I've been going here for about a year and a half since I'm in the neighborhood for work every couple months and it's the only place that I've found actual vegetables (all the other spots are pizza, chicken, and maybe falafel). The collards and the cabbage are both absolutely excellent and I often make a meal out of them since they're so flavorful, though I'd love to see some vegetarian proteins such as beans or tofu, like other Caribbean restaurants do. I've also only seen meat patties here so a vegetable patty seems like an easy starting point.
During my most recent visit, the staff seemed really confused about the pricing of lunch plates so it took a long time to make my order and they ended up giving me callaloo instead of collards (which I said I'm okay with), which they then scraped off the plate because it was a different price point. Weird. The veggies were $5 for a large plate and it would have been $7 with the callaloo.
Keep serving up the veggies and please consider adding more!
Solid carribean/jamaican food
Highlights:
As the name say, Flavor/flava is where they place shines. Can't go wrong with any of the main dishes thought recommend starting with the JERK. Incredible spice, and spiciness. Curry, bbq, oxtail all with distinct and rich rich rich flava. Portions are also extreme: small combo with two sides is enormous, 2 meals for most, though not ME of course.
Sides:
Also rich and heavy, best served drenched in the sauce the main dish comes in. Collard greens, stewed veggies, white rice, dirty rice and bean…all good picks really, just depends what kind of mood you're in.
Downside:
Chicken can be a bit dry, but its far outweighed by the rich flavor that the meat is drenched in.
OVERALL: flava flava
