  1. Fresh & Co. isn't breaking any new ground with its combination of salads, soups and paninis for the work lunch crowd. There's a new location about a block from my office, which is two clocks closer than the nearest Flavors. So it's been added pretty throughly into the lunch rotation, especially as the Bento Japanese to go place undergoes renovations.

The lines here are short and the service perky and quick, which help maximize the short lunch breaks I take. I'll stand around for long periods of time at dinner, but that's just not an option at midday.

I've been pretty much a soup guy here, as the sandwiches that look good have frighteningly high calorie counts and seem like they might induce a small coma to start the afternoon. I think the New York Clam Chowder is particularly excellent, and since it's a non-cream choice I sometimes opt for the larger size. Certainly there is less variety here compared with a Hale and Hearty, which has more than 20 soup at a time. It seems here they go through about that number over the course of the week.

One thing I'm not a fan of is the seemingly random way the soups come and go. I've gone to Fresh & Co. only to find not one soup that looks appealing. Other times I'm stuck choosing between Italian Wedding, a bisque and some Tomato Cheddar. These are all highly appealing options in my world. I reached out on Twitter and received a non-response response after two days.

What I do now is go inside, and if I don't see one I like, head to Pret next door. Loyalty ain't nothing when you're running on an empty stomach.

  2. Good salads but failing service. Saladmaker was ready to hand off my salad even though she missed a bunch of ingredients. Not surprisingly also got rude when I reminded her to give me carrots for my "superfood salad." This location is not even comparable to the one in USQ. The chain also seems to try too hard to be trendy – it's 2016 and they're still advertising gluten free. Seasonal salads have been vegan for the past year. Don't bother asking for the free "bread."

  3. Love that they have so many options for those who don't eat beef or pork. I've had the Power BLT for breakfast (very filling) and the Crispy Chicken and Mozzarella panini (pretty good but the portion may be on the smaller side for a male). The service is always quick, and workers are very chipper and helpful.

  4. I guess I'll leave 3 stars because my experience wasn't terrible. I ordered a two egg sandwich and decided to have it with cheddar and avocado on a croissant. It was pretty good. I would have eaten maybe two of them… So for that, and the quick delivery, 3 stars.

However, I ordered an iced coffee with milk, and there is no milk. Which for me is a problem because if there isn't a good amount of milk it in, I can't drink it. So that went down the drain. Also, I ordered "their" water, which is supposed to be mixed with lemonade. It just tastes like tap water.

So after tax and tip everything was $17. I would've given 4 stars if the water had flavor and my coffee had milk. For me personally, sometimes little things do make a big difference.
