We went in around 3pm to snoop around. There was no one in the store but us. Having read the reviews, I had my guard up just in case someone had the balls to give us a stank eye when a question gets thrown their way.
I wasn't met with any hostility. Sure, the salad bar guy had a bit of an attitude, but who the hell cares – so do we. After having asked plenty of question of, "what's that, what's this, what's that, let me try this first," we made our way with our salad and soup to the counter. Everyone was quite nice for the most part. Or is it because I had such low expectations? Or perhaps the time of our visit?
The food is fresh and I love their soup – I tried two before opting for the veggie soup. I really only wanted a small snack anyway, so I got the small size. The posts seemed clean, and so did their trash and dining sections. The fridge was packed with healthy options, and the cashiers were friendly.
IMHO Just Salad has become the biggest FAIL in salad business history, so when a Fresh & Co is around, I'll be running towards their variety and freshness over JS's mediocre BS service and quality.
If you have a gluten allergy like me, Fresh&Co also offers many sandwiches/paninis on display that are GF. That'll be my next choice.
This newest location of Fresh&Co took over the Cafe Metro spot seemingly overnight. Many people in my office were big fans of Cafe Metro so it's sad to see that location disappear, however, Fresh&Co is welcome in a different way. First off, they offer a slew of healthy options. Salads, quinoa bowls (a personal favorite), grab and go sammiches, and healthy sweet treats (hemp brownie, for example). The layout is exactly the same as Cafe Metro was. New staff. Fridges stocked with the quickie sandwiches and drinks.
The quinoa bowls are delicious and a step by step process goes into making them. Both those and the salads are completely customizable. The way they get you is by charging an arm and a leg for anything extra. I wanted tofu with my bowl and that was an extra $3, which with a drink, brought my lunch total to $14….That's pretty unacceptable and the reason I am only giving 3 stars. If the prices were better, I would definitely come here more often. Unfortunately, my wallet will not allow me to get a bowl or salad everyday if the prices are this crazy. And yes, I realize this is Manhattan and yes, everything is more money here. I'm just spoiled by the local delis that have salads for a fraction of the cost.
Regardless, if you're looking for a healthy spot to call your lunch "home" once or twice a week, this is the place for you. The variety is insane and you can read up on everything beforehand online so you don't go in and hold up the line while staring at the menu.
Another new salad place for me hands down in this area, as I'm already kind of tired eating just salad every single day. Have to admit that Fresh & Co had the most variety of selection in terms of ingredient and dressing, both of high quality.
I tried their chef's signature California Cobb, paired with low-fat peppercorn ranch dressing. A very tasty combo without introducing too much fat. A complementary soup was also provided.
The only complain I have was that they don't really chop your salad, so really hard to fit into my mouth…
I am a true fan of Fresh and Co. I love their signature quinoa bowls- they are very fresh, super healthy, and even fulfilling! In terms of their foods, all fresh and Co stores deserve 5 stars.
I gave 5 stars to Fresh and Co located at 86th street, Lexington Avenue, because their service was great. Despite being a same salad chain, 3 less stars for this particular store because the customer service of those 2 restaurants differed in a great extent.
Not that every restaurants should have a perfect customer service, but should provide at least a decent customer service. I.e. not staring at a customer when the customer says "ummmm" prior to ordering. I was shocked when I saw one of the staff members giving this face to my sister as my sister was deciding what she was going to order. We were the only customer at that time, and there were no one behind us. And I swear she said "ummmm" for less than 4 seconds.
Definitely wasn't a very pleasant experience…
This Fresh&Co is located on 51st street and It's only salad place around besides Chop't on 52nd street.
I came here to order to quick dinner at around 7pm. There was no line. I ordered one of the quinoa bowls, and was surprised that they cook the vegetables right in front of you. You can customize it to exactly what you want. They put too much ginger in my dish, and I wish I said something when they were making it. Special toppings are $1 each (nuts, seeds, crunchy chickpeas, etc). They also have already made to-go items like sandwiches and yogurts.
Easy, quick and not too expensive.
