  1. Fuji is my go to sushi place for cheap 3 roll sushi $9.99. My usual is spicy tuna, spicy salmon and salmon or tuna with avocado. It's 2 blocks away from my hubsy's condo and whenever we run out of ideas or are just feeling lazy, we call for pick up and in 20 min, we are usually home with sushi.

The rice to fish ratio is to my liking – not too much rice and more fish and avocado. The spicy rolls don't have avocado which I wish they would add as option but when it's in there, they are not skimping on the fish or the avocado.

Hand rolls are $2.50 and there's a list of sushi and sashimi that are only $1 each! Last night, we actually went in for a sit down meal and the $1 sushi/sashimi deal is awesome. When you order the sashimi version, they will give you a thicker slice vs. if you got a sushi. Uni is on the $1 sushi/sashimi list! along with a bunch of regular fish. There are some for $2 (spicy tuna/salmon etc).

Great place to get cheap sushi. The pricing is kinda wacky though so do the math yourself. For example, they had sushi/sashimi combos where it came out to be a couple $'s more expensive than if you order the $1 sushi/sashimi's separately – though with the combos, you get soup or salad.

  2. I come here regularly for the AYCE sushi. We always buy the Groupon which is $29 for 2 hours of all you can eat sushi, appetizers, some entrees and 3 beers, sake, wine or soda. A bargain since it's regularly $44. Your whole table has to order the AYCE; no exceptions. They'll have the people who want to order a la cart sit at a separat table. Also, kids 12 and under are $13.00.
I like the fact that you order and they make the sushi or dish as you order. The sushi isn't sitting there for hours, like at a buffet. The selection is pretty awesome as well. They offer scallop and sweet shrimp, which is rare for an AYCE spot. The quality is great too. It's definitely fresh. You can also get uni for an additional $1.50 and toro (yup crazy right?) for an additional $2.00. The toro isn't the highest of quality but it's still good. The entrees they offer are good as well. They have hibachi, teriyaki, tonkatsu and tempura. Just a warning: the portions for the entree are big. Don't go overboard when ordering, otherwise you'll get charged for not finishing.
My only complaint is that there is way too much rice for the portion of sushi. Also, it would be nice if they included dessert.

  3. Although I've lived across the street from Fuji for many years, I just tried it for the first time recently. I was pleasantly surprised with the food- I got the Fuji roll which has shrimp tempura on the inside, and avocado and some type of sauce on the top. I would definitely go back and reorder this. The place was very crowded on a Saturday night, every single table was full but we only had to wait about 5 minutes. The restaurant is also pretty inexpensive most likely because of it's location on Queens Boulevard. However, I have to give Fuji 3 stars because the service was not good and the waiters were very inattentive.

  4. Food: 3 / 5
    Service: 1.5 / 5
    Decor: 3.5 / 5
    Value: 4 / 5 (Groupon Buffet Deal)
    Average Rating: 3 / 5

Food – overall impression of all you can eat menu items was positive. However, the quality and freshness of the fish raised concerns in some rolls that we ordered, particularly ones containing  squid.

Service – Nobody should be treated as a second class citizen, but that's exactly how I felt while dining at Fuji with a friend. We were seated immediately as the restaurant was  empty when we arrived. The waitress placed two regular menus on the table and seemed polite, but that quickly changed when we mentioned we had bought the Groupon deal, which prompted her to remove the regular menu and come back with the buffet menu. Upon return a minute later, she dictated that tax and tip are not included and that we will be charged full price for any piece or rice that is left unfinished. The frown on her face while telling us the rules of the menu foreshadowed how we were going to be serviced the rest of the night. On our first order she commanded that my friend slow down in reading what we wanted. Our second order went without much commentary. Our third and last order prompted her to remind us that we had to pay for food that we didn't finish, which would've been appreciated if she had not said so with such an accusatory tone. While on Yelp, I realized the restaurant offered free ice cream for anyone who checked in, but instead of receiving cold ice cream, I received a cold excuse for why that offer didn't apply to me (it was only for "regular" customers). It should also be noted that I saw other tables receiving assorted plates of fruit as a complimentary dessert, but after my checkin deal was rejected, I knew asking about the assorted plate would prove fruitless. I generally do not have high service expectations for restaurants operating at Fuji's caliber, but I believe the restaurant should treat every customer with courtesy and respect, which was absent from my experience at Fuji.

Decor – the seating booths add a  Japanese feel to the restaurant. Overall setup is comfortable and lighting is good.

Value – at $26, the groupon deal offered a great value for an AYCE experience, which includes three alcoholic beverages (you can choose from: Sake, Sapporo, or Wine).

Verdict – the food is good enough to stomach and inexpensive for sushi. However, quality/freshness of fish and service is compromised as a result. I felt like an unwanted diner and will not visit Fuji again because of the way I was treated.

  5. I've been here 3 times for the "All You Can Eat Sushi" 2 hour deal which I purchased on Groupon for $28 each. All 3 times that I have been here the staff has always been very polite and pleasant. My food arrived at the table in a timely manner and they definitely help you to pace yourself. The deal included 3 beverages (alcoholic or non-alcoholic) so I usually spend my first hour eating and the second hour having a few beers if my stomach is still up for it.

The sushi here are pretty decent. The Fuji Roll is very delicious and plated so beautifully always. I intend to come back in the future to dine here but it will only be for AYCE because that's what's really worth it here.

Tip: They charge you if you waste food. Pace yourself accordingly.

  6. A friend called me out last minute for dinner because a 2-hour AYCE groupon was expiring that night (Original Price is $44/pp and it is so not worth it full priced). Why? What kind of AYCE place doesn't include sashimi…especially for that price? Basically, all they really do is stuff you with rice or charge you extra for wasted food. Throughout the night, we made it a game to came up with very creative ways to hide the rice and the things we did not like. The deal came with 3 drinks (beer, sake, wine, soda), a variety of appetizers, entrees, sushi, and specialty rolls. The sushi is ordered by pieces and you can't order more than 1 specialty roll per person at a time. It takes forever for the sushi to come to you, so order while you're still eating. I honestly think they do it on purpose. I wouldn't say it was a bad meal, but it was certainly nothing to write home about.

PS – skip the calamaris (it was very rubbery).

  7. After a long day of work, my coworker offers to bring me to try this AYCE Japanese sushi restaurant that she got a deal for in Groupon. The deal was $22 for AYCE plus a choice of 3 beers or hot sakes. It was totally worth the price! The food here is not out of this world but it was pretty decent.
For appetizers, we ordered the calamari, mussels, grilled calamari, salmon skin salad, and chef's salad. You can never go wrong with calamari. The grilled calamari was actually a whole calamari and it was great. The salmon skin salad and chefs salad were very typical.
For the main food, we ordered the hibachi shrimp, teriyaki salmon, 3 pieces of eel, 1 piece of mackeral, 1 piece of yellowtail, and 2 salmon. We also ordered a spider roll and oyster tempura roll. The sushi pieces were pretty fresh and had a good portion of rice. The hibachi shrimp was delicious with big shrimp. The salmon was also a good choice since it consisted of 2 pieces of salmon and a mix of zuchinni and other grilled vegetables. The rolls were a bit sloppy but tasted good.
Overall, I'd definately come back especially with the Groupon deal!

  8. We used a groupon to try out this place. AYCE + 3 beer (or sake or soda) for 2 hours. They offer the AYCE option on their menu, but it's honestly not worth doing at the full price.

You are only allowed to order 2 rolls per person each round. I understand why they do this, however, they were so slow to take orders. We had to constantly flag someone down (we can eat a lot of sushi & we eat fast). The options on their AYCE menu is pretty good, though. You can select from regular sushi rolls to their specialty rolls, sashimi, and different entrees. The fish was pretty fresh and the rolls were good. I wouldn't come again for the AYCE menu, but I would  come for their sushi again.
