  1. Don't you dislike when you have high expectations for something and then there's a let down? Don't you just hate that?

I swear I enter an establishment with an open mind, honestly I do, especially if they are relatively new to the local area. I want to see new restaurants succeed, because we are in need of more diverse good to excellent quality, solid restaurants in The Bronx. My problem, I know, is that I have experienced the worst of eats and the very best of eats, so in my opinion that gives me a well rounded idea of a few things. I don't claim to know everything, but I know what works for me. Maybe my expectations are too high? Idk.

My appetizer, the Eggplant Cake at Escape International Cuisine though small in portion, the flavor and texture was on point. I love an eggplant dish no matter the cuisine and this one I recommend. The idea of Chef Josè Solares including provolone and ricotta cheeses gives the Eggplant Cake a slightly unique flavor accompanied by a mild, slightly sweet marinara sauce that melds well and ties all components together.  Three plus stars to the Eggplant Cake for its addictive flavor profile, but a few negatives as cost overshadows the small portion.

On the other hand, and what dipped this rating immensely was my main course of Grilled Lamb Chops. The order I received had me asking, …'where is Gordon Ramsey when you need him?' He would've loudly spewed a ton of expletives and expressed how Lamb Chops should be cut and prepared. So, to my point, if an order of medium-rare is requested and then four lamb chops are cut, words escape me, but almost paper thin is this best I can think of right now. Then grill these thin chops well-done to the point that all fat has been rendered and there is not an ounce of moisture in the meat and to charge $25.00 for such a small, over-cooked portion is insulting. If two out of the four chops were placed together it would not constitute as one fair portion…smh.

If it weren't for the Eggplant appetizer, the warm atmosphere and attentive wait staff, this would be a one star review.

I will lightly say, that maybe my order was prepared on an off time? Mistakes do happen and maybe that's not the norm? I am trying to give them the benefit of the doubt as the potential is there. If you are in the area take the time to form your own honest opinion. Who knows maybe Escape International Cuisine will make a few adjustments on portion control and match their portions more to cost.
