FIKA

“They made me a delicious americano (it's not on the menu officially but they make em, just ask) and I was also pleased about finding stevia sweetener available!”

“All the baked goods are intelligently designed to go with coffee so they are either crispy on the dry/shortbread side or flowing with chocolate/sweet nut richness.”

“Coffee is excellent, really roasty, goes down smoothly, tastes much better than Gregory's on the next block, and more interesting than Starbuck's in my opinion.”

  1. The only thing I'm upset about is discovering this place so late! It's awesome! The coffee is strong and tastes amazing. I got a latte one time too and it was so creamy and yummy! Really enjoyed it the first time and have been back a few times since!

  2. I like how it is not Starbucks but the matcha latte and chai latte that I like are too small and bland here.  Guess I'll be going back to Starbucks across the street.

  3. I've only had the chocolates here, but they were amazing. They're award winning(?) so you can expect them to be expensive, but when I want expensive chocolates I'm coming back here.

The one that sticks in my mind was their quinoa one. It sounds weird, but it's nutty and had a really good texture. A must try!

  4. Delicious espresso. Expensive – prices have gone up since my last visit. The real turn off was I walked in with a friend who was drinking Gregory's ice coffee (he was at the FIKA location just north prior to) and the barista railed into him for bringing an ice coffee from Gregory's into FIKA. It would have been "eh" funny if it was a 10 second comment but she proceeded to talk about it for a good 45 -50 seconds, which was pretty damn annoying. So long story short: good (albeit expensive) espresso. Annoying service.

  5. I'm surprised I never been to this place before. I popped into this place on my way to work, and I'm glad I did. I'm a big chi latte drinker, so I just had to try their rendition of it. It was actually really good! Which made it even better was how absolutely friendly the staff was. Love when my baristas make my day.

The place is small, so expect a line when you get in. The coffee is on the pricer side, like almost $5 for a chi latte, but well worth it if you're willing to spend a little more on good coffee. The concept and design of this place is clean and modern. They have a whole shelf of goodies and chocolates, which I had to force myself to resist.

Don't expect to stay and drink your coffee, since there's little seating. It's a grab your coffee to go kind of place.

  6. Their coffee or birch tree nectar: not sure which is better.

I grabbed a quick cup of joe with a friend in town and picked FIKA due to its proximity to my office. Seating is very limited, but we were able to snag a seat by the window.

My cappuccino was good and fairly standard for the area. The birch tree nectar was a different story. It was described to me as juice taken from a tap in a birch tree, which actually produce a lot of water. My elderflower enhanced refreshment was so interesting. Sweet, sour, and floral, it's quite the Scandinavian-import treat!

Next time I think I'd check out their chocolate selection as I think they might be a little more well known for that.

  7. Enjoyable iced coffee that didn't need much milk or sweetener, just added a little bit of agave and skim milk. Better than the Bucks for sure.

  8. Really excellent coffee! I am a devoted "Americano" drinker, and I had one from here today and it was …. BETTER than starbucks (Gasp!). I have an emotional attachment to starbucks, but its true. The americano was just better. Super smooth, tasted delicious. And only $2.30.

The guy behind the counter making the drinks was great, very fast, and really nice!

We also tried the little chocolate balls, I tried the whisky flavor, really interesting! Perfect afternoon snack.
