  1. The service is a bit hit or miss here.  The food and prices are both average.  The only reason I go back to this restaurant is for the crab ban chan which is pretty yummy.  Some might find it unbearably salty, but I assume it's meant to be eaten with rice!  The only other place I can think of that consistently serves crab as part of their regular ban chan menu is Galbi Maeul (review pending second visit).  And yes, you can ask for seconds, and thirds, and….  This is also one of the few korean restaurants out in far eastern Queens, close to LI.  So they get my business purely for location.  But if one is willing to drive just two minutes further into the heart of Queens, an ample selection of delicious korean food awaits!

Nothing special, but a satisfactory destination if the other korean restaurants nearby are too packed.

  2. Terribly disappointing Korean restaurant in a tight squeeze of a strip mall in Little Neck.  It started off promising with a large array of ban chan which were mostly very good.  Except the mackerel with warm kimchi which was fishy and off putting.  Kimchi is just gross warm.  We ordered the bulgogi dol sot and the meat was not even marinated.  Completely flavorless.  Added hot sauce, miso soup and some cold kimchi for flavor but didn't do the trick.  Again, nice ban chan selection but worst bulgogi dol sot I ever had.  I will not be eating here again.  Service was ok but prices for the BBQ are obnoxious.  Entrees are reasonable but for such poor quality, I still couldn't help but feel a bit ripped off.  At least it has free wifi.

  3. The Hangover soup is delicious.  Had the Black Goat soup, The Mackerel,  and the Tripe soup. All were great.

  4. This place is getting a bad rep I'm not completely sure why – as I had a pretty good experience with the wait staff who were extremely courteous and helpful. We had a decent sized group (7) and sometimes it's chaotic, but the staff answered all our questions with the utmost patience and hospitality.

I wouldn't say the decor is the best nor would I say the pricing is either – but the food was decent and I felt the customer service made up for any faults (although there really wasn't too many to begin with).

Memorable things: the Combo B (meant for ~3) – which consisted of 3 meats the most standout being the pork belly (we actually ended up getting another order of it because it wasn't quite enough). I got the Bulgogi Dolsot which has been explained to me is just like bibimbap but on a hot plate. It was $14.99 (dinner price) and I think it was probably the coolest (or hottest) thing I could have ordered. We probably stayed there for 2 hours and the plate was literally still hot and food steaming at the end when I packed some to go.

Small shortcomings: the seating and decoration is very simple which is totally okay, but if they're trying to compete with other korean places in the area, they're going to have to up the ante a bit to get customers coming more than once! I also think some of the foods weren't the most appetizing like some of the small plates and the steamed egg (which tasted funny to me I can't figure out why though).  Lastly, seafood pancake is something people order all the time but restaurants don't always get right (on my opinionated deliciousness scale). I felt it was kind of bland at this place – so I wouldn't really recommend it myself.

All-in-all I'd give this place 3 stars (which I think originally if I just base this off food – I'd give it 2) because I can't stress enough how important customer service is for a restaurant. a few small tweaks and I think this place would definitely have some potential!

    halfchow!~

  5. This is probably the second time I visited this restaurant within a few years. Let me start out by saying I am unsure if the owner and/or the main cook of this spot has changed during the past few years, but I was very disappointed with my visit here tonight.

I live in NJ, so going out to Queens area to meet up with my relatives (we are a big group over 15 usually) for a grand dining experience  (I don't order a lot of KBBQ stuff but when I do, it's when I go out with my family and relatives) is something I really look forward to.

Here are a few things I was very disappointed with this restaurant this evening:

    1) The quality of the meat just wasn't there. Apparently they had a discounted price for marinated pork ribs which we ordered in a large quantity, but I was surprised at how dull they tasted; they tasted rubbish.

    2) By the time my family got to the spot after sitting on the road with a heavy traffic especially a day before the Father's day, we were not served water, basic side dishes as you would expect in ANY Korean restaurants,  steamed egg custard and a soybean paste soup.

Their excuse in their defense was "the kitchen is very busy tonight." Well, how do we as customers supposed to know and understand that? Maybe hire a few more line cooks if that's the case?

    3) What's more, even though the restaurant didn't seem THAT busy, I have only seen two waitresses. And you would know what that translates into… yes, forever long wait time for any kind of requests you make whether that be more cold water to calm you down or more water to pretty much swallow all the medicore food because you're just hungry and want to get it done and go home already.

At the same time I felt bad for waitresses as they seemed to do their best but they just couldn't handle all the customers' request not because they are not capable, but because it is impossible for them to do all the things simultaneously while helping with cooking the meat on multiple grills. After all, they only have 2 hands.

However, there were a few side dishes which I thought were pretty decent:

    1) Crab marinated in soy sauce- Oh oh! I would give this at least 3.5/5 stars if I could rate it separately!

    2) Spicy sautéed squid- I love these. 4/5 easily.

    3) Potato salad- 5/5! Who hates potatoes?!! It's hard to make any potato recipes to taste rubbish.

Bottom line, I would not recommend this place for anyone looking to experience KBBQ for the first time.
