Friendly's is a blast from the past for me. They are few and far between, but when I am close by one, it's a tiny bit of nostalgia. This particular location is in NJ, just right over the Rockland County, NY border. It's a small location and was packed on Tuesday night. Be prepared to wait. They had two servers for the entire restaurant but they did a fantastic job.
As for the food, let's be honest, people really come here for the ice cream sundaes. However, since you can't have dessert without eating your dinner first, be ready for just basic mediocre diner type food. My friends got chicken wraps and burgers with fried, while I opted for an entree salad with chopped egg, tomatoes, cucumber, mixed greens and tortilla strips. It was surprisingly fresh with crisp veggies and flavorful honey mustard dressing.
As for the sundaes, so many choices…from the Pre-Configured to the build our own, with endless ice cream and topping variations. Their small sundae is plenty and I opted for vanilla for yo, hot fudge and whipped cream. Simple and yummy.
Overall, this is a decent location. Hope it stays open as one of the last remaining Friendly's in the area.
I fondly remember the days of going here when I was in elementary school diagonally across from this place. It was a good hangout back then, we didn't cause trouble like the kids nowadays though! It was either here or Sizzler, which is now a Wendy's. I was here a few months back and realized I never wrote up on this place. There really isn't much to write though. The service is horrendous, no attention to detail, the ice cream is pretty good though. I've limited myself to this place to getting ice cream and leaving. That's all it's good for in my opinion. Even that though they are pretty awful at. It gets crowded in the warmer months obviously so it's a nightmare.
I was pleasantly surprised! Everything went very smoothly. We were immediately greeted with a smile and were seated with our choice between two spots. We went pretty late, about 8:30 pm on a Monday night so it wasn't too busy. Our waitress was friendly and got everything spot on, without even writing anything down. Like most people who grew up around here, I have many great childhood memories! The ice cream was to die for, I got the peanut butter cup sundae yum yum yum! Will go back again and hope to have another good experience 🙂
Traditional ice cream shop. Prices are eh for what you are getting, and service is eh.
