  1. Wow!  Fillmore's Tavern is a hidden gem in this part of Queens.  I went with four guys and it was everybody's first time here.  It's located in a super residential area and from the outside seemed like it would be kind of empty.  We entered and for a weeknight this place had tons of people!  Service is friendly and the food is pretty good.  Wings were great, a little sweet and spicy but not overly either.  Definitely go for their steak which comes sizzling on a plate.  The crust is good enough that it's crispy yummy and comes with two sides.  I ordered the meatloaf which seemed to me more like Salisbury steak.  Portions were good and wasn't too bad but like I said the real winner is the steak.  Burgers are great as well in addition to their sweet potato fries which are steak life fries but cut with waffle marks!  Not too many beers on top but they have my beloved Blue Moon and Angry Orchard.  Will definitely come again.

Also, the menu has two prices.  The cheaper one is if you pay in cash versus credit card.

  2. Fillmore's was quite interesting indeed. From the outside it looked very quiet, but the moment you find yourself down the walkway to the door, its a PARTY! Rowdy Sports Bar atmosphere.

Drinks: Pricey at $7.25 a beer
Food: Price is decent. Around $13-15 a dish with a side. Sherpards Pie was good. Meatloaf was better. Fries and Onion Rings WAY over-fried, but it brought back nostalgia of grade school lunches.

What to expect. Fun place. ALL foods are frozen foods.

  3. Did not know about this place until one of my school buddy took me here. Lots of history with the Fillmore Tavern like 102 years old. Taken these two paragraphs from the About Us page on their website.

"Fillmore's original 2 story structure fronting 65th Avenue was built in 1912 as a tavern. The area was called "Kerosene Heights" by the locals because it was the last neighborhood in Flushing to be electrified.

In 1913 a sitting room was added to the rear of the building. This room was set up as a bus depot and was used by women and children waiting for the bus that traveled along Nassau Blvd., now the LIE from Long Island City to Lake Success."

Now, on to the ambiance- What a treasure? It's like cheers, where everyone knows one another. Saturday night football and it's the Pittsburgh Steelers versus the Bengals. 5+ TV screens in the bar area. Eyes glued onto the game as everyone waited with baited breath for the Pittsburgh Steelers to Win and advance on.

The food. This is not your ordinary tavern, pub nor bar type of food. They really make delicious food.

The Shepherd's Pie just warms and fills you up for their hearty ingredients on a cold night.

Got a little crazy with the Twisted Ice Tea- That stuff is addicting.

Will be back for their wings and blackened steak.

  4. Lets start off with talking about the service and how slow it was. Definitely needs improvements there

Bbq wings was a bit too saucy but overall the place provides you the satisfaction if you have a wing craving.

  5. My parents raved about this place, so I guess my expectations were super high when I finally stumbled in here on a Friday night for dinner. Don't get me wrong, the food isn't bad, but the place itself is a little less than I expected.

Our waitress was friendly enough, but as I walked from the bar into the back dining area I started to feel slightly turned off by the place. I mean, I expected a small seating area but there were about three empty tables that we passed on our way to our table that were full of half eaten food, that the bus boy or wait staff didn't bother cleaning off. It just kinda skeeved me out.

So we order our food and drinks, no problem there. The burger that was supposed to change my cousin's life definitely fell short, as did the Shrimp Po Boy that I ordered. My thought when I first walked in was OK, this is a dive but maybe the food is amazing…yeah…No.

Then we order a burger to go and the waitress totally screws up the order for a medium rare burger that we waited 20 minutes for. Which I think she forgot to put the order in, in the first place.

The bar area seemed pretty lively though, and from the looks of the menu they have specials and happy hour almost every night. I'm still undecided about this place. I may just give them one more shot to redeem themselves.

    Stay tuned…

  6. Was driving through the LIE in heavy traffic. Saw this place pop up on the GPS and decided to stop for lunch.

Entrance is kind of hidden and we tried several doors to the building before finding the right one at the end of an unmarked passageway.

It was mostly empty on a Saturday morning. We ordered nachos, which were surprisingly good. Lots of cheese and loads of what tasted like chili poured over the chips. Much better than expected. The roast beef sandwich, however, was not so good. Incredibly bland tasting roast beef with absolutely no flavor at all. Large portions though. Reasonable price.

We came here because it just happened to be on the way and we were tired of sitting in horrible traffic, but probably won't be returning here again.

  7. Really happy with this place. We all went here as a Christmas celebration and the food and drinks were great! I had the Jack Daniels Pulled Pork Sandwich with a Lemonade (forgot the name of it but it was a lemonade version of a Long Island Iced Tea). Everyone else ordered different items that all look and smelled great. We even split dessert which was a warm brownie with a scoop of ice cream and whipped cream. Delicious! Staff was friendly and extremely helpful and the atmosphere is really interesting. It has a home feeling with a lot of character. I believe it used to be a trolly stop back in the day. Anyway it's a great place to go and I will be going back soon!

  8. Most everything here is surprisingly delicious and bigger in portion than you would think.

Try their wings, one of my favorites. Also their burgers. For about $10-15, you can get away with a very satisfying meal.

A real gem to the Fresh Meadows area!
