Great disco fries. A huge selection of food to choose from. The waiters are very nice and let you wait there for a while if you'd like. The food is great. I recommend it!
This place is ok. Ambiance leaves a lot to be desired. It reminds me a lot of a run down Silver Diner. I came here for breakfast on a Sunday morning while visiting some friends. Prices were cheap and food was decent. I had the eggs Benedict and it was fine. I'm not a huge breakfast person but this place gets the job done…for a party of 6 we were seated very quickly. Service was ok. There was also quite a huge collection of gum underneath the table so watch where you put your hands. Not much else I can say…..it's not a place I would go out of my way for.
I've been coming to Empire for 15 years and we used to love it. It's gone downhill-and this comment isn't just from this most recent visit, it's from what I've experienced over the past year or so. We stopped in a couple weeks ago on the night of my daughter's graduation and when we were going to be seated near the counter we asked for the dining room. You'd have thought we asked for the money in the register from the look we got.
We didn't order much since it was late and my daughter was eating with friends (this was the night we horrified her by just being there). The service was terribly slow and our waitress never once asked if our drinks needed to be refilled. French onion soup wasn't as good as it used to be. My wife and I ordered salads and they were simply ok…nothing special. My wife also had Matzoh ball soup which was very tasty-matzoh ball was huge though- there needed to be more broth. My son's mozzarella sticks were ok too, hard to screw them up I guess.
Maybe they've gotten complacent, I don't know. What I DO know is that the food and service aren't what they used to be. I'll try again if I'm in the area, but I'm no longer going out of my way to make my way here.
Pancakes were decent. Belgian waffles were limp and bland, as if they were made ahead of time. I get better waffles at the Fairfield Inn. Sausages were good – they have girth and are juicy.
Service is somewhat lacking and the busboy hardly speaks or understands you. They serve creamy butter, which is good, but have syrup in packaged cups. Please sir, can I have warm syrup??
Stopped in with a small group for breakfast on a Sunday morning, and the experience was sufficient. The breakfast plates were fairly large and tasty, while glasses of orange juice were tiny. Refills on coffee were timed well (once or twice throughout the meal), and we were left in peace to eat and talk without feeling rushed.
The only real negative was the fact that our waitress didn't seem too pleased to be there. When someone asked what was actually in one of the omelets listed on the menu, she rolled her eyes. And when he took 30 seconds to decide on his second option, she seemed quite antsy. The restaurant was fairly empty, and it wasn't as though she was rushing to manage another table. The attitude wasn't appreciated, but won't deter me from going back at some point in time.
It's all about the blue cheese burger and disco fries y'all. Don't deviate! Only problem is it's far away from civilization aka NYC
Empire is a great example of a classic NJ diner. Their prices have gone up over the years, unfortunately. The chocolate chip pancakes are delicious, and feel free to request just about anything you want; if they can make it, they will.
The food was average to slightly below average NJ diner food. Service was terrible. I realized halfway through the meal that our waitress was serving the ENTIRE restaurant by herself. Her boss stood at the entryway and fiddled with the menus the entire time, when he could've been helping. We left her a decent tip anyway since it was clearly not her fault that the service was so poor.
