A decent burger joint located inside Bloomingdales? Somebody pinch me. Yes, its true, you can actually get a pretty great burger, customized however you want while you shop, well, I guess while you take a break from shopping. I've actually been here a couple times, and the burger of the day is usually my choice. With a variety of burger types, including a short rib burger, choices of bread and toppings, you really can't go wrong.
And the fries, oh the fries. They are the little thin cut McDonald's style and are excellent. If this place was on a regular old street corner, it might be slightly less great, being that there are other options around, but inside a department store, you cant really beat it. I dont think I would ever come here if I wasn't in the store, but when I go back to the bloomingdales to get my watch adjusted, I'll be sure to have dinner here…
This was easily the best "free" burger I have ever had (thanks to the neat promo mentioned by other Yelpers). However, if you factor in the 15 minute wait, slow service, and that regular patrons have to pay $19 for this burger – you might start seeing things differently.
As far as my order of the Eastern Burger goes, the lamb patty was blended with spices to give it a nice kick. However, it was unable to overshadow the dry texture and overall lack of flavor (and sauce). The burger used naan flatbread, yet instead of being a novelty, it made the burger look small. The burger was being swallowed by a piece of oversized flatbread!
Overdone, overpriced. Never again.
We stopped in for a quick lunch during a break and were seated immediately. It was rather empty around 11:45, but did start filling up after 12. My veggie burger was a Dr. Praeger burger which I can't complain about since I love those. I had it on top of a Caesar salad, which was a surprisingly good combination. The coffee was also excellent and they actually frothed the milk that came with it! The chubby fries were pretty good, as well, and had a nice, crispy shell. Service was decent and the food came out pretty quickly.
Best burger I have ever had. Don't come to NYC and miss this place. You get to choose you protein. I had the short rib burger. It was perfectly seasoned and cooked. It was so juicy. I also had a section of toppings and breads. It was with the $12.00 price.
So I did the little promo for my free burger. Who doesn't love free food?? It's worth getting a $16 for free but otherwise, nothing special. I also should preface this review by saying that I don't eat red meat so my view of good burgers are skewed. However, for my sistahs and brothas who love dem turkey burgers… read on.
The Zorburger was good- it def. was cooked a bit on the rarer side which I appreciated. It's not your average turkey burger with cranberry sauce (though I have zip zero complaints about that style-so thankgivingly yummy) but instead done plain with some feta cheese, a pickle and brioche bun. The bun could have been a bit more grilled; and but the pickle was done nice and crispy. The feta cheese was really a good touch and I would have never put two and two together.
The salad that came on the side was very so so. The dressing (which I presume is mainly olive oil and lemon juice- I know cause this is my fave combo) was delish. But the lettuce quality (iceberg, blahhh) is was baad. And my FAVORITE thing of all time in a Greek Salad- a graph leaf was as stale as shit. Tasted my cardboard not the gooey rice I like to call home.
All in all, great free burger. Great $16 burger? Meh. Prolly not. I'm good with Better Burger NYC. I tend to think mostly everything food wise at Bloomie's is average but with high prices because…well it's Bloomie's. (except Forty Carrots Fro-Yo.. that's the bomb!!)
Disappointing from a price to value ratio, but not awful in total. I mean, Flip is located inside Bloomingdale's, so you shouldn't be expecting a burger for tree fitty or anything, but what you pay for what you get is a bit much, even for here.
First off, you have to find Flip, and that means a long walk if you come in the Third Avenue Bloomie's entrance as the restaurant is located near the Men's Lab section on floor LL. Walk back that way and right before you go down the stairs to the Lab, Flip is on your left.
It's primarily a lunch spot, with waiter service, but you can sit at the bar and snack on your burger which comes with a ton of different meats. And, wait, it's only $12?! Obviously, you think I'm lying to you about the overpriced-ness here.
But that's only partially true — you can get a burger, with your choice of meat including short rib, brisket, spiced or veggie (and more) for $12 but that doesn't include fries or your drink. Be prepared to shell out another $5 for fries ($7 for the signature topped fries) and if you want more than one topping (first one is free) it's $1.50*.
Add in a soda (not even a beer) and you're well over $20 for lunch of what is a burger and fries.
The salads are even more disconcerting, as when you order a chopped salad with the burger blend (which is $18), it's a small bowl of mixed greens with a burger on top. Not mashed up and included within in the salad, but just some lettuce with a burger on top. Sure, it tasted fine, but it's not convenient and it's certainly not appealing.
Let's be clear, everything I ate was tasty. But the price and presentation left a lot to be desired.**
At least there were free refills on soda.
* – To be clear, you can get one cheese and one topping free, but if you want anything other it's $1.50.
** – Presentation meaning plate presentation; everyone was very nice.
After an exhausting and frustrating shopping day as I looked for a bday outfit… I was starving since I had not eaten since breakfast. I had a late lunch at Flip with the bestie who was in town from West New York. There aren't many restaurants in the area and we wanted a place where we could grab a bite before she had to head out. We decided to go to Flip since it is conveniently located inside of Bloomingdales. I was disappointed with the fact that I did not find my outfit and was hoping for some good grub to heal my broken heart. We got mini bottles of Zardetto Prosecco which were priced at 11 dollars, I found this a great deal since each bottle had two glasses worth of bubbly. Our food took a little longer than expected since there weren't many patrons in the restaurant, and our wonderful waitress Lauren who was sweet to us from the start came with her manager to let us know there was a miscommunication about our order, not only did they apologize for the delay but they also comped us another Zardetto Prosecco:) When the food came the tuna was cooked perfectly and did not have the fishy taste which I was very happy about. The skinny fries are crispy just like I love them with the right amount of salt on them. This is a perfect spot to meet up with friends or even to head by yourself after a Bloomingdales shopping date!
If only this Flip was the same chain as the Flip Burger Boutiques in Atlanta… alas, it is not and the food here comes nothing close to being as good either. A "refined" burger option allows you to choose a Wagyu beef burger. One would think this meat is of higher quality. However, I didn't taste anything different. In fact, my medium burger was pretty dry. The sweet potato fries were average.
