Some friends picked this place on a sunday afternoon. The place has an indoor area, but the nice part is the outdoor garden in the back.
First sign of trouble was the 40+ minutes it took for the food to come out (couple of chicken wraps and a grilled chicken dish)… There were probably 3 other tables when we got there and the place has 15+ tables. One of my friends sent their dish back because it was beyond bland. I was about to cancel my order because it took so damn long.
After i finally get my chicken wrap, it tasted like cold rubbery chicken and they charge $11 for that! Needless to say, I'm not coming back here… Its a shame because the patio is really nice, but otherwise not up to par.
This sweet little spot was a welcome oasis for us after moving my sister in to her apartment down the street.
Although it was drizzly, we opted to sit out back on their covered patio. It was cooler & very pleasant.
Our server Randy was accommodating & boasted a friendly, positive personality.
To start, I ordered an IPA I hadn't heard of before. I believe happy hour runs until 6 & all beers, (most?) wines & even the sangrias are $5. This is a great deal, especially given that several of the beers are upwards of $8 or $9 outside of happy hour.
I had such a taste for sushi grade tuna, so I ordered the Grilled Sashimi Tuna Wrap with baby spinach, wasabi dressing, tomato & caramelized onions. It came with French fries, but I swapped them out for a fresh mixed greens salad (an upcharge of $1.50.) The tuna was cooked just as I requested–very rare, barely a sear! The wrap was well-prepared, delicious and substantial enough for me to take one half home for another meal. This dish really hit the mark for me! I can't speak more highly of Garden Café & would happily return.
Staff was friendly but the dessert was the highlight here. I wasn't wowed by the food I had but it was all right. If you're in the area, it's a solid choice for a lunch & wasn't overly crowded though it is a little small.
Not an exhaustive choice on the menu but food tastes good. Don't go for the salads.
Went on a friday night during May. The outdoor seating in the backyard is nice. They could give it a little more umph by adding more fairy lights. I had the seared tuna steak and BF had the sweet potatoe ravioli. Both dishes left much to be desired. The tuna steak was too thick and should have been sliced once more prior to searing. The ravioli was very oily. Our waiter didn't check on us once. It was obvious she did not want to be at work. Overall ambiance is nice. Food is a pass. Would only return for drinks and to sit outside in the spring and summer.
The Garden Cafe offers a really wonderful and spacious outdoor area. One almost forgets they're in NYC! I was part of a table of 12 and we all had a lot of room.
Got myself the chicken salad which was pretty yummy and filling. A fun surprise was that the walnuts were coated in a sugar. I enjoyed their cranberry and orange mimosas, and got to try some of the huevos rancheros (yum!).
The only moment of dislike I had was when I first arrived and I told the staff that I was there for a birthday party. I got there a few minutes early, gave the name of the person the reservation was under, and he was kind of dismissive and told me that she wasn't there yet. He also told me to wait but didn't offer me the opportunity to sit anywhere. It wasn't the warmest exchange. Other than that, enjoyable experience.
Great brunch spot.
Love the food and drinks.
Service can be good depending on who is serving you.
I'm definitely a fan.
Came here for a Saturday brunch last week, as this place came highly recommended by a few friends. It's a cozy little place with a nice ambiance and a cool outdoor seating area. Food was OK. I wasn't crazy about my huevos rancheros: it was definitely lacking in flavor and came with a stale, overcooked tortilla. The applewood bacon looked and tasted like the bacon you'd find at any bodega or corner deli. The hot cocoa was amazing though. Great size and topped with a mound of whipped cream and a few chocolate pralines. I will give this place another shot though, as some of their other brunch plates look more appetizing than mine did. But unfortunately my first meal experience was a little lackluster.
