  1. One of the best Thai places in the area. Firstly, walking in you feel super comfortable and welcomed. The decor and design of this restaurant is beautiful and it is a great place to have a delicious and peaceful meal. The staff is super attentive, friendly and always making sure you're well taken care of.

We were seated pretty quickly (however, I've heard that it gets pretty busy so I would keep that in mind)  and the food did not take long once we ordered. For an appetizer we tried the Golden Bags which looked super interesting. They were amazing! I could have had two orders just for myself. For my meal, I had the Pad Thai, as I usually do, and it was delicious. The portions were large and perfectly prepared and presented. You can tell the owners of Frankly Thai greatly take pride in what they do and have a love for their restaurant and customers.

I had such a nice time here and I will definitely be back to try more of their dishes! Can't wait.

  2. Over the last few years I've been here a few times to dine in and several times for takeout being that it's close to where I work out, the ambiance is casual, nice and simple, the service is good and the food is great, takeout is simple enough just call and pick up your food in 15 min, I've noticed that this spot can be a little pricey but the food is well worth it, the latest time I came here I ordered takeout and I got the Thai sausage pineapple fried rice which was ridiculously good and had the perfect blend of sweet and savory, I also had the chicken curry puffs which were good and just what you would expect from the appetizer, this is a good place to come get some Thai food, while its not the best I've had I do appreciate it and also appreciate the location because I haven't seen many Thai placed in this area

  3. Can only think of the word serviceable, and I agree with Remi, no standouts unfortunately.  I had extremely high hopes based on a number of other glowing reviews, so after some really great music and brews at the beer garden down the street, this was our chosen destination. We had the golden bags to start, crispy and crunchy but decidedly out of place ( lots of corn kernels in the filling, good late night snack perhaps). The Yum Ped (crispy duck salad) , duck meat tasty but the dish was not hitting those notes I associate with this usually complex salad. The pineapple curry, nicely cooked and sized shrimp , but again lacking any true Thai flavors.Oh… and the prices were considerably more than expected for a Thai place. In my mind,  Frankly Thai is a gateway restaurant; one that someone just moving up from their usual takeout Chinese might find adventurous.

  4. Very good Franklin Square Thai restaurant that serves up a lot of dishes from southern Thailand.  Lunch started off disappointing with curry puffs which tasted like fried mashed potatoes, no curry flavor at all.  Then they redeemed themselves with a delicious chicken roti with a wonderful peanut curry sauce.  The red curry chicken was very good as well but could benefit from a little more heat, asked for medium spicy and it was rather mild but still flavorful.  Service is friendly and prices are not too bad.  Paid $50 for two for lunch on a Saturday which is what you'd pay for dinner.  Recommended and worth coming back.

  5. I am a Thai lover & can you honestly ever go wrong with a plate of pad Thai?

I happened to be in Franklin Square and remembered seeing this restaurant on Yelp a number of occasions so I decided to give it a try. On a Wednesday evening we had to wait about 5-10 minutes for a table and the dining room was almost full.

The restaurant back story is cute. Apparently the two owners are husband and wife. The guys name is Frank (the restaurant is in Franklin Square –hence Frankly Thai) and his wife is the cook. It is in her culture to cook Thai food and he fell in love with her and the food many years ago.

The one thing I didn't like was how long it took from the time I was seated until my waitress came over and introduced herself/take orders. I was starving which also made it worse because after 1 minute I already knew what appetizers and entrees I was ordering and I want to say I waited about 10 minutes to get someone to come over to my table. That bothered me. Also upon ordering pad Thai for my 3 year old daughter the waitress decided she knew my kid better than me and tell me that she won't like pad Thai. (My kid loves pad Thai btw- she thinks it's pasta but who am I to burst her bubble?)

It might be a good thing that I started out a little annoyed with the service because after that everything went uphill. The service improved and the food was great. We started with 2 appetizers: the golden bags and the Thai dumplings. Both were very yummy. We ordered 3 entrees: chicken pad Thai, drunken noodles with chicken, chicken /shrimp fried rice combination. All 3 entrees tasted  good. We decided to get the Thai style zeppoli for dessert and that was the perfect end to the meal. They had a perfect crisp and still soft and fresh with the right amount of sweet for just $3.95. I would recommend those to any one.

All in all, the main issue I had with this restaurant was the subpar service I received. The food was good but my experience wasn't good enough for me to rush back here. I would definitely consider it a place to go to for take out and it seems a lot of people do that. One more thing, they are BYOB if you're into that!

  6. This is one of the best Thai places.  The portions are reasonable.  I had spring rolls as appetizer and dumplings.  I had a red curry with chicken.  The best thing is that it is BYOB.

  7. Upon entering Frankly Thai on a rainy Saturday evening, my fiance and I were greeted by a friendly hostess who told told us there would be a 35 minute wait. We plopped ourselves in the waiting room corner and were delighted to be seated after only 10 minutes. We started our meal with the golden bags, crispy flaky pockets filled with meat and veggies, served with a sweet and spicy chili sauce. For dinner, I ordered the yellow curry with potatoes, onions, cashews, and chicken.  The sauce was spicy with sweet undertones, packed with flavor. If you're not in the mood for curry, try one of the noodle dishes. I tasted a bite of my fiance's drunken noodles and had to resist the urge to steal the rest of his plate.  Throughout our meal, we were served by a handful of different servers. Although quick and efficient, this made paying for the meal a little tricky (since there seemed to be a lack of communication between all of them). Other than that tiny hiccup, we had an awesome meal and will definitely return for more!

  8. Totally fine. No complaints and no stand outs. If I were in the area and wanted Thai, I may go to give it another go. My biggest issue was the door! I mean, if you park on the street and try to enter what looks like the front door, you're actually entering in through the BACK door! You have to walk around to the back or park in the back to go through the FRONT door….very confusing.

The service was average….was initially a little ignored, but they then made up for it through the service at the table.
