  1. My boyfriend and I really like to have sushi. we always go to river and we wanted to try somewhere new last week. we yelped and found era. its a bit dim when you go in but that didnt bother us. we went on saturday at around 6pm. there werent a lot of people when we went in but by the time we left around 730, it was pretty packed.

their appetizers are REALLY interesting compared to river and sushi village. we got 2 orders of their taro fries. YUM. perfectly fried with just the right amount of salt and it wasnt oily. their duck spring roll was ok, didnt taste the duck. i thought it was a veggie roll ( my bf ordered it. i didnt see it on the menu at first) but i do h ave to say that the skin of the duck spring roll was very crisp and not oily. lastly, we got their rock shrimp. YUM AGAIN!!! my bf and i dont really eat spicy foods so the rock shrimp was perfect for our palate; just a hint of spice.

I do wish that they had the baked mussel and seafood shell that river has but oh well diff resturants offer different foods

as for the sushi and sashimi:

i dont eat sashimi but my bf said that it was super fresh. and i loved their sushi. their silver (i dont remember the full name) was REALLY good. we ordered 3 rolls of this lol. the top had seaweed salad, spicy crab and avocado all mixed together along with eel and avocado in the roll itself.
i also loved their hand rolls; the eel is super fresh and eel sauce YUM!! 🙂

even though the service is a little slow but i dont mind the wait. their food is really good and their waitress'/waiters are really polite.

i would make the 30 min drive out there just to have their sushi again!
its our new to go place for sushi!!

  2. I'm not a fanatic for the fusion food type of places but it just happened that Era was directly next to a kids artsy place where we were spending the afternoon. Without much expectation, we made our way over as it was convenient, but for each trip we've made next door, it's also become a staple to eat here after a day of painting gadgets. Who I think may be the owner does a remarkable job to notice each table that is dining there without being intrusive and the attention to detail can't be ignored. I'm not terribly familiar with the area, but what little I've noticed is that there aren't many eateries. It's a great little place with open patio doors for those beautiful breezy days, good food and phenomenal service.

  3. Le sigh. I hate having to go back on a good review, but I feel that I must.

My boyfriend and I returned to Era on a quiet Wednesday night for dinner. The place was empty around 8pm and we said goodnight to the owner as he was leaving for the night. We were seated and proceeded to check off what we wanted to eat.

The rock shrimp was still amazing, so it seemed like our meal was off to a good start. Boy, were we wrong… It took a good 20 minutes for our sushi and rolls to come out. When we were finally served our food, we didn't even recognize the special rolls we ordered. We were pretty shocked because we remember everything looking so tasty the first time we were here. We even checked the ingredients in the rolls versus the menu; while everything checked out, the presentation was awful and the taste was just not there. In addition to the subpar rolls we were given, it took another 20 minutes for our hand rolls to be served (uh, what and why?). Finally, I looked over at the sushi chefs only to realize that they looked like teenagers who had no idea what they were doing. Granted, I could be wrong about their age, but they were definitely not experienced sushi chefs AT ALL. Add onto the fact that after the initial order we had to flag down and physically go up to the front of the restaurant (we were seated towards the back) to get our server's attention in a mostly empty restaurant, we were left with bitter tastes and left the establishment with unsatisfied stomachs.

If you go on a weekend when it's busy, you'll probably receive better service and better food, but I would urge you to stay away on weeknights when the place is left to run without any adults in charge.

For the price, I think we'll drive the extra distance and go to AYCE sushi places that we know won't disappoint.

  4. $26.99 ayce sushi (6/2016)

Good selection and variety of choices for the sushi. I would consider the quality better than River. Nice interior decoration. Street parking. Service was pleasant, orders for more sushi took a bit of time, but that is expected.

    Pretty good. Check it out!

  5. Good decent sushi with fast service. $25 per adult, my daughter who is less than 3 was free. A fair selection and the appetizers portion isn't huge so u get to try a lot more different dishes. Overall a great experience and def come back again, with friends and family! Came here a number of times already, once also with the parent. the manager (or owner?) Adrian is very friendly and chatted with all the guests, he also mentioned he's been in Great Neck for a decade and tries to give back to the community and will have candy available for the kids for the Great Neck Plaza Halloween parade 😛

  6. Service was slow and non-attentive. Good value for meal depending on what a big eater you are. I prefer Sushi Palace in Great Neck personally. A little less expensive, less on the menu, but I think overall better quality and better service.

  7. It was empty for lunch on a Tuesday. Miso soup and salad were ok. Sashimi plate was good, but decorative white fish cut to look like a flower was bad. I mean bad smell and taste.  Spat it out. Apology offered by waitress and she offered another cut of fish. No thanks.  Shudder….

  8. came here and really started contemplating all my decisions in life, if only this happened instead of this, if only i had worked harder etc etc then I wouldnt have to be here eating an ayce serving of what felt like prison food.

quality here was pretty poor for both the cooked foods and the sushi, sashimi was okay though.

had the cooked items first, shrimp tempura was comprised mostly of breading, rock shrimp had a strange hard exterior, but the worst offender by far was the chicken satay which was incredibly dry and tough to chew, definitly had the texture of rubber bullets or rocks or something.

sushi had a little too much rice to fish ratio, but the fish tasted stale and the rice was definitly harder then it should have been. the special rolls were just a variation of the same 4 ingredients which is incredibly dissapointing. the only redeeming quality of this establishment was the fact that the sashimi was pretty decent. in addition the service i recieved here was pretty horrible……was seated in a isolated corner aince they ran out of room in the main areas and definitly was not in any of ther servers radar for the entire night…..might not be their fault entirely as there were only two servers for the night.

anyway a first and a last for me at this establisment
