  1. Came here on a Sunday night with my husband for dinner, and while we had high hopes it was somewhat disappointing. Service was good, we were given bread and salad almost immediately and the eggplant in olive oil was absolutely a favorite of mine. The salad was well dressed.

I ordered one of their specials for the night which was the ravioli alla bandiera, which consisted of 6 pieces of ravioli covered in pesto, alfredo, and marinara sauces in the style of the Italian flag. It was a really cool concept but the dish honestly could've been better. The alfredo sauce in particular was separating a bit. The corner edge of my plate was also a little dusty which I didn't discover until I'd already begun eating. Luckily it was far enough away from my food that I wasn't too bothered to continue eating. It was still disappointing though. My husband was also pretty underwhelmed by his dish, penne and broccoli.

Overall, the experience was just okay. It was a slow night and the dishes could've been much better prepared.

  2. Like Patricia's… but maybe a little bit better?

The portions are HUGE and its very loud in there. The service was pretty bad. Our waiter spent most of the time texting and checking his cell phone than paying attention to us. However, they were pretty cool about keeping the kitchen open late and starting a new check when two of our friends came to join us.

I got this amazing special – spinach fettuccine with a ton of seafood in a light tomato sauce. It was way too much to finish but delicious.

They were out of the cheapest bottle of chardonnay- I hate when restaurants do that. I always think its a scam because the next bottle of white was ten bucks more! They offer carafes of "house" wine which is pretty cool (for like 12$)

  3. Fratelli continues to dish out what has made it one of the best Italian restaurants in the Bronx. This place is everything you want out an Italian restaurant; small, close-knit staff, and solid food. The menu is mostly no frills with some twists highlighted in their specials.

Each meal starts with a mixed salad and bread with an eggplant 'chutney', seasoned oil, and butter. I went with one of their specials for my app: grilled calamari and shrimp over a kale salad. Pretty solid overall – the seafood was seasoned well and the kale was fresh. For my main I had the chicken scarpariello which was served with sausage and hot peppers. Each entree has a choice of mixed veggies, potato croquette, or pasta as a side (I chose pasta). For dessert I had ricotta cheesecake.

Fratelli always serves good food; two aspects of the restaurant that leave me wanting more however are the decor and plate presentation. All of the decor is original to when the restaurant opened in the early/mid 90s, so it's tried looking. Additionally, I don't feel plate presentation is Fratelli's strength – we eat with our eyes first and sometimes you have to get over how it looks before realizing how tasty the food is. All in all though, Fratelli is a good choice for real-deal Italian food in the Bronx beyond Arthur Ave.

  4. Returned here and still had a great time. They started us off with Salad, bread, and also a baked bread with like onion. I liked it but it wasn't a fan of the other people I was with. I shared Eggplant Parm with my cousin and it was really good, although a bit to salty. I also had Penne Vodka again, great but really thick. Fried calamari was perfect as well as the Muscles. I forgot what the ice cream was called in the hard chocolate shell but oh man, the chocolate ice cream in it was amazing. The cappuccino was pretty good as well.

  5. We hosted an event here and overall, good experience. Yummy food, and friendly, attentive staff.

Only downfall I'd say is that we had the space starting at 12pm and staff literally showed up about 5 minutes or so to open up the restaurant doors. That was worrisome for us as we were hosting approximately 40 people and wanted to make sure all was set.  Moving forward, they should be open at least 30 minutes beforehand.

Also, if you are looking for more of a private space for an event, this may not be the place for you. Our event was hosted in the same space as the rest of the restaurant even though everything ended up working out fine.

Otherwise, the restaurant did the best they could to accommodate us and ensure that all was set for a successful event.
