  1. We visited NYC on a hot summer weekend and started our trip with brunch at Friedman's. Although it's on the rather small side our pair of couples didn't feel cramped in a booth in the back. The service was great and although the place was packed our food came out fast. I ordered the salmon salad and the salmon was cooked perfectly. I also shared a side of grits with a friend and they were awesome! The pancakes were also a hit. I would definitely try it again but will be sure to get there as early as possible so that the wait isn't so long.

  2. Really like the interior, the white room feels like someone's beautiful kitchen – perfect for a Saturday brunch setting.

    Service is fantastic.

Food was well plated, but flavors were very average.
*The wild mushroom toast was good. Salad was blah.
    * pulled pork Benedict on corn bread was disappointing. Corn bread couldn't hold the liquid from pork and egg, so became mushy
    * latte was fine

    Maybe other dishes are better?

Not the best bang for your buck on food, but very comfortable to sit and have a drink (if you need an escape from crazy herald square). They also have a bagel bar

  3. We went here in the winter when we were visiting and it's a great breakfast brunch place! There was a bit of a wait but everywhere in NY there is always a wait especially on a Saturday. We got seated at the bar. Got their smoke salmon benny, blueberry pancakes, and chilaquiles… And all were delicious! Very satisfying and generous portions! Coffee was good too which was a nice little plus (sometimes I can be a coffee snob.. Ok all the time).

  4. Excellent brunch!!! Try the chilaquiles and the mushroom toast!! We also tried the blueberry pancakes and the cornbread but I wasn't a huge fan – a little dry and the whipped cream on top of the pancakes tasted like the actual pancake batter? I'd still recommend this place. They also have fresh squeezed orange juice!

  5. Friedman's has all of the classics: fish tacos, chicken and waffles, BLT, etc.

I ordered the fish tacos and shared french fries with my cousin. Both were really good. Our server was so friendly.

All in all, nothing stood out to me aside from the booths. I love comfy seating. I wouldn't come here again as there are much better restaurants throughout the city, service and food wise. But if you're in the area and need a quick bite, why not.

  6. I am always fascinated by finding decent dining options in close proximity to Penn Station/Madison Square Garden.  My top choice is the stellar Stella 34 at Macy's, but you can't go wrong with Keen's, The Tick-Tock Diner, Bro J's, visiting K-town for Korean cuisine, or, apparently, Friedman's.  (That list really runs the gamut!)

In the last year and a half, I stopped being able to digest gluten.  Every once in a while, I'll treat myself to something really good or eat it if that's all that's available to me and I don't want to be a nuisance to a host, but I've otherwise cut it out of my diet completely.  My friend Melissa from high school (who also is gluten-free) recommended we go to Friedman's for brunch last weekend.  While there was a bit of a wait for the table, we shared some fun girl-talk and the menu was chock-full of options for us.  The food was delicious and healthy, and the atmosphere was modern with post and beam woodwork.  I am sure I will return–there is something for everybody here!

  7. I was coming to New York for spring break with my best friend and we wanted to go to a really good brunch place. By using Yelp, we stumbled upon Friedman's and apparently it is one of the best. I guess everyone knew that because we had to wait approximately 45 minutes. I believe the store is expanding because it looks like they bought the store next to them considering they had completely different interior designs.

We were seated in the newly expanded space and we quickly got a nice jar of water and a menu. The menu had a great variety and the waitress told us about the different specials they had as well. While we were waiting to be seated, I saw tons of people ordering  the chicken and waffles and it looked delicious so I opted for that. My friend ordered the special which was some sort of cubed sweet potatoes with shredded pork. I personally didn't like it very much.

This was my first time having fried chicken and waffles and I absolutely loved the combination. The food took approximately 15 minutes. On top of a really big waffle was three pieces of fried chicken that were really tender and perfectly seasoned, it wasn't salty. I loved how this wasn't just a regular waffle but it was cheddar waffle!! The waffle had a nice orange colour to it, and this dish was huge, I could only finish 3/4 of it.

I highly recommend this place, but do try to come at a less busy time!

  8. Was soooo tempted to get the chicken & waffles, but I held back. Wasn't a cheat day for me and I was going on vacation the next week and it required wearing a bikini, so yeah. I'll probably be back to try that in the winter, where every day is my cheat day.

Anyway, came here with a friend for brunch one weekend. The wait was about 15-20 minutes long, which wasn't too bad. I don't think they take reservations, so it's best to show up earlier if you're going for brunch. Our waiter was very attentive. She took our order immediately and came back periodically to check on us. I ordered the Egg White Scramble and an iced coffee. It was pretty, freakin' delicious. I really enjoyed the blueberry butter as well. It's a nice surprise that I didn't anticipate. Potatoes were also good, but they were a bit crunchy for me.

Overall, I had a great experience. I can't wait to come back and try the chicken & waffles next time!
