I've been meaning to try this skewer place that opened a few months back. Most of the signage was in Chinese and Korean. This place was intimidating. Why go here when you can go to Minzhongle (they speak English there)? I say, adventure!
So the main thing you notice when you get seated is that no one speaks English. Your Mandarin or Korean better be decent, or bring someone along that speaks it. Me? Broken Mandarin with a lot of sign language. Once you get seated, you'll notice a service call button that's oh-so-familiar in Korean joints, and a really strange grill on the table with a rack. Apparently (as I found out along this foodie journey):
– They fill the bottom of the grill with charcoal.
– You are given raw skewers in which you pile them onto the grill on the bottom.
– Once you're done cooking it yourself, you place the skewers onto the top rack for cooling.
– Spice is given to accent your skewers. Gently row.
– They come by every once in a while to refill your charcoal.
– The plates they give you? It's for the salad. Put your empty skewers on the table. It's cool.
Now, the skewer review:
1. Beef kebab – probably the best tasting one. Hard to go wrong.
2. Squid – Don't leave them on the grill too long, it gets dry fast.
3. Chicken Gizzard – another one where you can't go wrong, unless you don't like gizzards.
4. Short rib – no meat, mainly cartilage.
5. Pork skin – roast it long enough and it'll taste like pork rinds.
6. Bull's Penis – Slimy, chewy, sticks to your teeth. No flavor, pretty gross. Now I know why no one eats penis.
Why all the bad reviews? I've been here many times and each time I was all happy with my skewers and the food we ordered
The service can be a bit spotty but we never had problems with the waiters. And they have the service button you can press right next to your table and they usually come in minutes
My favorite skewers here will be the chicken, lamb and the shrimp screwers. And it's fun to grill them you self and watch them rotate. And they give you this plate of seasoning that you dip ur skewers in..yum!
We also tried their bbq fish and their fish in spicy oil. Both were very good.
Overall a solid place. Will be back for sure
