The food here is great! Gets pretty busy but the line moved fast when I came here for lunch with a friend. The portions are huge (great for sharing many dishes!).
When you get in, you need to put your name down (there's usually a person with a clipboard that records how many people are in your party). However, everyone in your party must be present in order to be seated!
Try the seafood pancake!
Evoke your five sense, although taste might prevail.
I'm still checking places off my Ktown list and Five Senses was my target last night. We were lucky to arrive when we did because we got a table immediately and the next three parties had to wait 15-20 minutes.
The menu was a little overwhelming to be honest. You have appetizers, BBQ, soups, rice dishes, stir fry, casseroles, steamed dishes, specialties, and the list goes on. We couldn't figure out what to eat for the life of us. We finally settled on the steamed short ribs for two.
The banchan came out next. I don't know why, but I just wasn't a big fan of the small dishes. The kimchi wasn't sour enough and was too spicy. We also got a sausage dish which was pretty plain. The fried tofu had no flavor. The sesame oil cauliflower could've been a bit stronger. The kimchi zucchini was the only redeeming dish, although that was even a bit too salty.
The short rib was however quite tasty. The server cut them up into smaller pieces, making it easier to eat with rice. It was a bit sweeter than I was expecting, but the soy sauce based braise was a good compliment to the rice. It reminded me a lot of what my mom might spend all afternoon cooking at home. The accompanying carrots, radishes, egg, and rice cakes made for good variety.
The best part of the meal was the value. We ordered that one dish and it came with free refills of the banchan and (basically) unlimited rice. For the price of a single entree, we left feeling stuffed. While not my favorite spot in town, Five Senses gets a thumbs up.
In their madly efficient way of maximizing their turnover rate of patrons, they require you to have all your guests present before you are placed on a waiting list. Thankfully the wait wasn't too bad. A table for three was about a 30-45 minute wait?
Their signature kimchi fried rice was on point. But then again, cheese on anything makes everything. In terms of the other stuff my friends and I ate, it's tough to judge.
We basically ate fried and fatty things, so it's bound to be good. It sure was.
But we needed our 3 mile walk afterwards to help ourselves digest afterwards.
Great Korean restaurant in Koreatown.
Ambiance is bright and bustling but very loud, which is okay for the communal seating. Love that they "wall" your space off at the table with a little arrangement of artificial flowers!
Service is amazing, especially since it is so busy! Our food and drinks came out quickly, and though it took a couple tries to get the servers attention, water and beer refills came out instantly.
The bulgogi and the dol sat bibimbap were excellent! Good portions at a very reasonable price.
Very good experience!
I came here after hearing about it from friends and I really liked it. The hosts were really nice, and though your whole party has to be present to be seated, we got a table right away. I had the bibimbap, which isn't the best I've had in the city (somehow, aside from Kyo-Chon, all the chicken dishes I've had in Koreatown have been seriously subpar), but it was not bad by any means. Our server was a really friendly middle-aged lady. We had a great time. I was wearing shorts and my sweaty legs got stuck to the booth, which was kind of gross. But other than that, this place was a gem.
For some, this may be apples and oranges, but I liked this place way better than BCD Tofu House. Smaller, more intimate, and friendlier all around.
Very clean and excellent service in the middle of Koreatown! Food is simply so tasty and really good!!!
Lunch menu is long and with lots of choices!
We had:
– Bi bim bap: good taste but definitely after having tried several times this dish, I could say that it is not for me. Although I must say that this one was among the best I've ever eaten. We chose the one with hot stone.
– Jap chae: so so good! I chose it with tofu and it was smooth and tender! Glass noodles were very well cooked and it came with plenty of veggies.
– La Galbi rib eye: amazing! Came in a hot stone, meat super tasty and juicy! It came with a soup (doenjang chiggae)
I will definitely come back!!!
Dol Pan Kimchi Bokum Bap with chicken… Enough for two to share, rich, filling, beautiful sight! My better half had a similar dish with Octopus served on a sizzler plate, and we also got the grilled Tiger shrimp. Great meal, efficient service but a tad expensive.
Got the bulgogi ddukbaegi which is the second item on their lunch menu. It comes in a soup with bean sprouts and noodles. Super filling and the soup is so flavorful. It comes with a bowl of rice which I saturated with the soup. Mom ordered the same thing as me and put her rice directly into the broth. The meat was tender and so well made. Very flavorful and they are quite generous with the amount of bulgogi they give you
Extremely fast service and I thought it was funny how everyone greets you when you enter the store. Pretty cute and a very clean restaurant with cute little sunflowers to decorate the tables. Music was a little bit too loud though. Overall good place for lunch if you're looking for a quick meal and great Korean food
