  1. Fong On Inc. defies adopting the disease of cranky rudeness that seems to have invaded the other tofu shops in Chinatown, making me wonder if tofu production is damaging to the pysche. This was an accidental find, when I left the crowds of the  Lunar festival and turned the corner. What a gem! I thought the men working here were animated smiley faces, all cheery and happy to serve the customers. I get such a delight out of their happy energy I keep buying more than I usually want when I come, just to give them more business. The tofu and tofu products here are great. The hot tofu custard is one of the best, smooth as silk, made even more palatable by the service here. They sell the usual rice noodles and rice pudding cakes and Chinese steam cakes.  I've also tried the pudding cakes, the dried shrimp noodles(a little saltier because they don't stint on the shrimp unlike other places) and the plain rice noodles. A wonderful slice of old Chinatown and my new go to place for tofu, despite the longer walk than the Grand St. locations. I'm only surprised more Yelpers haven't shouted this place out.

  2. I stumbled upon this place on one of my walks through the neighborhood.  I decided to stop by and give it a try as I love tofu nao or tofu custard whichever you would like to call it.  I spent some time in Beijing and Shanghai and this brought me back.  The guys who work here do not speak English very well if at all, so get your pointing fingers ready.

Their tofu came with brown sugar liquid to put on top which was amazing.  They were very nice and I'll definitely be coming back for more.  This is strictly to go, there are public benches nearby but I prefer to take it home.

  3. I can't believe there is a 豆腐花 place in NYC. I got one right away, and wolfed it down. It was a $1.50, a little pricey, but the pleasant surprise was worth it.  Besides the豆腐花, they had four kinds of 糭 and lots of other noodles & rice/bean based products. The 豆腐花 is the only thing you can have on the spot. Everything else is to cook when you're back home.
