  1. It's probably a good job I'm not someone who commutes in and out of New York through Grand Central. Because if I did, then I'd eat far too many of these hot dogs. They've got a good snap, texture and flavour – I'm certain there are far better hot dogs out there, but these meet the expectation and sometimes that is all that you're looking for.

Queue speed was fine on this occasion, though after reading previous reviews that may have been mainly because we only had one person in front and didn't order anything complicated. But I'd been wanting to try a proper New York hotdog (and felt like I might be poisoned if I ordered something off a street vendor) so this was a great compromise which turned out exactly as I expected.

  2. Frankies serves up a good hotdog. Located in front of gate 111 in Grand Central Terminal. As a person who has to grab a quick bite running to catch a train in GCT, Frankies is a good option. Quality toppings, nicely spiced dogs with good snap when you bite them, on a soft potato bun. The New Yorker ($3.75) and Chicago ($5.00) are my favorites.  These dogs are piled so high with toppings it's difficult to eat them without making a mess.. It's one of the cheaper meals you can grab on the go in the food court at GCT. Quench your thirst with their homemade lemonade, it's nice and tart ;-). The Chicago from frankies is as good as the Shack-cago dog from shake shack and there's never a ridiculous wait for your hotdog..

  3. We hadn't had a NY hot dog and thought we'd give Frankie's a go – and we were glad we did!

We just got a naked dog to share (I just wanted to taste hot dog, not toppings). The service was friendly and prompt, the hot dog was an appropriate temperature, and the bun was soft and tasty.

The dog itself was juicy and tasty, if a bit on the small side. However, it totally hit the spot, and wasn't so greasy that I felt a bit icky afterwards (like I often do with hot dogs!). I'm glad we stopped!

  4. I'm not a huge fan of hot dogs, and I'm definitely not a fan of paying $30 for a couple of hot dogs and some bottled beverages.  But New York really is a scary place when it comes to such things. I guess I can't complain.. it's convenient, line wasn't long at all compared to every other establishment in Grand Central. We got our order immediately.  The guys that work there are pretty rude though, if you've got the time.. it's worth eating elsewhere.. but if not.. Frankie's really will get you on the go in a timely manner.

  5. Frankie's is awesome because it's one of the few options available in the dining concourse late into the evening. Their menu says 11pm but I was told that they are open until midnight. This was on a Sunday, so those might be weekend hours.

The food is solid as well. The hot dogs are fantastic, whether you have them naked or loaded with toppings. I'd give them four stars, but the bacon option is bacon bits (kind of disappointing) and the shredded cheese they put on the dogs is freezing cold, bringing down the temperature of the entire dish. I understand it has to be refrigerated, but nothing is worse than biting into any sort of bread + meat + toppings combo and getting a mouthful of different temperatures.

Also, a tad bit pricey for dogs that aren't Crif Dogs or Soul Dogs but it's Grand Central, what was I expecting?

  6. New spot for dawgs in GCT.

The dogs themselves are good.  Not great, good.  Do yourself a favor, don't just get a naked dog, it may be a disappointment.  On the other hand the toppings is where this place shines.  I tried two dogs and both were very good.

The Frankie's Hot is covered in hot sauce and bacon.  It's more like bacon bits, but it's still really good.  It's not too hot though, so don't be afraid.  The Italian dog is also really good.  It has diced fresh tomatoes and mozzarella.  The tomatoes went really well with the dog and all in all it was quite good.

They have a pretty solid menu and also do egg creams which I may have to grab next time.

  7. Totally agree with Michelle G.'s review.  If you want a quick bite of a real NY hot dog and you're in Grand Central, this is a really great choice.  Being in NYC, I didn't opt for the Chicago-style and got the classic sauerkraut, onions, and hot mustard.  Worth a  stop if you are in GCS and craving this American classic.  Open till midnight, I think!

  8. While looking for Agern Danish Dogs I found another Hot Dog counter in Grand Central.  Frankie's. It way down the below the main food hall next to Gate 111.

They give you a plan dog at $3.25 and charge for the topping at 50 cents or a $1 depending on what it is.  So I asked for a bacon bits and mustard dog and it looked like 1/2 of  bacon bits on it. so I brush some off and it a descent NY frank.

So you can do a not so bad hot dog for about $3 to $5 with your mix of toppings or go to Danish Dogs and get a not so great dog for $8 with there toppings, its your money and taste buds. They also have snacks and knishes.
