The food is cheap, but you get what you pay for. My turkey club supermelt ($8.99) was pretty average – turkey, tomato, bacon, melted cheese, and thousand island dressing on toasted bread. The mashed potatoes that came on the side tasted like the instant powder kind and were very unappetizing. My super melt also came with a free 2-scoop, 1-topping sundae, so my friend and I decided to split it. We got a scoop each of pistachio and hunka chunka PB fudge, topped with chocolate sauce. Our sundae took a while to come out, and came warm and half-melted. Yuck. The pistachio also tasted a little weird, a little too artificial, though I liked the PB fudge.
The service was generally pretty slow too, though our server did apologize about it (she said they were trying to train two new servers).
I only came here because my friend wanted to try it, and I probably wouldn't come back again. The menu also lists the calories of each item – almost every entree is at least 1000 calories, so this is definitely not the place to go if you're on a diet.
Theres something about Friendly's that you just can't leave in the 90's…or 80's. I loved coming here as a kid and ordering a grilled cheese sandwich and sundae. The locations are all dated and in need of a renovation yet they're so timeless and nostalgic. After all, it is the home of the monster size sundae.
For Mother's Day my friend and I treated ourselves and daughters to Ice Cream Sundaes after bowling nearby at Sheridan Lanes. There were no crazy lines and we were seated comfortably. My friend ordered the Brownie Sundae and I had the Reeses Pieces Sundae. The girls had Oreo sundae and M & Ms sundae. The candy combos are irresistible! I love the options for the monster size boats that can be shared amongst 5 people and banana splits.
This is not some fancy Parlor with designer furniture and fresh paint. It's Friendly's. No frills sundaes and grill cheese sandwiches.
The service was good and the super sized sundaes were very good.
I'm always scratching my head why Friendly's has as few stars as it does. This place always brings me back to my youth and the food is as good as many other chains. This time they were offering a two for twenty deal which was your choice of entrees and either a dessert or appetizer. My pepper jack burger wasn't cooked to order, but was still pretty tasty. Fries were mediocre. Love that hunka-chunka Pb fudge flavor ice cream.
Can't remember the last time I was in a friendlys. Admittedly, this is intentional on my part. However, when your mid-30s boyfriend makes his adult rec baseball league All Star team and you schlep all the way out to Long Island in a shirt displaying his name in puffy paint to bear witness to the momentous occasion alongside his adoring family, it is a special set of circumstances. What does one do in the suburbs at 11:30pm after a wholesome evening of adult rec baseball to wile out? Ice cream! Enter friendlys.
We walked in and the place has a 1970s middle America quaintness with the wooden booths and the green carpeting. The decor is dated but it almost *almost* adds a cool nostalgia factor. They were closing shortly after our arrival, but did not make us feel rushed in any way. I had the hunka chunka pb lava cake sundae. Unfortunately, the nutrition information was on the menu, but I obviously did not allow that to influence my selection (1710 calories, in case you're wondering). The sundae was just what one expects, an homage to ice cream excess with pb and fudge sauces generously drizzled over three heaping scoops of ice cream and the aforementioned pb lava cake. Was it the most creamy premium ice cream ever? No. Was the lava cake freshly baked and moist? No. But it hit the spot. My fellow diners enjoyed equally over-the-top Reese's pieces sundaes and some tasty looking blended concoctions. The server was attentive, offering drink refills and making sure the sundaes were to our liking.
It's Friendlys. Nothing fancy here. But if you're looking to scratch that sugar itch or are nostalgic for simpler family friendly times, not a bad spot – just try not to look at the calorie counts!
I have no idea where to start. The place is in bad shape for starters. Just doesn't look clean aka I lost my appetite when I walked in. If that wasn't bad enough, the waitresses name tag said "sexy lexy"…if she wants that to be her name, she should work on a street corner, NOT a "family" restaurant. I thought it was strange the manager didn't find that nametag to be unprofessional. Just an overall bad experience. Definitely wont be coming back to "friendly's"
The food is mediocre. Come on, it's a Friendly's. It's not going to be the best thing your taste buds ever encounter. Don't expect anything amazing. It's average, but that's okay because you are going for something familiar, fast, and good. What makes this Friendly's worthy of a review is the service. There are two ladies there who are super nice. They take the time to explain the menu to you and if you ask for substitutions she will kindly oblige. Even when the substitution isn't available, she'll offer other options. Super kind service a a fast food-type chain. That's really does warrant praise.
Worst establishment I've ever been to! After 10 minutes I felt like calling that restaurant rescue show!! We waited very long for drinks- fountain drinks! We waited long for food. I asked for a turkey avocado wrap w no bacon, first bite I take- bacon!! Asking for no bacon & getting bacon is a serious issue!! I told the waiter, & immediately got another one, with an extra side I didn't need. I heard different waiters around me constantly apologizing to their tables for the long wait or the screw ups. It was insanity. I ended up taking half my wrap home. When I take a few bites @ home- a long black hair is caught between my lettuce & sauce!! I am disgusted, over & done with Friendly's Mineola!!! Ugghhh!
Service is horrible!!!
– Hostess was nowhere to be found, and because of that we waited about 5-10 minutes before being seated, even though there were so many empty tables.
– We asked for water from the hostess, but she never came back to bring them out.
– We waited 10-15 minutes before we had to flag down the waitress to take our orders and ask for water again.
(Water finally came, but oh my god, it was disgusting! Shouldn't Long Island tap water be similar to NYC water? This tasted like water straight from the sewer. None of us touched it after the first sip.)
Anyway, continuing on:
– My group was only ordering ice cream sundaes, but somehow we waited 25-30 minutes for our orders to come out. I mean, seriously? How long does it take for you to scoop 4 orders of ice cream and sprinkle toppings?
– Our sundaes finally came, but half of them were melted. Clearly someone forgot to bring it out in time, so our sundaes could've come out 10-15 minutes earlier than it did. Orange sherbert is just not the same when it's a soup.
One good note: at least the ice cream tasted good, but it would've been more delicious had it not been melted.
Definitely not coming back!
