“They also served an olive bread unlike anything I've ever eaten that complimented the meal perfectly.”
“While I wouldn't necessarily go that far, I will say that Bronx's Little Italy beats the shit out of Little Italy in Manhattan.”
“The fried meatball appetizer with onions and sweet peppers was awesome- warning though- cause "now that's a some a spicy meatballa!"”

I really wanted to give them 2 1/2 stars.
A friend and I went here for dinner after we found out that Roberto's was currently in the process of being renovated. The food was delicious. We started off with the baked polenta and mozzarella with peppers and tomato. For the entrée I got their chicken francese and my friend ordered their chicken parm. Couldn't order any dessert, but I'll tell you about that towards the end. So yes, the food was good…but then again, if you have an Italian restaurant on Arthur Avenue, the food better be up to par. It was more or less the service we had qualms about.
We were seated towards the wall (this was fine). Then my friend moved to the seat across from me so that she was not in the way of the "traffic". 3 minutes later, the hostess asked her to move back since she would be "in the way" of the other table. Mind you, the other table had not been seated, nor would it be seated for another 15 minutes. I'll be honest, she probably would not have mind moving. It was just in the manner of how she asked her to move. Our waiter came by our table once to take our order, that's fine…I guess, as long as my glass continued to be re-filled. But what really erked our nerve was when they dropped the bill without offering DESSERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There was an awkward silence at our table for about 2 minutes.
No worries, we paid the bill…and walked two stores down to the café and grabbed a cappuccino and our much anticipated desert. Maybe we were there on an off night, BUT….I cannot forgive you if you don't offer me dessert. No Bueno.
My first time in little italy after I moved to the Bronx, and this was definitely a great italian food experience.
my friends and I started with an appetizer platter of cheeses, meats, some veggies. simple yet delicious.
Oh and the bread was really good. I think I got full just from eating that. Make sure you ask for olive oil and balsamic vinegar.
we got a veal dish with mozzarella on it. this dish was really good.
we also got a pasta with tomato sauce with olives. the sauce and olives were really well made, the tomatoes tasted fresh too. but I wasn't a huge fan of the actual pasta.
Service was great though.
You don't have to be dressed up when you go, but I recommend at least jeans.
I've had better italian food elsewhere, but this sure is a great restaurant among many other gems along arthur ave (little italy)
Umm, No. Thank You!
This was Frank's response when the server asked him if he wanted his leftovers packed. Frankly Frank could have comfortably dined the next afternoon given the extremely generous helping of Orechiette alla Calabrese (Chicken, Italian sausage and Portobello mushrooms in a red sauce) on his plate. But, he has the good sense to make his calories count… and live up to his name 🙂
We had stopped by Enzo's during our Bronx pastry expedition after finding that the personality rich, Pugsley pizza was closed for the summer, and would reopen after mid August. We decided to come back and try any of the notable restaurants at Arthur Avenue that we had not been to. As Dominick's had a half an hour wait (at 6 pm), we walked over to Enzo's nearby and were immediately seated.
I had left the restaurant selection to Ms. Piggie and was amused that she chose one where half the dining room was empty over one where there was no available seating. Her logic was that she would rather not waste any time waiting. I suspect she'd already in her mind decided that the wait was not warranted by the difference in food quality between the two.
I would hope that Dominick's is better as my Rigatoni alla Siciliana (eggplant, fresh tomato and fresh mozzarella) may have been a very competent soup, but not so much a pasta (I exaggerate slightly, but you get the picture). The sauce did not appeal to me at all, and could easily be marketed as a generic "red sauce" much like "white sauce" is offered to diners at Halal food carts!! In fairness, the pasta was al dente.
While Ms. Piggie was not as dissatisfied with her Chicken Balsamico (Chicken breast served with Portobello mushrooms and balsamic vinegar reduction) she was quite certain that it was not a reduction. Maybe the restaurant also shares the philosophy ably enunciated by Witty Kitty a few years back, "WTF is a reduction of xyz."
Speaking of reduction, I would also like to reduce the review to highlight the positives of the meal: prompt seating, generous servings, wallet friendly. After all, given their much superior dining options compared to Manhattan's Little Italy, I do hope to continue to dine and get good service at the restaurants in Bronx's Little Italy.
What do you mean: "fuhgeddaboudit?!"
I'm sorry, but this place was terrible! I would have been better off at Olive Garden.
We were seated and waited 10 minutes for them to bring us menus and water. Once we got the menus they served complimentary olive bread and Italian bread. The olive bread was the best item I ate here.
We started with the meatball appetizer. I could not even eat it due to the spice level. I like spicy, but this was just plain ridiculous. The waiter told us that it was because they never know how hot the Italian peppers will be and today's peppers were really hot. He then explained that they do not taste the peppers first so however it comes out is just the way it is for the day. I'm sorry, but I don't go for that.
We order half portions (lunch sizes) of pasta for the main course. My husband had linguine with clam sauce. Clams were overcooked to the point of rubber and the sauce had no flavor. It tasted like the pasta water. I had the orrechetti Della nonna special which had chunks of pancetta that I could not eat because they were too thick I couldn't chew them. The dish was supposed to contain a touch of cream, but it ws swimming in an overly oily and way too creamy sauce.
Me and the family were in Bronx's LIttle Italy for the Ferragosto street festival. I have eaten at quite a few of the Arthur avenue restaurants in the past. We came across Enzo's by accident. We were next door in Giovanni's….not a bad place….ate here before. We waited 10 mins to be seated by the waiter even though there were numerous seats open and he acknowledged us but walked past me several times. While we were waiting an employee brushed passed my wife to go adjust the thermostat…no excuse me or pardon me or anything..thought that was a bit rude….that's when we took our business elsewhere.
Now for Enzo's. Very nicely decorated restaurant.Tin ceilings and brick walls and a small bar in the front. Due to Ferragosto, they had a special shortened menu. I ordered the cavatelli with broccoli and sausage. It was excellent and a very large portion….brought some home with me. MY wife and son shared the chicken parm with spaghetti. This was a large cutlet…..very good. I loved their red sauce…very tasty. The bread on the table was great too. The basket was filled with half regular italian and half black olive bread….both were fresh and tasty. The service was good even though it was pretty hectic due to the festival. Would definitiely go back to try their regular menu.
Questo posto e fantastico! Finally real authentic Italian. It was well worth the trip to little Italy in the Bronx to find this gem! The atmosphere, the service and the food were top notch. I was seated immediately. The olive bread was excellent. The fried meatball appetizer with onions and sweet peppers was awesome- warning though- cause "now that's a some a spicy meatballa!" The double cooked pork with peppers and mushrooms was absolutely delicioso! Also had the rigatoni with butter nut squash and sausage- molto bene! In the world of Olive Gardens and Pizza Huts it is no nice to find a place that "speaks Italian to you" through its food and ambience. I highly recommend and will be back!
