Flora Cafe

“Perhaps I just picked the right item, but I think this place is terribly under-rated, especially for the famished vegan traveler.”

“( Bunch was our server really worked hard to fix the IPad , she is great !)”

“However, the food quality is great and I've been looking forward to flying through Newark again soon, just so I could order the gazpacho again!”

  1. Baked eggs in spicy tomato sauce… surprisingly good.  And an extra star for my latte which was excellent!  iPad system….eh, not a fan.  Some didn't work.  They were dirty.  Employees could tell people were struggling with the concept, but chose not to help them out, so people were leaving without ordering.  Dishes came out sporadically & employees seemed to struggle with what tables got what food.  It really is a lot easier to give your order to a real live person….what a concept!

  2. Reasonable, quick, and convenient with good veggie options. Mostly a Greek/Mediterranean menu. Got the falafel sandwich and it was solid average (aka "good" for Airport food. Lots of seating space and most of the times, it's not hard to find a table.  They also serve drinks, which seems quite steep – even by Airport Standards (darn those expense accounts)

  3. Don't let the negative reviews scare you- it's a good place! We ordered with the tablet with no issues and when they ran out of schwarma (I know, for a Mediterranean place right?!) they offered us the lamb sausage instead. BF ordered the roasted butternut squash salad and I got the chicken schwarma sandwich. It's definitely on the smaller side- you only get half a sandwich and some salad but if you're looking for a healthier and light meal- then I would give this place a shot. I was nauseous and brought in my own ginger ale and the server happily brought me cups filled with ice.

I'm docking stars bc of the price and quantity of food- especially if you're hungry. But it's nice to sit at the table, charge up your electronics and you can also use the iPad for your viewing pleasure.

  4. There are good values on this menu, such as the interesting and generously portioned lentil salad with feta. On the other hand, the "falafel sandwich" was tiny, dry, and bizarrely seasoned. (Cinnamon falafel? Seriously?) Speaking of which, there are two things called "falafel" here. The "tofu falafel" is actually spit-it-out inedible. When I complained, though, they subbed it for a fairly good schnitzel at no extra charge.  (So much for no meat on this trip.) The baba ghannouj is bland, but the pita it's served with is pretty good.

If stuck in this terminal again, I'd probably return to La Flora and get the lentil salad.

  5. This may have been the healthiest and most flavorful choice in all of terminal.

You order via iPad, but the friendly staff are there to assist you and add that personal touch that prevents it from being cold and detached.

I had the Rosted Squash Salad which was butternut and acorn squash spiced with sumac, onion and some feta Cheese.

I added Lamb sausage and it made quite a tasty meal when paired with the Wolters Pilsner.

We also had the Jerusalem Chicken Shawarma. It was smaller than desired, but the sale was tasty and had a wonderful mint dressing, which I actually thought tasted more like a mustard seed vinaigrette.

The flavor of the Shawarma reminded me of my beloved Nick Tahou's Garbage plate – cumin!
