Yes, the drinks and food prices will make you do a double take, but you're paying for the beautiful atmosphere and choice views of New York's most popular lady, the Statue of Liberty! My party of 4 had a blissful Sunday cruise on the ship. Minimal crowds, excellent 1.5 hr ~free~ ride, some stiff cocktails, and lots of pictures for Instagram- I'd say we had a very good time! I would say we got a better view of the Statue of Liberty than on the Staten Island ferry. While we stayed on the lowest floor, I would recommend the top deck which would give you a better view of everything and they have projectors showing the olympics!
We got the charcuterie, calamari and fries which surprisingly filled us up. I got the Aphrodite named drink which was sweet and full of pomegranate flavor. Don't forget to check into Yelp for free champagne! 4 stars because of slow service and average tasting food, otherwise this would have been a definite 5 star venue!
I love this place for it's views, reasonable prices and free admission. My biggest problems with this place are at times it seems the wait staff will forget about your order. I've been on the boat twice and neither time has the boat been overly crowded. If you order fries for example and have to wait 45 minutes apologize and get some out immediately since the ride is only an hour and a half long. Telling your customer, "sorry" while en route to other customers without any effort to rectify the situation isn't a good look.
Also, my GF and I had went once before and saw on a menu that the Sangria was $12. Well she ordered 2 and when we recieved the bill they were $16 a piece. When we went to point out to the bartenders they said "No, all cocktails are $16." Now of course this is when we were docking so they had took up all the menus.
This past Saturday we went again and the Sangria was rung up as $12!!!! We asked the bartender are they always $12 and he said "YUP!" Now, I know it was only $4 per drink and we didn't pay to get on the boat but scamming to get an extra couple dollars off of people who you think may be too intoxicated is not good business practice. An extra $8 from two wrongly priced sangrias on top of gratutity equals another drink! You just walk away feeling robbed.
You do get great views but I've been on 4 yachts in NYC, customer service is something that separates you from the rest. One thumb up over here
If you are looking for a nice dinner experience this is not the place for you. The service is horrendous. The food is lacking flavor for the prices they charge. My family and i were seated at the first table in front of the hostess stand and we were completely ignored. It took over 20 minutes for them to even bring water. Then when we got our server we ordered a 65 dollar bottle of rose which the waiter took 20 mins to come and tell us they didnt have. So when we had chose another it took another 20 mins and he came back with the bottle we originally ordered. 40 mins to get our wine and we were already served our food. We ordered the meat and cheese platter, Mediterranean risotto, Arancini, plymouth rock oysters, jumbo lump crab salad, and fried calamari. First off the waiter didnt even know the menu. He didnt know anything i was ordering until i pointed it out to him on the menu. The only thing that was good from what we ordered was the meat and cheese platter! Oh and the fried peppers that came with the fried calamari. We then ordered the skirt steak which 25 mins later did not get and the waiter just came to ask us. Since we were already back at the dock we cancelled. It was a 2 hr boat ride! How long does it take to cook a skirt steak rare? Never again. If i ever go back it would be for the free boat ride! Next time i will go to north river boat at least there's better seafood!!!
Wonderful! A great event space with wonderful views of the harbor on their daily sails. Drinks and food are a but pricy, but not unexpected- this is a really great summer pastime that I hope will stay secret! The top deck is open with comfy couches and a bar; the second tier is the restaurant, and the lowest deck is more seating area for drinks. A great place to bring a group of friends, with no admission price to sail. Will be coming back for a classy night out with the girls!
We were so pleasantly surprised by this place! We figured most of the money we were spending was on the novelty of riding around the Hudson, but then the food came and it was awesome! This review is for a weeknight dinner in the full-service dining room.
Despite some early hiccups (server didn't know much about wine, they served us ice cold bread, and then overly toasted bread when we asked for warm bread), we had an excellent time. The service was friendly and attentive – maybe too much so, they kept trying to take our plates!
Burrata was a delicious start to the meal, though there was no discernible black truffle flavor. Just some great cheese with tomato and some sort of herb oil. The octopus was charred and lovely, so tender. We all loved it. The scallops were awesome too, though I think the preparation is different from the online menu. It had a mashed white bean or something.
The star of the show was the black linguine. All the seafood was well cooked, as was the pasta, and the sauce was great. Nice chunks of lobster, and flavorful little cockles. I could eat this forever.
Overall, a lovely dinner, and the 3 of us were out of there, with four dishes and a bottle of wine, for $50 each before tip. I'll take it! Highly recommend for girls' night out.
I really enjoyed this free cruise! No admission fee. You just hop on and take a beautiful ride down to the WTC/Statue of Liberty and back up. Total time is about two hours. My friend and I were meeting up to catch up but missed the 6:00pm North River Lobster Co. Cruise. Thankfully we discovered this one!
I believe the Fish Bar yacht is owned by the same people as North River Lobster, however this one is definitely the fancier upscale newer version. Drinks were reasonably priced too. Beers average around $8 and cocktails about $12. Food is a bit pricy but we enjoyed our Calamari ($18). I asked about drink specials but bartender said "not today".
I enjoyed it and plan on returning. I must say the yacht was pretty empty on a beautiful Wednesday evening. I know they just opened a few weeks ago but whoever is in charge of marketing is not doing a very good job. No one knows about this place! We pretty much had the top of the yacht to ourselves for much of the ride. I think better marketing and good happy hour deals would get more traffic through the door. The only thing I like more about North River Lobster are their great drink specials! Either way, I'm coming back to the beautiful sunset ride. Loved it.
Move over lobster boat, there is a new ship in town. I went on a Thursday evening and had a wonderful time. The Fish Bar is 3 levels with a lounge/bar area on the ground floor, sit down dining on the 2nd and a open bar deck on the 3rd. My group stayed on the upper deck. The upper deck is spacious with comfy lounge seating, full bar and a huge TV screen. They had the Yankee game on which was another plus.
Service: There are not enough words to express how great our service was. Zaira, our hostess was amazing. She was friendly, personable and kind, going above and beyond to ensure that we had a great time. The boat was busy and Zaira did an excellent job of taking care of everyone. Service can either make or break your experience regardless of how amazing the view around you might be. Even if the ship was docked, and it was raining, I would definitely go back to see Zaira. She really made our evening all the more special.
Food: The menu offers fun summer concoctions and small plates that follow the seafood theme. My group and I had the calamari and the hummus. I was not impressed with the calamari, it lacked flavor and basic seasoning. The hummus platter was delicious. All of the food was beautifully presented.
Price: Prices are very reasonable, considering you are getting a free cruise with amazing views of the city I really can't see why anyone would complain about prices.
I really hope they can keep this boat on the DL, I appreciate how its not crowded, casual and chill unlike the Lobster Boat that's a constant mob scene. If you're looking for something fun and different to do after work, the Fish Bar at North River Landing is not to be missed.
