Small haunt. It has tacos. I have to say that the toppings were awesome! Sour cream, diced tomatoes, chopped onions, hot sauce, guacamole, cheese! Yum! I would totally come back. My order: the veggie quesadilla. It was great with side of large nachos and guacamole. I loved it! Oooh…hot melty cheese and the delicious beans with cheese! My friend even ordered two tacos (fish and chicken). The fish was so good that I think I wished I could have eaten the whole thing! My friend offered a bite which I said "hell yes!" Yeah, so it is a great place if you want something to fill your belly and hadn't had anything to eat for a while. My friend said it is a spot to get hangover food, but what do I know? I am learning stuff everyday. I know when I arrived there was not a line, yet I should mention that straight after I ordered, there was a queue building out the door (theoretical door, since there is just an opening). I mean it was popping! As cozy as it was, I felt like I was at home.
Really great tacos. I often go when I go to Whiskey Ward. I also often go back more than once a night because the tacos are so good.
The tacos are fresh and well seasoned and they are a good price.
Great chicken tacos. Also had a bite of my friend's quesadilla and it was delicious. Fast and they accept credit cards, plus there are a few tables for eating in!
Before a night out in the L.E.S., the beau and I needed some dinner, but we didn't have a lot of time before meeting some friends for a party. Essex Taqueria to the rescue! It's a pretty simple operation, with tacos, burritos, and meal plates. I opted for a rice and bean burrito, loaded with gauc, cheese, and cilantro; I must compliment them for making a burrito that's NOT the size of a newborn baby. Ha! So many burrito joints make them massive, but this was just the right size. Thank goodness!
This spot is a savior.
This is a tiny place with Mexican food. It is similar to chipotle but a bit more expensive than chipotle. They have burritos, tacos, salads etc. just like other Mexican places. There is seating but not much at all, more of a takeout place. I had the fish burrito and it tasted flavorful and fresh, the fish was very tender and soft, you have your choice of greens, rice, beans, corn, fresh jalapeños, guacamole for an extra $1. I would go back if in the area. Credit cards are accepted, minimum $10.
Wannabe chipotle. Almost everything is bland and I didn't really enjoy it. I did have high expectations. It's a hole in the wall with nice decor but that's about it.
The thing that really makes it actually taste good is the salsas they use. Other than that not a place I'd go back too, unless I was really drunk and they were a last resort.
Had an al pastor burrito to go. I personally don't like guacamole (sue me) so the extra charge doesn't bother me. Got it with rice, black beans, corn, cheese, salsa, and hot sauce/salsa Verde.
Cashier was nice.
Hot sauce was pretty spicy. Pork was mostly quite tender. Needed a bit more piña also. Burrito could have used a bit of heat as well.
Overall though, it was quite good for the price.

The tacos here are solid and of many varieties: you can choose from pork al pastor, carnitas, grilled chicken, carne asade, chorizo, vegetarian and more. Meats are perfectly cooked and corn tortillas are moist, warm and flavorful!
The best part is that all of the tacos are between $3 and $4. A bargain, considering I eat 2 or 3 of these babies (tops) before I am full.
Everything is cooked and made fresh to order except the guacamole and chips–they are not bad, but nothing to write home about
You get to choose toppings you like for you: onions, radishes, carrots, corn, pico de gallo, lettuce, black beans, rice, and more. Extra charge for guacamole and cheese. Ask for limes to squeeze over your tacos. No shortage of Cholula, either.
