The only thing I've ever had from here is the chicharron mofongo, and it's the only thing I'll ever need. They're open 24 hours, so when I'm craving that starchy goodness, I know they'll be here for me. This is honestly one of the BEST mofongos I've ever had. Try the queso too, it's yummy.
Minus one star because, and this is fair warning, they are SUPER SLOW. So slow in fact, that the first time I ever went and ordered mofongo, I waited a whole 45 minutes. That's right, 45 minutes. For one dish. But hell, it was so delicious, I'd wait again. Well no, not really, because I'm an impatient person. The trick is to call about 30 minutes before you're going to pick up. When you arrive, it will (probably) be ready for you (fingers crossed!).
One another note: English isn't their strong suit here. But they have an English menu, so for my amigos who can't speak Spanish, you can do the ol' point and smile trick.
$10 minimum for credit cards. Mofongo is $8.
A decent place for breakfast!
I came here with my boyfriend for brunch and we both had omelets and coffee. The omelet was as good as those you would expect at a good diner. Coffee was good too, and we got several refills. Please don't be intimidated that everyone here speaks Spanish, the menu is in both Spanish and English. Since I was the only non-native Spanish speaker out of all the staff and customers, our waitress was really nice and spoke slowly to me when she asked what else I want to put on my omelet. Price was reasonable too, the omelet was about $7.00 and Floridita accepts credit cards.
I only had omelets here so I cannot comment on other food, but if you like a good omelet from diners, then you should definitely give Floridita a try!
Wow if this is quality food I should be on some type of psychotropic medication. Just plain terrible experience.
All the food was cold, the waitress was slopping around in her flip flops and there was enough grease in the food to lubricate my car tires.
I mean it took over 10 minutes to come back after my friend ordered the Sancocho Soup to tell her there was none left. So she decided upon the Chicken Soup which was barely edible with a grease slick.
My Pernil was greasy that's all I had with the Platano Maduro. Come on it took about 15 to 20 minutes after we ordered to get the food and it was all cold WTF!!! And on top of it they charged $10.00 just for the cold roast pork. Their prices are ridiculous especially when the food sucks.
I would not return here even if you paid me. Just terrible and for your information when it was called El Bohio the food was served hot.
Floridita is Dominican Restaurant. It's pretty large with seating at counters and a about 5 sets of tables for 4 on the sides. The have nice music playing, not too loud, and the customers all seemed to be regulars coming in for their weekly meals.
We we waited a bit for the waitress to come over and the communication barrier was difficult. She had to call another waitress over to help. After about 10 minutes we got the order straight and it took another 10 minutes for water to come.
I went here in search of some good pernil and mangu. I ended up with the mofongo and pernil mixed in. Some pieces were on the side. I found it a bit drier that I'm used to. It wasn't a fave. The others at my table had the salmon and steamed veggies and yuca which they seemed happy with. The maduros (fried sweet plantains) were really delicious and came in a huge order for about $2 or $3. Those I loved. They came out piping hot.
Maybe I'll try them another time I'm in Sunset Park.
Sorry Floridita went here with my (non D.R.) friend and was floored with embarrassment. We sit at a table. Waited ten minutes for a waitress,no waitress to be found. So I decided to become visible, and walked to the counter and request for one. They sent a scantily clad one with a nice body, but an attitude from hell. We make our orders, and here comes another new waitress, who retakes our order. I had a light dish which was the pescado escaveche, with rice and beans with tostones. The fish was good, the tostones were cold and not fresh. This was the last time I will ever come here. Btw, I ordered food here on several occasions and they always forget the tostones. What a bummer. Floridita if you want to survive, humble yourselves and remember the early glory days. 🙁
