  1. Pretty nice little diner that fills up during the morning but the servers are nice, quick and give you service.  Food is hot, fresh and tastes good just what the doctor ordered when you wake up and feel that need for some hot fresh breakfast.  Try some pancakes and eggs that are hot and fresh.

  2. Great little diner just off of Time Square.

First stumbled across this place around 10 years ago.  Have been coming back for breakfast when ever I've been in town, and it has never disappointed.

Breakfast is good – classic fare.  Service is prompt and efficient.

Pop by and you won't be disappointed!

  3. LOVE NY DINERS. Do not compare this to your upscale dining experiences, this is a diner, an old joint with fast (but not overly friendly) service.  The food was diner food, poatoes with too much grease/bbutter, good hot coffee that never stops, and great pics on teh wall of all teh movie stars that also ate there. Right off Times Square so the price is right. Yeah, you migh sit on crumbs and ketchup but that's what it's all about, right?

  4. If you're looking for the old diner feel, Evergreen is the place for you. The service was quick. We were seated and had our drinks within a few minutes. Our server came around regularly until we were ready to eat. The food arrived quickly after ordering. My wife got the California Omlette which was bland. Considering what's in it we were expecting a bit more flavor. I ordered the tried and true French toast with bacon. The toast was warm and the bacon was crispy. Maybe too crispy. Overall, it was a decent stop.

    Three Stars

While walking around the Macy Day Parade area, nothing was really open so we stopped in the Evergreen Diner. We sat at the counter and watched the parade on TV. I had two over easy eggs, home fries, bacon, and toast ($10). The food was as expected. The eggs were actually over easy. The home fries were not crispy, not seasoned, and not very big. The three strips of bacon were not worth the $3 increase charge. The toast was slathered in butter so I ate all of that. The coffee was good and strong.

  6. I've worked around the corner from Evergreen for years and yet only stopped in for the first time last week. Now, I'm making up for lost time.

This classic diner is a welcome haven in one of the more maddening parts of this city. It isn't too loud or crowded, the food and coffee are solid (with expectations managed), prices are relatively cheap, and the service is friendly.

What more could you want in a diner?

  7. We were in New York for a weekend getaway and needed some place to eat on Sunday morning. Because we're in staying in Midtown we found the Evergreen which was just a few minutes walk away.

When we walked in the place was packed, there were no seats available. The restaurant is fairly large as far as New York goes so it was a good sign to me that every table was filled. We were greeted immediately and after only a few minutes late our party of 6 was seated.

The staff was friendly, engaging, and seemed genuinely appreciative of our being there.  This is a diner in every sense of the word, from the variety of the menu, to be round stools and counter where patrons can sit.

We all ordered different items off of the menu, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal. The servers were quick to refill coffee and water, and the restaurant was clean.

The prices here were very reasonable especially in New York. When we go back to New York and if we stay in Midtown, we will certainly try this place again.

  8. From the outside looking in, Evergreen definitely does not look like a diner. But after you take a look at their menu, their selection is definitely on par. You can pretty much order whatever you want.

I went for the philly cheesesteak (which comes with fries). It was alright. If you're in midtown and you're craving a philly, then this will probably do the job. The sammie wasn't as big as I was expecting it to be. I've had bigger, better-tasting portions for a cheaper price at delis nearby, but I guess you're really just paying for the diner experience. I don't know of many diners in midtown so Evergreen might just be your only choice!
