Truly amazing bbq.
First time here and it was decent. I was in an odd mood for BBQ and it's obvious I wouldn't have satisfied my needs living in NJ, but it's worth a try.
Came here around 7ish on a Friday night and the bar was a little packed. Divey kinda place with some locals. The bar is centered in the middle of the place with two different dining areas to the left and right side. I guess if you didn't have reservations, you were seated to the left and reservations were to the right.
Anyway, the staff here wasn't as enthusiastic as I would image being at a place like this. I sorta expected the waiters to be more lively. Regardless they were ok…? Not overly nice but not rude. Sorta just…ok.
The food all looked delicious. My husband got the pit sampler, I got the pulled pork with a side of fries, and our friend got the half order of ribs. Our food came out at a fairly decent wait time. I can't speak for my husband and my friend but the pulled pork I had was good. Just good. Oddly enough I thought the pulled pork at Mighty Quinn's was better. They sorta burnt a little bit of the pork making some of it hard to chew but the flavor was great. The seasoned fries was really just seasoned fries…nothing home made or anything special. It really wasn't worth the extra couple of bucks.
I can't say much about the decor cuz nothing was really that impressive. It was dark inside and sorta gives you the feel of a motorcycle gang hanging at this place. The parking sucks but we got lucky as we were able to get a spot right across the street.
Anyway, not sure I'd come back here. The total bill came out close to 70 for three entrees, 1 Sprite, and 1 Sam Adams. For that price we should've ordered the carnivore for 4 which was around $62 and we would've been able to sample a bunch of different types of meat.
I came here on a Friday night with a girl friend a few weeks ago. It was decently busy, but by the time we left around 11pm or so it was emptying out a bit. It was also an older crowd of mostly men, which I wasn't expecting. I was expecting a younger mix, but it wasn't really why I was there anyway. The food was amazing. As I'm sure everyone else has written you must try the corn souffle. I had the fried chicken sliders which were also amazing. Super friendly staff, very welcoming owner. Solid choice in the area.
Solid BBQ but certainly found some BBQ foibles.
Ordered two entrees to share with my sister.
I ordered the Brisket platter with Cole Slaw & the Corn Souffle, and my sister had the Carving Board Lunch Special which consisted of a Cornish Game Hen, Beef Rib, Cole Slaw, Root Vegetables, and Mashed Potatoes.
What I ordered:
Brisket was nicely flavored; really nice smoke and seasoning but unfortunately dry and very lean….dare I say a little chewy at times. DIdn't taste all that fresh.
Brisket was sauced as well, which I generally don't like but the sauce was nice with a strong vinegar flavor.
Cole Slaw was very good; a nice bit of tartness and just enough creaminess from the mayonnaise.
Corn Souffle was awesome! Very unique dish with sweetness from the corn, soft & fluffy interior which was also buttery rich for the better.
The other order:
Beef Rib was okay. Again nice smoke flavor but not too tender and a tad stringy; making me think it may have been sitting a little too long in the warming tray or under a heat lamp. It was a lean beef rib too.
Cornish Game Hen was excellent. Chicken was moist and the seasoning was so nice, especially the sweet honey glaze on the chicken skin which helped crisp the exterior. This and the Corn Souffle was the best two elements of the meal.
Root Vegetables were solid, but they're root veggies, so not much to expound on.
Mashed Potatoes were very good too and made to a style I like which is not too smooth (no purees!).
Maybe visiting during a weekday lunch contributed to some of the freshness issues I mentioned above, but if you offer to serve the food, it should of equal quality.
Left with mixed opinions; some really nice elements, but overall a tad disappointed.
Get your butts over to Fink's for some awesome BBQ! Everything tastes great, from the various types of perfectly cooked meat to the homemade tasting sides. The corn souffle is creamy and delicious! The beer cheese appetizer is just as expected, a perfect starter. When you walk in, you see the bar, and to the right is seating. Extremely friendly wait staff, everything came out quick and correct. I went with a few people so we tried a bit of everything. Ribs, chicken, greens, mashed potatoes, corn and that beer cheese app. Everyone loved their meals. A great BBQ place in a small town in Jersey? Who would have thought. Get over there and get your BBQ on!
I am so thankful for Yelp and finding Fink's BBQ Smokehouse! Just the smell when you walk into the restaurant will make your mouth water. I was so excited to try this BBQ place. When you walk in, the bar is the first thing you see. It looks divey, but fun, and has lots of TV's. We sat in the restaurant portion of Fink's.
Our server was very nice and asked if we had any questions regarding the menu. My husband went crazy and ordered the Pit Sampler, which consists of Spareribs, Chopped Beef, and Pulled Pork. I opted for 2 sliders – the Pulled Pork and BBQ Hash with a side of the ever talked about Sweet Corn Souffle. It was nice that I could substitute the corn souffle for the fries for just $1.00 extra. All of the food was absolutely delicious! BBQ and smokey and a little sweet and just wonderful. The pulled pork slider won over my BBQ hash slider, as that one seemed just a tad dry, but I'm glad I tried it. The corn souffle was amazing, like nothing I've tasted before. My husband's pit sampler came with an ample amount of BBQ meat and he enjoyed all of it.
I'm so happy to have found a good BBQ place for the area. Does it compare to the South Carolina BBQ I had at Hometeam BBQ? No. But for the area, it is definitely top notch. When my BBQ craving kicks in, Fink's is definitely the place I'll go!
Oh my goodness I cannot rave about this place enough! My boyfriend and I have tried it twice and we daydream about it constantly! Their appetizers are so diverse and delicious! They have these bbq meat lollipops that are so very tasty-called Texas Lollipops. Definitely try them if you're coming for a meal! I believe both times we came, we got the "pit sampler" entree and split it. It is plenty of food for 2 people, especially if you have an appetizer or two first! We also absolutely love the spicy collard greens side, they are so spicy and so unique and delicious! Oh god and their corn souffle side, it's so so so yummy! My boyfriend is ALL about bbq. I never really was but this place is so good, so out of the ordinary. I love a good traditional rack of ribs but I feel that this place goes beyond that and really adds a lot of character and flavor into their bbq!
Came in for lunch today. Food was good as always but not too keen on the service. The bartender is not very attentive. It takes a long time to get her attention and it's not even busy.
