So when I first bookmarked Etto to write a review the place had just opened. My boyfriend works in the area and we park the car nearby so he suggested I try them out. And the espresso was good. They are the best espresso bar/ café in this immediate neighborhood in my opinion so I even recommended them to CUPS. After all, if they're part of the CUPS family then it's better for me. 😀
Well, a couple visits later and they got their CUPS sticker on the door. We're now a regular here and they are clearly becoming a local favorite very quickly. Aside from the espresso, the pastries are delicious as they source them from Ceci-Cela. They also offer bulletproof coffee if you want to try it.
I would have never expected someone could make coffee so rich and decadent, but it freaking exists. The bulletproof caramel latte. I haven't personally visited the cafe, but someone bought me a cup of this latte and it was sooo good. It's not something you can drink everyday because a) it's pricy and b) that combo of caramel and butter would probably kill you, but my god, it's definitely good. It sounds kind of gross, but if you wanna treat yourself, go get that latte.
I also got the chance to try one of their sandwiches, and it paled in comparison to my latte. They're kind of skimpy on their sandwich fillings. I had the prosciutto, arugula and mozzarella sandwich and the layers of meat and cheese was way too thin. I could barely taste the cheese. It didn't taste bad, but I was disappointed by how cheap they were. Other than that, I would stick with the coffee!
You know the gentrification in LIC is real when a café like Etto pops up amidst the never-ending construction of luxury buildings and high rises. As soon as you enter, you're greeted by the standard rustic coffee-house décor and chirpy baristas, typical of similar spots around NYC. My caffeine-loving co-workers have been thrilled since Etto opened, and it has been our routine 2:30pm coffee break spot. I'm not a huge fan of coffee, so I usually opt for the raspberry iced tea (which isn't the best, but reasonably ok considering that this spot is more known for their coffees). My co-workers enjoy their bulletproof selection a lot, which I would describe as hipster coffee with a slab of butter and some brain octane oil. I haven't had a chance to try out their pastries and sandwiches yet, but will update my review as soon I as do.
To my fellow workaholics who love working at cafés, there is limited bar seating against the wall with plenty of outlets and sunlight.
I stopped by here for coffee before heading to the airport this morning. My sister and her partner go here to get coffee it seems, and boy it was a good choice. Their caramel latte is perfectly done, I didn't even put any sugar at all. The guys are also very friendly and would make your coffee like they really care. I'd go back here in case I am in the area again.
Great cold brew. Bulletproof latte. Nutella croissants. Friendly staff. Latte art. Accepts credit cards. A short walk from my new work building. What more could I want? Probably just some seating, but then they'd have to actually kick me out.
part of the charm for this place is that it feels like a "find". as of june 2016, it's barely visible on a block that has construction going on nearby and scaffolding at the entrance. the barista was friendly, served me my iced coffee in a chilled glass, and let me sit a few minutes past closing without rushing me out. it's a small space, so it's not ideal for groups that want to sit and chat out loud, but it is a comfortable space to do work. i plugged in my laptop and parked myself on one of their stools for probably an hour and was able to concentrate.
