  1. I have yet to be impressed with anything that David Chang has produced as a chef, so my expectations going into Fuku+ were already low. Sure, I'd heard good things about the fried chicken sandwich that stemmed from the original East Village eatery and sure, some of the menu items sounded tempting. But after a little persuasion, I agreed to make a trip here to at least give Fuku+ a fighting chance.

First and foremost, the venue is confusingly located behind the Momofuku Milk Bar located above Momofuku Ma Peche. It's set up to resemble a casual bar, with a number of seats against the counter, as well as a handful of high-tops meant for groups of two or four. Seating and ordering can get muddled between the two areas, as we were instructed to order at the bar even though there was evident table service. Adding to this confusion was the fact that one of the four items that we'd ordered had been incorrectly entered; we received Jalapeno Fries instead of our requested Chicken Sandwich.

As for the food? The Juicy Lucy was smaller than expected and overcooked; while the center of melted pimento cheese was tasty… how could it not have been? The Sichuan Pork Flatbread was probably the most edible item we got, but the ground pork on top had no similarity in flavor or preparation to anything from Sichuan. The Jalapeno Fries failed to impress in both the spice department and in execution; the edges were slightly soggy and the seasoning left much to be desired. And the Mission Chinese Fingers? The chicken was overcooked and dry, and while the spice mix had some recognizable flavors and ingredients, couldn't save the nearly inedible protein. Couple that with a higher than average check average, and we walked away far less happier than when we walked in.

In literally all aspects of a dining experience – the environment, service, and food – Fuku+ failed to deliver. Once again, a David Chang establishment disappointed – but then again, what else was I expecting?

  2. The restaurant is located behind Milk Bar. I actually wanted to come in to try the Mission Chinese Fuku Fingers, but they no longer had them. I settled for the Sweet & Spicy Fuku Fingers instead. They were meaty with a sticky glaze and overall I thought they were just ok. If you're a David Chang fan, go anyways.

  3. I love the east village location so i wandered up to this midtown spot, which has a wider menu, probably owing to the fact that ma peche is underneath. If uve been to either of these places, then you know the vibe is underwhelming. Its not as put together and the crowd is mostly suits.

If you look past that the sweet and spicy chicken strips are really good here. A nice blend of spices, thick pieces of meat, cooked well. It doesnt even need the ssam sauce, its good as is. Usually chicken needs dipping sauces but this doesnt. Im pretty sure they dont have this kind of chicken strips at the dt location.

  4. the food was tasty/ok, service very nice, and space was cool to hang out. you are actually sitting in the balcony alcove to the restaurant below and the noise does carry up. while i agree its a nice experience, the serving size and pricing really doesn't justify the $3 fries that could have been from anywhere else…

  5. I've been here two times. The first time I went, I had the juicy luicy, which is no longer on the menu :'(. It is basically a really delicious burger with cheese in the middle. My friend had the crispy chicken sandwich, which was everything a fried chicken sandwich should be.

This is definitely a cute little place that is tucked behind a hotel on 56th street. On both occasions, it was not busy.

  6. I came here for lunch because I heard how wonderful the fried chicken sandwich is. It was pretty good but definitely not worth the hype. I got the one with white meat chicken so maybe it's better in the dark meat version. The bread reminds me of my middle school cafeteria and it was pretty cold. The chicken fingers in the sandwich were also pretty cold. Their house fuku sauce was a bit weird and though I normally love house sauces, I just wanted ketchup. I did really enjoy their spicy fries. They had a weird taste and definitely way too much salt that left me bloated for a day but they were pretty good. The prices here are just right and it seems like a nice place for kids too. We had some ice cream by the Milk Bar on the way out so it's nice that you have that option as well!

  7. David Chang does it again! Fuku+ is a solid addition to the Momofuku brand. I was pleasantly surprised how delicious the Spicy Chicken Sandwich was. The sandwich was well seasoned and a bit spicy; however, it paired well with the Ssam sauce. Honestly, I think could've taken a little more heat from the sandwich.

Another awesome part of the meal was that between the sandwich and the fries, it would only cost you around $12.

  8. My 2 buddies and i met up here for a quick bite to eat and a beer or two.  This place is behind the Momofuku Milk Bar that is for desserts so just remember that b/c you can pick up something from there and get going afterwards if you have a sweet tooth.

So we showed up and got a table in the dimly lit back area where it is Fuku+ – we ordered a chicken sandwich for each of us, loaded fries and some sort of fish dip…and a bucket of beer.  But little did we know a bucket of beer was a bucket of cans.  We were pretty disappointed by that, but beer is beer right?

Anyway – the food is pretty good – the chicken sandwich was expected and very good.  The loaded fries were alright – nothing super special and lastly the fish dip came with pork rinds and you put the dip on it and eat.  It was tasty, but nothing amazing in my opinion.

I'll only come back for the chicken sandwich!  Which is the main draw…that and beer.
