I ordered delivery from Freshbites and enjoyed every single item in my lunch. The citrus marinated chicken was perfectly seasoned, tender, and juicy. I felt that I was given a satisfactory amount of chicken for the price I paid ($10.25). The meal came with two sides so I ordered Brussels sprouts and the charred corn salad. I loved the addition of dried cranberries to the Brussels sprouts and the corn salad was very tasty. I normally don't like black beans but I barely noticed them amidst the other wonderful/fresh flavors in the corn salad.
I recently ordered a very similar lunch plate from Dig Inn (chicken with one grain and two sides) but I was far more content with my order from Freshbites. I much prefer the chicken from Freshbites and the sides tasted healthier since they were less oily/saucy. I think I received a little more food from Dig Inn, but I think quality is more important than quantity here.
I will definitely be ordering from Freshbites again!
My order wasn't the tastiest today. I ordered the meatballs over barley with sides of corn salad and green beans. The green beans were over seasoned and very sour from lemons. The corn was chewy like it was over cooked.
The meatballs unfortunately were equally as bad.
On my way to work, stopped to have nice breakfast and the name " Freshbites " called me in 🙂 They have choices of omelets, bagels, pancakes and salads. I was craving for some nice pancakes for a while so taught this should be a nice spot to try. So I ordered to stay. The interior is really nice and the tables with flowers on are cute. In about 5 minutes the lady at the register brought my tray.
Since I ordered to stay, I expected the pancakes to be on a plate but they were inside a plastic to go container which made it hard to cut inside to eat and also the pancakes got squashy because of the lid. Fruits were fresh, i got strawberries and blueberries. Brew coffee was not tasty.
I will try the omelets next time with a fresh juice, I hope they change their serving style and get a different brand coffee.
The pulled pork and mac n cheese at Freshbites have become two of my favorite quick lunch foods. The market plates here are a better value compared to the sandwiches and salads, and one was more than enough to leave me full for the rest of the day. I also thought their plate options sounded more compelling than those at Dig Inn. I got the BBQ pulled pork over barley, roasted Brussels sprouts with cranberries and onions, and mac n cheese. The Brussels sprouts could have been softer and had more cranberries, but I'll just try a different side next time. The pulled pork was super tender and contrasted nicely with the firmer barley grains. I don't know what cheese they used in the mac n cheese, which had a sharp flavor, but I really liked it. Extra thumbs up to Freshbites for including a pickup option on their Yelp page – I just ordered ahead and was in and out of the restaurant in minutes.
A very solid four star lunch place that I will be returning to again and again.
I was curious about this place after I had tried digg inn before so I came for lunch today and got a large pulled pork with brown rice, mac and cheese and roasted Brussels sprouts.
The pulled pork was amazing and they were not stingy with my Large order unlike digg inn. The Mac and cheese was a bit watery and the roasted Brussels sprouts needed some seasoning like a little more salt and pepper? maybe even more garlic?
All in all I enjoyed my food and was super full. The lines were fast and short. They have a separate line for salads and wraps. I would come back here again. I also tried their tea and it was yummy. They also have blue agave by the utensils to add to your drinks.
I saw that they had breakfast options and I might come back to try that and wrote another review.
Was expecting healthy and fresh and was disappointed. The brown rice and falafel were quite dry, and roasted potatoes and quinoa were just okay.
I come here almost everyday for lunch because it's right next to my office. I've been here so many times that it's embarrassing that I'm trying to find other places to go eat.
I really like the custom salad & all the different ingredients they offer. They're also a lot better prepared than hale & hearty (for somewhat similar prices).
I like the market plate a lot as well, but the most flavorful protein, the pulled pork, is a little too salty. Actually, a lot of things are a little bit too salty or vinegary for my preference. I'm not a big water drinker when I eat, but I usually finish an entire bottle with this stuff.
The chicken & steak are okay. The meatballs are nice & soft, but not as flavorful. The salmon is not worth the price. You get half a fillet.
My favorite sides are the Asian slaw, the green beans, and the black eyed pea salad. There's a lot of other choices like mac & cheese and mashed potatoes that I feel too guilty to get (since I'm sitting on my butt for hours).
It's always crowded during lunch hours but the line moves ridiculously fast. I'm in and out in less than 5 minutes always. I recommend this place for a quick & relatively healthy lunch. A meal usually costs anywhere from 9-11 dollars for me, and I don't get anything extra or anything to drink. Also, people with bigger appetites might not find this place filling, but you can always buy extra sides!
I worry the Yelp rating for Freshbites is inflated – the food was good and reasonably priced, but I don't think it deserves the raving 5 star reviews that a lot of people have given.
Freshbites serves healthy "fast" food cuisine similar to other lunch eateries in Midtown like Dig Inn, Bushwick, and Authentic. In addition to salad and sandwiches, it offers protein plates (chicken, salmon, pulled pork, etc.) with market vegetable sides. I've tried the meatball plate, which I loved, and the falafel plate, which I wouldn't order again.
The first time I had Freshbites, I got the Chipotle Spiced Meatballs Plate, which comes with a choice of base (rice, barley, or greens) and two sides. My plate had two big meatballs with tomato sauce over greens, and a side of Farro Curried Apple Salad and Charred Broccoli.
The meatballs were delicious! I couldn't really taste the chipotle spices, but the ground beef/pork/whatever meat they were made from was so tender and juicy. The farro salad had scallions, raisins, and pomegranate seeds to add to the texture and the flavors of the side dish. The Charred Broccoli was slightly burnt – just the way it should be for charred vegetable.
The second time, I got the Turmeric Falafel over barley with two different sides – Roasted Brussels Sprouts and Smoked Paprika Pineapple Quinoa. Maybe my expectations were a bit high, but the two pieces of falafel (I think they are baked) were extremely dry. A dollop of hummus would have added a nice touch to the meal. The barley base was super bland, and the brussels sprouts with red onions and dried cranberries were oily. Finally, the quinoa with cucumbers, scallions, dried cranberries, and spicy seed mix tasted fine but I'd choose some other side over this one.
