This place is right down the street from where I live. There aren't any other restaurants on this stretch of Humboldt either, so it's the sole restaurant in this other residential street.
I've eaten here a few times in the past. The portions are HUUUUGE! The prices are pretty reasonable, especially when you consider how much food you get. It's pretty dependent on what you decide to get since there meat entrees tend to be quite pricey but the pasta dishes are all fairly affordable. I usually get the eggplant parm, which also comes with your choice of pasta on the side. The service is fairly quick and I've usually been seated right away whenever I decide to go.
I go in whenever I'm especially famished and it'll usually curb my appetite. You'll leave feeling immensely full of marinara sauce and carbs.
I've been looking forward to visiting Frost for quite some time. Frost has been my best friend and her family's go to Italian restaurant for ages. I finally had the chance to go on Sunday night and it was just as good as I expected!
We started out a small order or baked clams, which were awesome!! I then got an order of the veal alla casa and my friend had chicken alla casa. The sauce was excellent! Really difficult to explain, but similar to a vodka sauce (a little thinner) with butter and oil.
I'm so excited that I finally had the chance to visit Frost and I can't wait to visit again. I had my eye on the linguini and clam sauce.. I'm definitely trying it next time!
Excellent food. This is definitely home-style, country Italian feel. The neighborhood family Italian restaurant to be more specific.
Portions are great. Huge liquor bar but the wine selection is a little thin (4 reds and 4 whites, but nothing that really jumps out). Great appetizers.
I'm not a fan of Italian food, but this is good Italian food. The wait was short, the dining room was inviting, and the food was comforting.
The in-house pasta lasagna was pretty good (not as great as the one from Amore Pizzeria in Whitestone, but still pretty good). I think the meat inside could have been better, texture-wise.
Their veal sorrentine was actually quite delicious: moist, flavorful, melts in your mouth.
I wouldn't mind trying more items off the menu next time I drop by Williamsburg.
Frost is a great, simple neighborhood restaurant. I haven't gotten to try their seafood yet, and admittedly I kept it fairly simple when I went there, but everything I had was great. Their Chicken Condina was perfectly spiced, and their tomato sauce was simplistic and amazing. Good atmospere and service, what else can you ask for? Warning: don't be a dickhead and try to eat ones of the complimentary hot peppers too fast.
The food was great. This is an old world Italian. I had linguini with clam sauce which was delicious. The service was great.
I don't get it.
I've lived across the street from this joint for several years and the steady stream of customers is completely mystifying. Like we're talking every luxury SUV and tricked out minivan in the tri-state area clogging up Humboldt while giant parties of people ranging in age from 5 to 125 (ok I can't verify that anyone's 125) slowly herd in and out the front door with balloons for Gramma's birthday or something.
My man and I have tried this place several times, because it's ACROSS THE STREET, and sometimes you forget that you were underwhelmed when it's ACROSS THE STREET, but I've never had a great (or even very good) meal. Or terribly friendly service. And listening to my father-in-law whine through our entire meal because their air conditioner was broken in the middle of the balls-hot summer was not fun, but trying to eat dinner in a stifling garlic sauna wasn't awesome either.
I guess for me the problem was that I don't like watery pasta sauce and I don't like overly mushy eggplant and that is all I've ever experienced here. Maybe they're cooking everything inside an actual steam bath. My husband has repeatedly tried to like their seafood sauces before remembering that he actually doesn't like eating sand. I DON'T GET IT. There are like at least 3 other similarly themed Eye-talian spots within spitting distance that serve better food and have friendlier service so what's the big deal about this spot, did I miss the part where they give you a free pony with any entree? This is the closest thing to Little Italy-Style Crap Food For Unsuspecting Tourists that we have in this neighborhood.
