  1. Venue: (3/5) the feel is good for a casual bite.  I wouldn't bring a date here.  The air conditioning is blasting and there are streamers hanging which blow with the air conditioning.  It has a feel of a mixed takeout – 'Chinese/Japanese/any Asian food' we can make feel.  Casual eats type of place.

Food (3/5) The sushi was fresh but a bit overpriced.

Yellowtail with Jalapeno (3/5) very thinly cut yellowtail in ponzu sauce.  The jalapeno was inconsistently unseeded.  Some packed a punch with spice, some were spiceless.  Nonetheless good but for 12 dollars, not a competitor with other places.  Overpriced for mediocre.

Peking Duck (1/5) Dry duck in thick pancakes.  Very confused concept.  They should have said duck in bun.

East Harlem Roll (4/5) this was the winner tonight, it was fresh and delicious

Service (1/5) comedic at best.  They forgot an order and handed us a bill twice.  When we told the waitress she forgot our order her response 'Oh, I am not your waitress I am unsure'

    Huh?

Either way this place needs some work but has potential.

  2. Came here on a Sunday around 5pm

Ambience: Place is super small; I am not even sure it holds 20 people. I don't suggest going with a party bigger than 3. Decor is simple and clean. Crowd was diverse including families and young people.

Service: The service can be quite slow. I had to ask for lemon three times for my water but it seems like it was just one waiter working (although a second one joined as we were leaving). Besides his short attention span, the waiter was nice.

Food: My dad had the salmon teriyaki bento box which came with salmon, california rolls, mini dumplings, rice and choice of miso soup or salad. I had the chirashi, which was described as an assortment of fish over rice which I thought was an assortment of sushi. It was actually a couple of pieces of fish, as well as some tofu with some rice on the side. I was hoping the fish portions were bigger, plus it seem like the use the tofu to replace pieces of fish. We also had the tempura green tea ice cream (quite delish) and a mango flavored japanese ice cream (I forgot the name, but on the menu, is the next one after the regular ice cream) and this was quite yummy. Sadly, I was more impressed with the dessert than the main dishes.

Price: Quite reasonable; our bill came to $45.

I wouldn't go all the way uptown for this sushi, but if like myself, you live in the area, it's decent and honestly, your only choice lol.

I wouldn't object to trying other dishes.

  3. Geisha Sushi is a constant go-to for us here since it's conveniently located just a couple blocks from us, has a very nice upscale modern decor and the price is just right!
There are (of course) several vegan options including sweet potato rolls, peanut avocado rolls and more including soups, noodle dishes of Thai and other Asian country descent.
Their 3-roll lunch special is amazing, and just right for 2 people! There are some newcomer Japanese spots to the neighborhood but honestly this place is tough to beat.

  4. As I write this review I'm contemplating wether to order a late night snack, this damned vegan appetite of mine!

This is a very cute restaurant, cute but have plenty of seating! Love supporting local businesses especially when the service is top notch and the food is delicious, not to mention they have plenty of vegan choices whether it's Japanese, or Thai!

On to the food: there are definitely some solid and filling vegan options on the menu. The soba ramen with veggies is scrumptious (large bowl enough for two servings), the pan fried veggie gyoza was flavorful and light, sesame tofu (fried & sautéed) is very good, and lest not forget the tofu pad thai sans egg. I have not tried any of the curry dishes since its made with oyster / fish sauce. The vegan sushi is a bit limited but from the choices we had, the sweet potato and peanut&avocado rolls were the best.

Overall I'm pleased with the quality of food, impeccable service and affordable prices. Easily one of my favorite go to for Japanese food in the area! Even better than my old spot in the uws.

  5. Although the sushi was delish, specially the Latino roll. Their mix drinks on the other hand, are too sweet and lacking in the alcohol department. They forgot to bring my brother his miso soup, which was not cool. Overall friendly staff.

  6. My first visit left me joyful. Their tempura lunch special is amazing. I did shrimp and was pleased with everything on my plate.

My latest visit I did the mummy roll. It was good, but the wasabi overpowered the mango and shrimp flavors that were perfection together. In the future I would get this again without the wasabi sauce.

This is now my neighborhood sushi spot. They mentioned that the kitchen is being remodeled as they are expanding the menu to include asian fusion. That worries me because I'm a fan of doing one thing right. Everyone does fusion these days but I would be more impressed by just good Japanese.

  7. I really wanted to be a loyal customer of this place as they are one of the few restaurants in the area to order off grubhub. The first few times were fine and the food was good but today I found an insect in my miso soup. That was disgusting and I am not going back.

  8. Surprisingly good and very fresh sushi for the area they are located (Hamilton Heights)..

The restaurant itself is very unassuming and no frills.. but the quality actually exceeds many fancier type (but small name) sushi restaurants on upper manhattan.

The service was overall friendly… The BYOB option is awesome.. The prices and portions are fair… Pretty diverse menu selection…

Always call in advance though.. they are small and fill up easily even on weeknights..

    Definitely a neighborhood gem…
