Tiny, cozy place in Hell's Kitchen. Noise level is pretty high since the tables are so close together. I sample different pasta dishes and all were yummy. Carbonara was my fave. We had different breads for appetizer, and they were also pretty good. Three stars for the inattentive service and expensive wine list. Most wines were in the $40 – $50 range with one or two choices in the upper $30s.
After several sub par meals in the city, I craved a good meal. My friend suggested Gallo Nero and she saved the day with this recommendation.
It was cool when I visited and the restaurant had the glass doors open so the breeze came through the restaurant. It was a perfect way to have al fresco dining indoors. The staff was prompt and courteous.
Although there were a few items on the menu which looked appealing the specials of the night really caught our attention. My friend and I each ordered one so that we could taste both. My friend ordered spinach ravioli stuffed with ricotta with shrimp and a pesto sauce. This was my fave! the handmade ricotta were a good size and stuffed with fresh ricotta. The pesto sauce was creamy and delicious. It was very filling as well. I ordered the fettuccine with crab, artichokes and asparagus in a rosa cream sauce. This dish was very good and nicely flavored. I am not however a fan of canned artichokes because of the vinegary flavor they get after sitting in the brine over time. Also the crab added an essence but there were not any visible pieces in the pasta. They must have used blue crab or crab pieces instead of lump.
Even with my small critiques both of the dishes we ordered were great. I would definitely return to this restaurant again in the future!
The food was good, but nothing was exceptional. My favorite part of the meal was our crostini. The menu is very basic otherwise and nothing really popped out at me. We ate family style, so I tried the pork scaloppine, meatballs, short ribs and a pasta dish. Again, decent meal. but nothing I was craving to come back and try again. We tried a cheesecake for dessert, which wasn't bad. As an Italian restaurant, I wish they had ricotta based cheesecake (true Italian style) instead of the American, cream cheese style.
I can't believe I've lived in the kitchen for 5 years and never tried this place….my bad. My sis was coming up for some wine and dine last Tuesday and we wanted to stay local. I'm all about never repeating unless my socks are lying on the floor so I figured I'd try this place. We walked in to a super cozy atmosphere. Everyone that works here is so inviting, they even let two of us sit at a 4 top….score. We had a glass at my place so we didn't want to commit to a bottle. Our waiter was very accommodating by me try a few reds before I chose a glass, the super Tuscan for me and the aglianico for my sis. We wanted to split everything so we went with the tre colore, super yummy with a great lemony dressing and one of the pasta specials, orchiette with sausage, tomato and broccoli rabe, fantastic. We ended up staying and gabbing for awhile and no one bothered us. This definitely is a neighborhood gem and my new fav Italian in the hood…
There food is very fresh but with that being said make sure you have enough time to eat it! They have amazing lunch specials and great happy hours. I love the female greeter in the beginning she is very friendly. I love the ambiance of the place. They could rip up a few fake flowers in the flower pots it detracts from the real ones. It does take a while to get the check so ask when ur food comes out and bring cash.
Lovely Italian restaurant in Hell's Kitchen near the Theater District. My friend and I were able to have a delicious meal in just about an hour so that we could make curtain for A DELICATE BALANCE.
We started with the mozzarella and tomato appetizer, which was fresh and simple. For main courses, my friend tried the gnocchi and I had a seafood pasta which was delicious. We both cleaned our plates, and the portions were quite big!
I would absolutely go back for a pre-show meal!
This place is really cute and romantic, and the service is friendly. I appreciated that they gave us a table even though we were only there for drinks. The wine is pretty expensive at up to $14 per glass and bottles $40-50 minimum, but the glass I did have was very drinkable.
The bruschetta plate we ordered unfortunately wasn't very good; we got the trio which comes with two each of tomato, mushroom, and white bean bruschetta, none of which we liked. Ordering it was confusing in itself — the menu makes it look like each line is it's own bruschetta, but actually each line describes multiple toasted breads that come together. I tried to clarify this before ordering because some of the combinations seemed to clearly not go together on one piece of bread, but our server insisted insisted they did indeed.
Clearly it was a miscommunication, because the trio came out as 3 different types as I'd expected they should have. As I said earlier, the service is very friendly so I can't complain — just an observation about the menu organization!
If there's a happy hour I'd try this place again for its good wine, atmosphere, and friendly staff. For food, just stick to the bread on the table.
Great little gem in the theater district, perfect for right before a show.
Ambiance – very quaint and romantic.
Drinks- Solid wine list!
Apps- had the prosciutto spek- very tasty!
