I hate writing reviews like this but I am hoping the owners will read it and take the feedback to be the restaurant I know they can be. We arrived and it is a little restaurant in a strip mall. The server was friendly and we were seated quickly. The server highly recommended the oxtail and seemed pleasantly surprised that we were familiar with Filipino cuisine. He expressed his regret that the pork ssig was sold out – before dinner service? We were there at 5! This was disappointing but we ordered the fried chicken for our kids, the oxtail and fish ssig. A few minutes later we were told the oxtail was also sold out. This is the major basis fork review. The two dishes we wanted were both sold out before dinner service really begun and one was "sold" by the server. There was definitely a lag in service at this point but not to the point if dissatisfaction.
So what we got was fish ssig, fried chicken, adobo chicken and long si log. Not bad. Good flavors. Bet what was sold out would rock. They obviously know how to cook, just not how to run a restaurant. You should never be sold out of the two most traditional dishes before dinner service. I'll try again and hope my review changes!
This place might just be our new Filipino spot ! They haven't had the Grand opening just yet and they are still working on a few things but we enjoy it very much . If you are in the east Brunswick or New Brunswick area stop in for a bite .
I would have given this place 4-stars but I have to take away a 1/2 star for a couple of reasons.
We ordered the chicken adobo, pancit, pinakbet, and chicken tinola. The hostess says that a dish can feed 3-4 people and for the tad-expensive prices, I would have liked to believe it but it's more like 1-3 people. She was also pushing hard on selling the sizzling bopis (both the pork and fish version).
The taste of everything was very good but the food takes a while to come out. They say it's because everything is cooked from scratch but the boneless chicken adobo was a little on the hard-side (result of probably being cooked high and fast instead of low and slow) and the chicken in the tinola was also not as tender as I would have liked. I think there might also be a chinese ingredient in the adobo dish because I've had chinese dishes with this ingredient before but I don't know what it's called but it's still very good.
Couple of things to be aware is that the hostess did mention from the start that they're in the process of upgrading their menu and adding more items because the menu was definitely very limited and they didn't have bbq on it, and it seems to be space-y inside but there's no double-doors so depending on where you sit, you can feel a gust every time that door opens.
I was on my way home and passing by the area ready for dinner so I found this place on Yelp. I would probably eat here again but only if they get more on the menu because I like a variety and like to order food that I can't make at home easily.
I really wanted to like this place, since it is a unique and interesting addition to the Central Jersey food scene. However, the food and service left us wanting.
We ordered the vege rolls, beef calderata, and to silog. The beef was mediocre, but I appreciated the savory sauce of the stew. The to silog on the other hand, was very low on seasoning, save for the immensely sweet sausages that came with the dish.
Servers were friendly, although we had to try to grab their attention multiple times throughout the meal. In a half empty restaurant space, I found this confusing.
Hope others will have a better dining experience!
