I love Fig & Olive. Been fan of the midtown location in Manhattan. I was excited to hear that they opened up a location in Scarsdale/Eastchester. I came here for the 1st time recently for my sister in law's birthday brunch.
The place was pretty empty when we got there around 12PM, but it filled up very quickly. The food service was a bit slow, but granted, we were a large group.
The Bloody Mary had a nice kick and tasted fresh. I love the complimentary bread with the trio of various olive oils that they provide. This time around i was only able to distinguish 2 of the. Wish they were infused but they were your generic olive oils from different locations.
The prix fixe brunch is the way to go if you want to get value for your buck. The provencal carrot and thyme soup wasn't as sweet as i expected. It was actually quite warm and taste and soothing. The Grilled Thyme chicken Paillard was yummy and flavorful. The chicken was a tad dry but i think it is due to the fact that they use very thin tenderloins, so it can be overcooked quite easily. The dessert crostini was yummy. It was sweet and tart and crispy.
Def willing to come back for dinner.
Came with a groupon at 8:30 on a Wednesday night and it was packed!
The space is very visually appealing; a little on the loud side though.
We had friendly service and nothing took too long despite the crowd so that was a plus.
Started with the fig and walnut julep – absolutely delicious. I had to go for a second round later in the meal.
We shared the fig and gorganzola tartlette which was more like a salad with all the arugala; this wasn't a bad thing though as we both loved it.
For entrees we got the veal milanese and lamb chops. Both came with delicious sides (mashed potatoes, pesto fettucine) and the portions were generous. I really loved the crispy veal. Lamb chops were also good but we ordered medium rare and they came out more medium.
Dessert…another thing that hit the spot but the presentation was very odd. We got the chocolate pot de creme which came in this tiny little cup since it is so rich but then that cup is on a big plate with the mini hazelnut financiers all the way on the other end. It looked rather puny but as I said, it was very rich so it was the perfect amount.
I'd definitely come back.
A great dinner. All dishes were super nicely prepared and were beautifully presented.
Meh is the perfect word to describe my experience here.
So my friend bought the Groupon online, which comes with an appetizer to share, 2 entrees, a shared dessert and two drinks (under a certain price). I checked the menu beforehand like I always do bc I'm obsessed with food.
The place itself is great, with tons of parking since it's in the L&T lot. It has high ceilings a night atmosphere and a DJ (at least when I went).
Then everything sort of went down hill.
I thought it would be great we sat by the window more isolated and private, but it was all full of FRUIT FLIES. Like I saw at least 40 flies all around me. They were flying all over my wine glass, my face. I felt like Mr. Miyagi. Of course it doesn't help that the plants in front of the restaurant were rosemary.
And maybe this is mean to say, but I'll take the fruit flies over our server any day. And I'm not one to bash bad service for no reason, but shoot. I've been in the food industry for 14 years and worked as a server for almost half that time (cook, dishwasher, ice cream truck driver you name it), and I know bad service when I see it.
Like when you go down to dirty Chinatown, and you get rude servers, you expect them to be a certain way. You don't get mad. You know what you're walking into.
Well I expect a nice, pretty decently upscale type restaurant to have decent service.
Please do not NOT greet my table with a hi or hello. Instead, I got a "yeah, I recommend this entree, it's really good." It was just awkward. Then he comes back like 5 minutes later and drops some bread with olive oil. He literally blurted out in fast motion and walked away, I made him stop and repeat himself slower. And he mixed up the oils. Said the first one was more grassy, and then said the same one was more citrusy and the last one was grassy. Know your sh*t.
So I'm still polite of course, with pleases and thank yous. And I ordered the cheese sampler to try. It's really sad when he just drops it to our table. Not even a description, "here are your cheeses." something so simple. The cheeses were delicious, but it's really bad when we had to go online to guess which type of cheeses we were eating.
The lamb I ordered was delicious, cooked perfectly. The wine was nice and cold.
The bussers were AMAZING. My water was always full, and they were very polite and smiling. I even joked around with them and told them to wrap some crumbs home and they were like sure no problem! Even when we went to the restroom they folded our napkins neatly.
Then what pissed me off at the end is that the server ended up telling us that we HAD to tip the original amount and not the Groupon amount. He even circled the before amount on the paper. And we didn't even pay yet. How do you NOT know I wasn't going to do that? Instead you insulted me, didn't even give us great OR ok service and you're telling us this is how much we should tip. Just beware!
Sunday brunch on a rainy day – absolutely loved it. The brunch menu was perfect, we got to share a few small dishes and a salad, it was like tapas brunch. Everything was flavorful and fresh, good quality ingredients expertly prepared. The fig salad – definitely a favorite. The coffee was good and the service was impeccable. I would consider doing an event here, they have a large space in the back of the restaurant that would be perfect for large groups
Also, décor is great, love the flower bouquets and the dishes.
Came to Fig & Olive on a Sunday night to treat my best friend for an early dinner. I was definitely impressed by Fig & Olive. Dining at a storefront restaurant is really not my bag of chips, but, I am in Scarsdale… How bad can it can it be?
The restaurant is very ample and has plenty of seating. The bar as well, is brimming from wall to wall. The interior is natural with an "I'm-out-somewhere-in-the-fields"energy- which was cool. What I liked the most also, is that Fig & Olive counter-balances the softness of the decor, with something industrial, hip and funky. Some of their tables were just slabs of metal- which I was just digging.
Food was delicious. I ordered the lamb (which as cooked to perfection) in Rosemary skewers. I always enjoy a very well- seasoned lamb and Fig & Olive brought it. There was a small wrinkle towards the end, and felt a tad neglected from our server. Nonetheless, food was nicely done and my chocolate dessert was the bomb!
That decor is killer! I could picture myself having my bridal shower there. The food itself was pretty good actually. Was it the best ever? No, but it was good. The service was fast and knowledgeable. The pricing was a bit steep but that was expected. They had a good selection of dishes so we didn't have much problem trying to find something vegetarian. That chocolate pot de creme though – delicious. So rich and creamy. Love. I would go back to sample some more of their stuff!
I have been wanting to dine here for probably 5+ years. Tonight we finally did! I purchased a $65 groupon that was a 3 course meal for 2 people. Included was 1 appetizer (up to $19), 2 entrees (up to $36), 1 dessert (up to $12) and 2 drinks (up to $12). I had made a reservation for 6:30 and we arrived 6:40 (bc I'm never on time no matter how hard I try). We were seated right away and once seated I mentioned to the hostess that we had the groupon. She took my phone, redeemed the deal then brough over groups menu breaking down the deal.
When our friendly came over we order 2 glasses of the Malbec to start. I noticed that the appetizers few said $19 value but their crostini's are 3 for $11 or 6 for $20. I had asked him if we could order the 6 and pay the $1 difference but he told me no bc the system wouldn't allow it. So for our app Hubby and I opted for the Fig Gorgonzola Tartlette. I decided on the Filet Mignon and he had the Lamb Chop – both we requested Med/Rare. While we waited for our appetizer to come out our server brough us Rosemary Bread with 3 different oils infused with different herbs – Spanish, Italian, and Greek. Honestly, I didn't care for any of the olive oils and was a bit disappointed. The Fig Tartlette came out within a timely manor and was scrumptious. A good amount of time passed before we got our entrees so of course we ordered 2 more glasses of wine ($12 each). Like I mentioned walker both Hun y and I orders our meat Med/Rare. Neither of ours were actually cooked M/R. My Filet was more a medium, but it was so tender I didn't complain to my waiter. Hubs got 4 chops in total – 1 was M/R, 2 were medium and 1 was med/well. We found that kind of odd but he too liked his meal and didn't bother to say anything. For dessert we chose the Fig & Olive Tasting platter which came with: Dessert "Crostini", Chocolate Pot de Crème, Crunchy Praline & Panna Cotta. Hubby and I shared each one. My fav was the Crunchy Praline – omg amazing!! (we also had coffee which was $4 a cup but you get about 3 cups in the little pot). In total we had to pay an extra $40 not including tip.. I left very full and happy. Our server was wonderful and was always around whenever we needed him.
Would I return? Yes but only if I had another groupon! This restaurant is way too pricy for us. NYC prices in Westchester… Eh, not my ideal restaurant price wise, but I would def return.
