  1. We came here for lunch and ordered the bibim naengmyun and the mool naengmyun lunch specials, which both came with bbq ribs. Considering how much meat we got compared to the regular meal price, it is definitely a good deal. The naenmyun wasn't the best–the noodles were not chewy naengmyun noodles and seemed kind of stale, if noodles can get stale. More like they'd been sitting out too long and got bloated. The kimchi was probably one of the better kimchis that I've had in ktown. Service was also pretty slow. Good deal, good kimchi, okay food.

  2. Came here at around 3:30AM last night (on a Sunday night going into Monday) with my boyfriend after a night at Webster Hall. This was one of the few things open on a Sunday night so we decided to try this place. It's on the second floor and the interior is really nice. It looked kind of lavish and it was definitely very clean. It was also pretty spacious- (the layout of the restaurant was used to its full potential). We ordered
    1) Mul Naengmyun ($13): a vinegar based cold soup dish, which is often made with soba noodles. This was by far the best Naengmyun that we've tasted. It tasted a little different than the ones you get elsewhere and the noodles were even different. It was a lighter brown in color and thinner (compared to the usual noodles). We'll definitely be coming back here again throughout the summer to satisfy our Naengmyun cravings.
    2) Seafood Pancake (haemul pajun) w/ Makgeolli ($20): the fluffiest seafood Pancake that we've tried so far. Usually, the seafood pancakes are rather thin.
TLDR; one of our new favorite spots that we'll definitely be coming back to. Every thing that we tasted last night was super fresh and was high in quality.

  3. Wow, let's talk about top-notch customer service!

My friend and I were walking around K-Town and decided to try a new spot. Gammeeok came up as a top result in a Yelp search so we decided to give it a try. The restaurant is located on the second floor and as soon as we walked up the stairs we were greeted by the friendly maître d and seated immediately.

The ambiance is hip and trendy with wood panels and attractive warm lighting. The music was spot on — I don't care what you say, Drake makes the mood right.

Both my friend and I knew we were going to order bibimbap and the waiter was great in making recommendations. We also ordered the bulgogi taco appetizers. They were okay. I liked the taco shell more than the bulgogi itself. I had the hot stone bibimbap, which was flavorful, but I thought it needed more meat and next time I would order a second egg.

I would come here again given the delightful service and the ambiance. I wasn't wowed by the food, but overall I thought it was good. Also, this staff knows how to work as a team. Any time we needed something whoever was closest had no issue assisting us. I imagine they pool their tips, but either way, these good folks never let our eyes wander for a server for long.

  4. I've been consistently disappointed with K-town food in Manhattan. This was no different. Fine but nothing special. The tartare was good. The beef brisket was bland. The kalbi was nice.

  5. 3.5 Stars for the seolleongtang and kimchi.

Second floor on top of the very popular Five Senses. Seems to get way less customers (maybe because of the location?). Usually never a long wait (5mins at most).

Come here for the seolleongtang. Period. This place has the cheapest and fastest Seolleongtang experience. Add salt/pepper to your taste. I also really appreciate their kimchi and radish. They put it in a large earthenware(?) jar and let you have as much as you want. I love doing the cutting myself!

They have a pretty good lunch special menu as well. Really like their bibim naemyung. Really refreshing – would come back for that.

  6. Gammeeok is a restaurant located in the heart of Koreatown in New York City.

I was first introduced to "Gahm Mi Oak" (yelp.com/biz/gahm-mi-oak…) and remembered eating here after a night out on the town with their famous Sul Long Tang (beef soup) and their "crunchy" kimchee.

Apparently Gahm Mi Oak closed its original location after 25 years in January 2015 and opened its new location on the 2nd floor above "Five Senses" in August 2015.  I'm pleased to report that the Sul Long Tang (beef soup) and their "crunchy" kimchee is just as I had remembered.  MUST GET ITEMS.  For the beef soup – add salt to flavor to your tastebuds / preferences!

The only difference to me is the atmosphere.  The atmosphere at the old location was more "traditional korean" and this new location appears to be more "modern".

    ENJOY!!

  7. As previously stated by Yelper Jocy C, Gammeeok was previously Gahm Mi Oak located next to Hotel Stanford. Back in the day, Gahm Mi Oak was BOMB. Their kkaakdugi (Korean picked radish) was placed at every table in a black stone pot and was always made to perfection.

Gammeeok has done a pleasant job of recreating that same experience into a more modern experience.

I've tried most of their mneu items on their menu and would agree that their Sul Long Tang and Naeg Myun are your go-tos when dining in.

Also note, they kept the Sul Long Tang restaurant feel and do not provide any other banchan (side dishes) other than their delicious kkaakdugi.

  8. Good place for Korean buckwheat noodle and traditional tang (stew) with rice.
I would recommend this place if you are in the mood for those two. Really nothing special.
    Their kimchi pancake was YUMS!
