Nice people running this place, and quick pick up. They have a huge dining area for eat-in. Portions are large and the price is good for the Montclair area. I only wish the food was better. We've had it twice now and both times food was bland and not very memorable. It wasn't bad, just not great. It's one of those places I go to if I'm dying of hunger and feeling like eating hard core carbs and meat, but not one of my top choices in the area. If they can improve on some of their food, I wouldn't hesitate to order from them more often.
We've been ordering takeout from here quite a bit in the past few months and it's always great. I like it because it feels like you're indulging but realistically, many of their options are pretty healthy. I particularly like the grilled chicken (alone or with the garlic sauce, that stuff is amazing) and that's generally my go-to. A half size is huge and more than enough for one person, and at $9 you get two sides. I usually go for black beans, fries, or rice. We also had the pork and Portuguese sausage kabob once and liked that a lot. Delivery is really fast, as well as eating in.
I grew up in the Ironbound so Portuguese style barbeque is something I indulge in every so often. Naturally I allowed the four Yelp stars sway me towards Euro Barbeque and give them a try.
I went for the combo, half chicken and half pork ribs platter, which was sets you back $18. Pricey in comparison to other Portuguese barbeque spots. At least you get to choose two sides. The selections? Yellow or white rice, red or black beans, french fries, veggies, or a side salad. I skipped the yellow rice as per advice of a fellow yelper (thanks!), went with the french fries and black beans and I'm glad I did. My company ordered the yellow rice and offered a taste of it. Bland.
The chicken was really good and the pork ribs were overcooked and dry. I think the seasoning was good, however, too bad they burnt them to a dry crisp. Fries were okay and beans were missing a pinch of salt.
Good selection of drinks. They offer sumol and guarana. They do delivery which is great. For the price tag, though, I think you're better off somewhere else.
I've sampled everything here now, so I'm now in a position to write a review. The staff are all very friendly, and that goes a long way with me. The owner acknowledges everyone who comes in. I've eaten in and taken food to go several times. The best items on the menu are the BBQ Pork Ribs and BBQ Beef Ribs. They are a cut above any other Portuguese style BBQ you're going to find in Essex County. There's a well seasoned rub, making the meat delicious, tender and more like Southern BBQ with a textured crispy exterior to a juicy meat that falls from the bone, and there's a smokey flavor that will be the closest thing to Tennessee, Kansas City or Texas that you are going to find in NJ, despite other places that brand themselves specifically as being Southern Smoked BBQ.
The biggest surprise was the chicken empanadas. I expected them to be dry and disappointing. Not only are they juicy, but they exploded with secret depositories of Sofrito!!! I could eat nothing but these for dinner. Order at least one.
Perhaps it was a first time order's bad luck, but to my sadness the beef stew was the worst I've ever had. Rice was flavorless as another customer wrote, and beans were blah. What made the stew bad was the weirdly tasting sauce it was made in – like a burnt BBQ sauce gone wrong. The Caesar salad was good and the dessert being the besttt part: Serradura aka Sawdust pudding. Basically condensed milk and crushed biscuits that melt in your mouth and makes your taste huds jump for joy. I may choose the BBQ dishes next time and give it one more shot (for Serradura's sake). Almost forgot – delivery person was nice and the delivery was fast.
Looking forward to trying the rest of the menu but you can't go wrong with the grilled chicken breast or the chicken breast in garlic sauce (i could drink the sauce) some mixed veggies, rice, and beans. The plain grilled chicken had a nice marinade on it- definitely some paprika in there. Big portions and great value- 2 entrees with 2 sides each (delivered) was only $18. When I'm looking for a cheat meal I've got my eye on the beef/pork. Delivery was fast too; about 20 minutes.
Stumbled into this place while searching for food in Montclair during the deserted hours of 3pm-5pm. I've had Portuguese food in the past so I kind of knew what I was walking into. Awesome BBQ dishes and fairly large portions. That is exactly what I got when my plate arrived to the table. I ordered the BBQ pork ribs with rice and beans (as recommended by the waiter). I was unable to eat the whole plate due to my hungry self eating a chicken empanada as an appetizer and some complimentary bread. I wasn't a huge fan of the rice but the BBQ pork ribs were pretty good. The waiter was nice, though I feel he might have been new at the job from the way he carried himself (he looked a bit nervous and bot very confident). The food came out fairly quickly and the prices didn't hurt my pocket. I was not WOW'd enough to make it a priority to return to this place.
