  1. They nailed the whole deli vibe perfectly, even if it means just mirroring the Russ & Daughter's decor.

They did add their own cool spin on things though, as evidenced by things like the choking victim sign featuring the classic Reggie Miller pose that will haunt New Yorkers forever. They've also added tons of more great choices too, which have so far been tough to acquire due to crazy lines and subsequently sold out items.

They have bagels from Baz and cold and hot sandwiches. They also have some solid pastries, including a black & white cookie, and really good iced coffee. On one day, I came too early when the crowd was in full swing, and the take a number thing was in effect, so I left. On the next day, I came a little too late, to find mostly everything sold out. However, the stuff we did get to try was all incredible.

The Brisket Sandwich on Challah is amazing ($15), so don't fret if that's all they have left. The Latkes also happened to be outstanding ($8), and better than most of the ones you find outside of your Jewish mother's house. Lastly, the Fries were perfect too ($4).

I'll be back again for that Pastrami and those breakfast sandwiches.

  2. The #3 Specialty Combo. Organic Irish smoked salmon, whitefish salad, and the works (tomato, onions, capers). I got it on a whole wheat everything, as they were out of the regular everything bagels.

The sandwich is expertly assembled, full of good product, and absolutely delicious. Was it a $16 sandwich? That I don't know. You've got to decide for yourself whether or not it's worth it to you.*

What I do know is that this neighborhood needed a real delicatessen. Frankel's is it, and although they took more than a page out of the Russ & Daughter's handbook, if you're going to emulate anyone, it should be the greats, right?

The place is reassuringly bright and clean, and the counter service is friendly, if not exactly polished yet. The hip-hop connection, the fact that the neighborhood was aching for some smoked fish, and NYC's obsession with what's new and hot means it's pretty busy, even at 2 pm on a Thursday. One of the Frankel brothers served me, and just a hair flustered with the growing line, he handed me my sandwich and a folded up bag with a good-natured, "Is it OK if I just give it to you like this?"

Yes, any way I get a sandwich that tasty is fine by me. When I need some smoked fish again while in Greenpoint, I'll be back to try some more.

*Personally, it's a bit high for me. Shelsky's in South Brooklyn serves some of the finest product as well, and even their high prices are a few dollars below this. $8 for latkes is pricey, any way you slice it.

  3. Let's get to the point: Frankel's Delicatessen is an exemplary example of taking something old school and giving it new life in delicious ways!

Frankel's is location on Manhattan Ave is awesome, well for me anyways. That area gets a lot of foot traffic and they couldn't have picked a better spot. When you first walk into Frankel's, you notice the main focal point: the counter. You place your order, give your name, and wait for your name to get called out.

I ordered the pastrami, egg and cheese on a roll and goodness it is gloriously crafted sandwich. It comes wrapped if you choose to eat there you can (HIGHLY SUGGESTED) or take it to go. When you unwrap it, it is piping hot. The cheese is melted over the fluffy scrambled egg and then above that is mouthwatering pieces of pastrami. Every bite of the sandwich was amazing. By the end, I wish I had another one. If there ever was a sandwich I'd eat again and again, the pastrami egg and cheese would be it. My only quibble is that I wanted more pastrami.

With a white and blue color palate, the deli has a cool atmosphere going for it which is a sign. There are metal tables and counters with stools situated by the window. It's good for small groups but no larger then four. What's great is McCarren Park is close by so when the weather starts getting warmer, Frankel's is a great place to take out your food for a picnic or lunch since they have all your needs like soda, rugelach, chips, and sandwiches. The service is also nice, friendly, and pretty efficient. Yay for no lines!

Frankel's Deli is a great addition to the neighborhood and a must if you're ever in Greenpoint. Happy eating and remember: Don't deny, satisfy!

  4. Frankel's is an old school Jewish deli without the old school Jewish deli price. In my opinion, many of the old school Jewish deli's of NY have lost their mystique (probably because they charge $25 for a pastrami sandwich). Frankel's Deli brings back the nostalgia and the (cheaper) price.

As my cousin and I cruised along Manhattan Ave., we saw the old school font and neon lights outside. It screamed "Come In!" and so we did. The decor of the deli reminds you of a 1960s Jewish deli with all the fixings.

    What we ordered:
    – Turkey Club – A delicious roasted turkey sandwich with some light russina dressing, bacon, lettuce and tomato on challah bread = A+
    – Hot Dog – Your typical NYC hot dog without the dirty water = B
    – Matzo Ball Soup – Flavorful stock mixed in with a huge matzo ball and celery = B+

  5. I came here on a Sunday afternoon around 1 and ordered Pastrami on Rye with Mustard for me and a corned beef and mustard on Rye for the Mr.
The establishment was not crowded but there was a steady flow of customers coming in. I saw a few people eating bagels with fancy fixings- noted for next time.
We placed our order and waited for about 10 minutes. The sandwiches were around $16 each which is cheaper than a Manhattan location. We took our sandwiches to go. They were packed nicely and stayed nice and warm until we ate them 45 minutes later.
The hot pastrami was very good! A hefty sandwich packed with thick and tender chunks of pastrami. I would definitely order again. The corned beef was good but if I'm being honest, the pastrami is the way to go here.
Not really a lot of seating here but McCarren Park is nearby- great option for an impromptu picnic in the warmer months.

  6. Frankels is my kind of Deli oh How I wish they were just a mile closer,I passed this place a few times to many and decided to check Yelp on my way to Greenpoint this day, My eyes nearly popped out I swear ! I'm a lover of Jewish style Pastrami & Corned Beef brisket sandwiches and hello did I just dream chopped chicken liver, nope I checked their web page menu and yes this is a must stop, see and try.

I walk in around 7pm on a Friday to this cute and pristine corner deli set up with a few tables and make a bee line directly to their counter! I'm eyeing the smoked salmon 1st and foremost but don't see the pastrami salmon I had my taste-buds set on, the gentleman behind the counter asks if he could help me, yes, do you have pastrami salmon, as a matter of fact we do, can I taste it, yes you can, damn my bill just went up in my head but this is the real deal friends, the Pastrami smoked salmon was all that I could ever desire and the taste was so fresh  I quickly ordered some to go!

Next up on the list was my all time favorite growing up,
Jewish style half Sour pickles by this point I couldn't believe my luck there they were sitting in front of me behind their cold case begging for me to take a small tub of nostalgia home with me, uh Add that to my order, please and thank you. Following my growing luck was another piece of old nostalgia Chopped Chicken liver another diet staple that I grew up eating and once again add this to my order too! Damn I'm greedy but no I haven't had such fresh deli picks in like forever so thus far I'm happy there's a Frankels and happy I'm to be here, it's Friday and this for me is a perfect start to the weekend plans.

But wait…. OMG, I promised my boys Pastrami sandwiches, I promised myself a Pastrami sandwich uh add a few Pastrami sandwiches to my order on rye with mustard! I get all my deli delights and head home, we rip bags open and dive into the Warm soft and fresh as hell Pastrami sandwiches! Hell yeah everybody eyes was wide open we couldn't believe how soft and fresh both the bread and pastrami was damn perfect, Frankels is 5 stars!

Chicken Chopped liver doesn't look pretty but has that old world nostalgic taste just like grandma used to make – 5 stars, half sour pickles – 5 stars, Pastrami cured Salmon- 5 stars, Pastrami on rye – 5 stars. Don't talk about prices pay your money your getting a solid 5 stars, eat and shut up!

    I love it!
