  1. I was there last year for Valentine's Day, they had a fixed menu that was very diverse, but the food just make you feel stuffed and it didn't have like a good quality…some sauces for the pasta seemed to be from a Ragú can to the plate. The staff was friendly and very talkative though. They can do better.

  2. This restaurant probably hasn't been redecorated since MTV was invented…you'll want to spray your hair with aqua net and step out of your delorean before you walk down stairs.

However, do not be discouraged by the empty fish tank.  The food was actually good.  As soon as we were seated we got a bread basket and a complimentary plate of appetizers.  Olives, salami, peppers and Parmesan cheese – it was a nice treat.  We ordered mozzarella as our appetizer (so fresh and fluffy!)

For dinner we tried the pappardelle with mushrooms and the chicken scarparella with artichokes.  The dishes were good, creamy and filming.

Overall, if you can bear the vintage decor, the food is good and servers are attentive.

  3. There is truly nothing like an Italian restaurant in a Basement, in the Financial District.  These are the official and rare breeds of service, food, complementary accents to your meal that is a dining experience to marvel at.

As soon as you sit, you are greeted by a friendly and professional staff bearing a plate of salami, cheese, olives and peppers.  It is all so fresh and tasty and easy to fill up on-so be careful that you save room for the entree.  The olives and peppers are glazed with olive oil and the cheese is enough to fill your hands with.

Then they the bring bread.  The big delicious basket full of different breads and crackers that is so plentiful, it makes it super difficult not to un-button your pants.

The specials of the day are read which make your decision so damn difficult because not only are all of the daily specials ranging from Black Squid Linguine, Broccoli Ravioli with shaved Ricotta, Pan seared Tuna, etc. etc. all mouth watering-but the menu yields nothing short of fantastic choices.

Lots of great Italian Red wine, which in my opinion is essential to a great Italian dining experience.

All in all, Fino provides you with an Italian dining experience done the right way.  Love this place; i come all the time & will continue to do so!

  4. The ambiance was extremely friendly and positive during my visit here, but the food quality and delivery wasn't exceptional.

There was a prompt greeting by staff members when we entered the restaurant.  They quickly checked our coats and had us seated at our table.

Our server was extremely upbeat and took great pride in delivering the specials and other menu items to choose from.  As a gluten free customer, I asked that they be sure that all my selections be wheat free and that the kitchen be consulted on my condition.  After notifying them, I was told that there was gluten free pasta available and that any gluten free items would be kept separate in the dining process.

I ordered a salad and their "twin" filet special.  The salad was good.  The filet came out with a pale, thick gravy on it.  I asked about the wheat content of the gravy and was assured by the wait staff that it didn't contain wheat.  However, the side effects of my order proved otherwise after the visit as my sensitivity doesn't allow for error.

Aside from the unpleasantness, the food was lackluster.  The filet had a large quantity of connective tissue in it that made it more chewy than tender, and more difficult to chew and swallow.  Some pieces were so tough I ended up choosing not to attempt to swallow in fear that someone would need to give me the Heimlich maneuver.

The service was high quality throughout the meal and was extremely friendly and attentive.

A good experience for the service, but a poor one for the food quality.

  5. Take a flight of stairs and walk into a very quiet desolated room with 70's furniture and you have walked yourself into Fino.

Came here with the company and while I probably wouldn't have come here had it not been for work – I would definitely come here again just for their food.

We started off with a ginormous amount of appetizers. Firstly they brought a platter of salami, olives and pickled pepper along with some really good cheese and bread, breadsticks, etc.

then my colleague ordered an antipasto sampler which consisted of everything on their appetizer section. im not so sure if they have a sampler as such that we ordered. I have a suspicion that he just ordered everything and made an antipasto sampler out of it.

as for the main course – I ordered the broiled veal chops from their charcoal grill. and BOY! just for this broiled veal chops, I would come back to Fino ANY DAY! I was already stuffed from all the appetizers but man, when my main course came – I just couldn't put my fork down.

the veal was made JUST right! I had it medium rare. The cut had a bit of fat which allowed the meat to be tender. The flavors with each bite was just so amazing. marinated to PERFECTION with slight char on the side. Reliving the veal is making me salivate.
