Fresh Tortillas Express
“I could ask for little more from a Tex Mex joint.”
“Listen: this place isn't going to win any interior design awards, and upon entering one might even grapple with the whole "I'm really hungry, but I don't want to get food poisoning" debate.”
“I ate here one day because my friend and I were going to see a movie at Film Forum around the corner, I think Metropolis.”

Everything here is reasonably priced, but the staff is a perhaps little bit too pushy — it usually takes me a couple minutes to make up my mind, but they ask about every half-second "you ready yet? you ready yet? you ready yet? you ready yet? you ready yet?"
Some items here are really good (nachos with steak are fantastic, grilled chicken and cheese quesadillas are awesome), some are just decent (shrimp burrito, chili taco, bean and cheese burrito), while others aren't good at all (the steak tostada salad was DISGUSTING — all the veggies seemed like they've been sitting around being kept "fresh" in ice-water, so everything was limp and cold and sort of soggy — plus the ginger dressing they put on it is gross and I couldn't get the smell out of my mouth all day)… Basically everything on the menu is a sort of American-Chinese inspired American-Mexican, but there are odd touches here and there of American-Japanese and perhaps even American-Thai…
I come here from time to time when seeing some flicks around the corner at Film Forum (sometimes I see two or three or four movies in a single day, and, trust me, I get DAMN HUNGRY)… It's a decent-enough option if you know what to order and what not to order.
SUCKS!
just another Chinese joint converted into a terrible taco shop. Seasoning was obviously not a concern when their illustrious master chef put their menu together. Tacos were flavorless and unenjoyable. Wish I would have saw the pictures showing roaches in the food before I ate here
the quality of food should only be 2 stars but i've given it 3 because… well it's just different- it's a chinese take out/tex-mex place and it WILL confuse you. best part of the confusion? mexican food at chinese take out prices. nice.
got the chicken & jack cheese which was surprisingly tasty – can't determine if the cheese was really jack or if the chicken was fresh, but it was hot and good.
can't say that much about the guacamole… it was slightly sour and left a tingly sensation on my tongue. i love guac and i kept on hoping that either i'd get used to the sensation or it would go away. didn't happen. be boop..
