pizza game the size of the pizza vs the cost of 19 dollars Id recommend other places.

Fries with bonito flakes and mayo (2/5)
think waffle fries with this topping.  It was ok.  Not worth the price of 11 dollars.

Service (3/5) we hunted down our waitress many times

  6. My friend and I were on a quest to find the Best Pizza in Brooklyn. These were one of the contenders! Emmy Squared Pizza is Detroit-style pizza typically in a rectangle shape and and served on a elevated wire rack. The pizza/food, my friend and I, got were not exactly traditional though.

We came on Thursday at around 7pm, it was a minimal wait 5 mins, but the restaurant was packed! We were able to get seats at the bar. The bar area is not a place for claustrophobic people.

The lady bartender was super sweet and nice! She described the specials so well and she  convinced us to get both specials!

    Buffalo Duck Wings
They is less meat on the bones compared to regular chicken wings. Buffalo Wings are one of my favorite foods and Duck is one of my favorite meats, so I thought this positively unique and delicious.
I would have probably tried to lick the sauce, if I was into embarrassing myself.

    Dave's Day Off Pizza
    -BBQ Chicken
    -Black Sesame
    -Spicy Pineapple
    -Red Onions
    -Drizzled with Otafuku takoyaki sauce
    -Drizzled with Aioli Sauce

A++! It was some bomb-diggity experimental pizza and they hit ball park.

I'm not a crust person…I believe it's what's on the inside that counts. Sometime the crust fills you up, when you could have saved room for the middle goods. But it was delectable enough for me to scarf it down. The crust was crispy and not too large.

    DRINKS
    Negorin
-There's a numbing sensation. I believe there's gin in there, and it was strong.
    Rum Punch
-Girl Approved! Sweet and coconutty. came with the umbrella

Overall, i want to come back to try other items on the menu

  7. I think Emmy squared is as good as prince street pizza.
Location: if you have a car, it would be relatively easy to be in this place. If you live in williamsburg, it would also be easy to walk around the corner and get here. But for those who are from Manhattan like me who don't own a car, getting here is tough.

The neighborhood is … Two sided. One side, I see abandoned buildings but the other side, fancy luxury buildings are all around.
    Tell me about gentrification.

This place is a product of gentrification
Food: I got the supreme pizza. It's pretty good.
Balanced but loaded cheese crust with some serious dough and good quality ingredients on top of it.

Price: average stuff here are over 17 dollars. For a pizza, it's 19…

Service: Don't come here alone because they will treat you like shit. They basically will forget you.
And to the lady who gave me a look when I decided not to order the burger..
WHY? Why can't i just have pizza instead of burger even though I kinda know that burger is pretty good here as well.

Should be a 4 star place but the service ruined the experience

    3.5

  8. Maybe it's the bigger space, the larger menu, or just the neighborhood, but everything feels looser, and just more fun at Emmy Squared compared to the original Emily.

Emily makes great thin pies, with precise toppings, but the dimly lit and crowded exterior, along with the strict no substitution policy and rationed number of burgers meant that eating there felt like a privilege rather than a choice.

Working out of a corner slot that briefing and disastrously hosted another burger restaurant last year, Emmy pushes a slightly different concept to even better results.

I knew things were going to be good when I showed up to find the rest of my family already seated (a rare treat these days, especially at a hip restaurant) and speaking with Emily herself. I was able to catch the end of the conversation, where Emily joked with my namesake sister and  even explained that a downstairs space meant that there would be more burgers and no limits down there.

We ordered a mix of (and too much) pizza, which were heavy and rich but also pumped full of spicy and tangy notes. This had the richness that you see in the middle of the country with the flavor that can be forgotten. We also ordered a meatball sub as an "appetizer" – this was a gluttonous meal – and it was exemplary done.

Who knows if this is exactly how they serve pizza in Detroit – not I. It is really, however, excellent stuff.
