I was told by the gentleman I had lunch with today that this is a great pizza place. Being spoiled by Huntington's choices of pizza, the phrase "great pizza" is such a challenge. By Long Island standards, Garden City Pizza is high end ok.
The counter people are quite courteous.
The ambience is nice. I like the front end of the pizza joint, it has nice natural light and a pleasant view of Stewart Avenue. It's nicely designed. The back section of the joint is horrendous though. It's a very tight, BUSY corridor. Uncomfortable to get in or out. You're better off entering and leaving through Stewart avenue, but if you're driving, you're most likely going through the back.
Two specialty slices with two drinks cost over 13 dollars. I think that's a bit excessive. I've paid less in Manhattan.
My veggie slice was good and I could tell it had fresh ingredients. The only problem is part of the time you can't hold it like a slice, because it's so top heavy. You'll need utensils to eat it. But at least they give you a lot to munch on with that slice.
This is a hard one for me to rate. It's high end ok. I've had better specialty slices, but nowhere near this neighborhood. Employees are very nice. Pizza is fresh and decent, but I think it's a bit expensive. Overall 3.5 out of 5 for me.
It's good if you're in the neighborhood but if you want pizza and you're heading toward Huntington, it's best to wait.
Grew up in gc and always loved this place.
Had a few regular slices a couple days ago and I know why they are in business like 30 years.
Fast service, high quality ingredients and a clean establishment.
I hope they still do the after school specials for the high schoolers. A great way to drive traffic!
This isn't my favorite pizza place, but every once in a while I love to pick up one of their shrimp parmigiana slices, which is a slice that I have not found anywhere else. This slice is loaded and piled high with breaded shrimps, where it combines with the tomato sauce which makes it infused with the shrimp flavor throughout. All this goodness is topped with mozzarella cheese. It is a pricey slice (currently $5.25), but worth the cost. Sometimes they won't have any of these slices – the chicken parm is similar, but not quite the same. If you get either slice, prepare for a nap afterwards!
The pizza is somewhat inconsistent here where some days it is just incredible then others it is just so so. I really haven't found a rhyme or reason to it, but no matter even on the days it doesn't hit the incredible mark it is usually still good pizza. They also have a great variety available during most times.
Space is a little tight if coming in from the back parking lot, but up towards the front there are 6 booths in this nicely decorated space. They are good with deliveries and they are popular spot in the area. You are sure to find a slice you like here.
Since it's the only pizza in there area, it was pretty packed, with a steady stream of people ordering pizza. There were a few types of specialty pies on the counter, but I opted for the regular. The regular slices didn't do it for me. The crust was kind of gummy and heavy; the sauce tasted more like a pasta sauce than pizza sauce.
Overall the flavors and texture missed the mark for me.
Good food at decent prices and large portions. A group of 8 of us ordered take-out, my order being the Veal Picatta ($16.75) which included 3 large pieces of veal with sun dried tomatoes, capers and artichokes in a butter sauce. The veal was slightly tough and chewy but the pool of butter sauce as well as the capers and artichokes helped to make it quite tasty. But after 5 or 6 bites, I found it to be quite salty, and found myself eating the side of Italian bread for dipping and to clear my palate. Also included is a side of pasta tubes (Ziti) with tomato sauce. Basic tomato sauce warranting nothing special from it, but definitely helped balance the saltiness from the brininess of the capers and artichokes.
We all enjoyed our food very much and was surprised at the very generous portions, with 6 of the 8 of us having leftovers. Even the Garlic Knots were oversized. So if you have a big appetitie, these Italians know how to eat, without the sacrifice of quality.
I am sorry to say, but their pizza is not very good. This is Long Island, we are known for having great pizza! They have to step their game up asap! I tried it once, had two slices, neither had any flavor to speak of, they were dry, small slices which left me extremely disappointed.
Great pizza is a product of great ingredients, made by people who have a passion for making pizza. While not everybody can be as good as Umbertos in New Hyde Park, they should sure be trying to be as good! This place unfortunately misses the mark.
I've been meaning to update my review since my initial review for quite some time. I'm happy to give GCP an official 4 now!
Garden City Pizza has become a nice new staple on our rotation. They're quick with delivery.. good on the phone… reasonable. You know it's a win win.
I have since tried the house salad and although it's basic they do it well and I thoroughly enjoy it. I really enjoy it. I love my little bit of oil and my abundance of vinegar in my small house salad chopped.
I'm happy to say I have found a good solid pizza place in the area of my office. I think if you're in the area (around the courts in Mineola) looking for good pizza or a pretty solid place for salad this is your place.
