Fried Dumpling
“I've had Prosperity, Tasty and Vanessa's and I STILL like Fried Dumpling the best.”
“and by cater, I mean she goes there with a 20 dollar bill or two and walks away with 100 – 200 dumplings, all soaked in the vinegar sauce!”
“Thanks to the frying method, the skin is crispy and delicious; the filling of pork and chives is well balanced and very tasty as well.”

This hole in the wall place is what NYC (China Town) is all about. We went Fried Dumpling crazy!…So we put in our name at Joe's Shanghai restaurant and as you know, it takes A WHILE!. We blitzed down here to grab some good food.
The woman who took our order knew very few english but was hospitable. It felt like I was in a scene of Seinfled, because it was PACKed for just dumplings and fried pork buns.
So we ordered the dumplings but because of how hungry we were, we had an order of the fried pork buns.
Get it while it is HOT!
Got the fried pork buns because since my experience in Shanghai I have been trying to find something comparable. These were very cheap and incredibly tasty. The place is a total hole in the wall- most people grab a plate of dumplings and eat them on the street outside (not so dissimilar to China).
The other dumplings looked good too. I also Got a hot and sour soup which was not good and why this establishment will only get 4 stars and not 5.
Bottom line- if you are in the area. Get some fried pork buns here. Not too doughy, extremely tasty, and juicy.
Always been here ever since I was a kid. The flavor never changed, still awesome as always. Rude customer service but the food is good! Portion became super small though….
Oh man, came here a long time ago to pick up some frozen dumplings. Forgot about this place for a while, but I'm so glad I came back yesterday!!!
Was having a strong craving for dumplings while walking home. I knew I hated tasty dumplings (thick skin, gross pink meat), so I surfed Yelp for a new option nearby. I then remembered that I'd been to a hole in the wall in a small alley off mott 🙂 YESSSSSS.
They sell cooked potstickers, but if you want to buy a bunch home, they sell 30 dumplings for $6 (they only have one flavor). I picked up two bags, and loved itttttttttttt. I boiled some and also pan fried some at home, and they are definitely the best. The skin is pretty thin and the meat tastes fresh.
The lady there is also very friendly 🙂 A+!
Fried dumplings here taste good. Although they are really cheap (5 dumplings per dollar), the meat is still too little inside. I would suggest them to adjust their price in order to offer more satisfying fillings. (Dumplings look like 1/3 – 1/2 filled versus dumplings from any other place in ctown.) I would prefer Prosperity in ctown over Fried Dumplings.
Cheap prices: 5 dumplings per dollar, 4 fried pork buns per dollar. Will not come back since I have better options in ctown.
Cheap dumplings without breaking your budget. Fried Dumpling is, indeed, a little hole-in-the-wall eatery specifically for takeout or a quick intake as a mid-day break. Do not expect 5 pcs of fried dumplings to eat your fill as a full fledge meal as two hours later hunger pangs strike me. I actually got about seven (7) pcs of fried pork and chives dumplings. The dumplings are actually tasty, but the meat for the interior is very minimal and interior portion is small. I prefer steamed dumplings rather than fried. There is one built-in metal wall counter with very limited stools. The stools are worn and the cushion is exposed. Sauce options are red hot or vinegar, no standard soy sauce as my cultural background is Cantonese. Coffee and tea are both budget conscious under $5.00.
The woman who serves the dumplings speaks a very heavy Northern Mandarin (I think Tianjian) dialect and certainly L.E.P. (Limited English Proficiency). The woman did not offer the option of whether I wish to dine-in or takeout. I opt to dine-in because dumplings would go bad during my long commute home. I highly prefer Prosperity Dumpling, but sadly it is indefinitely closed.
Great cheap eats. 5 pcs for $1. Why the heck not?! It's a crime not to try it.
BTW, it was a little on the oily side but fried with a nice light sear/char/light brown edging. The pork stuffing was flavorful, juicy and tender. LOVED it.
My friends and I wanted to do a dumpling tour of Chinatown and this was to be the first stop on a dumpling tour of Chinatown. Oh man, I wish we didn't get drawn here by the cheapness. We did come at night and the dumplings were pretty much just being kept warm on the grill. But still, they were just such bad dumplings I can't imagine them tasting good fresh either. The skin was glued together, the texture was thick and unpleasant, there was barely any meat, and it was so greasy. We got 10 of them to try, but we each ate 1 or 2 and threw out the rest. Such a waste of calories.
I'd rather use my dollar to buy a stick of gum than these dumplings. or better yet an egg tart from Lung Moon Bakery which is only $0.90. Some of the prices on the board are also outdated. The soymilk costs more than $0.75 and was also pretty bad tasting. Really bland and thin and tastes like some kind of powdered version of soymilk. Also tossed with the rest of the dumplings.
